how to choose a mattressIf you’ve had your mattress for eight to ten years, now’s the time to replace it! More importantly, if you start to notice back pain in the morning or are waking up lethargic, it’s time to change your mattress. If you are in denial that you need to do something, check out these warning signs to help you make that important decision.

How to know it’s time to change your mattress

Are you sinking to the bottom?

Do you feel that every time you get into bed, your body weight is descending towards the base of the mattress? This is a sign that your coil spring has taken a toll. In all seriousness, after five or so years, your body will break down any mattress. Measure the depth of the bounce or the number of lumps on your bed, and then decide if you need to change your mattress.

Are you waking up in the morning with pain?

We all have a tough time waking up because we can often benefit from an extra hour of sleep. But do you feel neck, shoulder, or back pain in the morning? It’s not that your mattress is old, but that it isn’t supportive enough for you. Check with a doctor if you have chronic body pain. Because of my back issues, I had to discuss my next mattress purchase with my chiropractor. Regardless of whether it’s causing you pain, though, over time, any mattress will lose the ability to support your body. Not only that, as you get older, you might benefit from a firmer mattress to prevent future problems.

Is your mattress making you sick?

Your bedroom attracts a lot of dust and allergens, especially during season changes. And eventually, they’ll affect your mattress. In light of this, it’s wise to get a mattress protector. In addition, it’ll help to absorb any accidents or spills.

Does your mattress make you want to sleep anywhere else but home?

Have you been getting a better night’s sleep in a hotel room or at your boyfriend’s/girlfriend’s place? This is definitely a sign that you should get a new mattress. Or even worse, have you noticed your boyfriend or girlfriend not wanting to sleep over? In this case, a new mattress could help your relationship.

Are you ready to change your mattress?

If so, then your sleep will thank you! Take a look at my previous post on three tips for finding the perfect new mattress. It’s important to be knowledgeable about the different styles to see which one would work best for you.

For me, I need a firm mattress unless I would wake up with back pain. I like the Serta Perfect Sleeper Tuscan Sunrise Pocket Coil Pillow Top Plush Mattress. Or you may want something that reduces pressure point tensions by getting a memory foam mattress.

With Best Buy, you have 30 days to return your mattress, so check out the selection available and test it out and make sure that the quality of your sleep is nothing less than amazing. For that, I wish you the best of luck on your journey of finding the mattress of your dreams.
