Epson EcoTank ET-4760 review

Who wouldn’t want to save 90% on printer ink costs? And who wouldn’t be thrilled about being able to go two years without having the hassle of replacing ink? I know lots of families, students, parents of students and home office owners that would jump at this. Ink is the big draw of the Epson EcoTank ET-4760 wireless all-in-one printer. As in it comes with a two-year supply of ink (the equivalent of 80 standard individual inkjet cartridges) and with super-sized refill tanks you won’t ever have to swap out cartridges. Simply insert an ink bottle every few years and be done with it.

The appeal of a supertank printer

The Epson EcoTank ET-4760 is part of an increasingly popular category of printers known as “supertank” printers.

A supertank printer offers all the advantage of inkjet printers, including high-resolution, brilliant colour printing and support for special media like treated photo paper that makes the colours of printed images absolutely pop. But a supertank printer eliminates the two (related) disadvantages of inkjet printers: the frequency of ink cartridge refills required, and the cost of consumables.

Epson EcoTank ET-4760 review

Instead of an ink cartridge that must be replaced every time one of the colours runs out, the Epson EcoTank ET-4760 uses four big ink tanks. Each has a clear window so ink levels can be seen at a glance without needing to open the printer, check the display, or run a supply diagnostic on a computer. You can see exactly how much ink is remaining, so there are no “out of ink” surprises. Epson includes four EcoTank ink bottles in the box (Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow) and you use these to fill up the tanks. Once done that’s it. With an estimated 7,000 pages of black and 6,000 pages of colour printing, you won’t need to worry about refilling for a long time—an estimated two years.

When you do need to fill up a tank, just buy the colour that’s run out—you don’t waste ink or money by having to replace them all at the same time. Speaking of saving money, the EcoTank ET-4760 also supports two-sided printing.

This all-in-one printer does everything

Unless you have a home office, you probably won’t use the fax functionality, but this all-in-one printer is packed with other features. It includes a built-in flatbed scanner, and uses that capability to also act as a photocopier. Load up to 30 pages in the feeder and copy in colour or black and white. The paper tray holds up to 250 pages of letter or legal-size paper and it supports printing on a huge range of paper sizes and types. you can even manually feed paper up to 8.5-inches by 47-inches for printing banners.

Epson EcoTank ET-4760 review

Print quality is excellent. Epson’s MicroPiezo and PrecisionCore technology offers print resolution of up to 4800 x 1200 dpi (dots per inch). Colour pages print at up to 8 ppm (pages per minute) while black can print at up to 15 ppm. In testing, text was black and crisp. I didn’t have any photo paper handy, but I printed several high-resolution photos on letter-sized copy paper. The images came out sharp, colour-accurate and despite the fact that I was using porous paper and printing over a large area, there was no sign of banding. The ink also dried very quickly with minimal rippling of the paper.

Lots of connectivity options and even voice control

Wireless printers are very popular (especially for home and small office use) because there’s no need for cables and they can be placed anywhere there’s room. Once connected to your Wi-Fi network, the Epson EcoTank ET-4760 offers all the advantage of wireless including the ability to easily print from not just a PC, but also your mobile devices. While I did print some documents from a Mac (no installation required, by the way, just pick the new printer from a dropdown), for the most part during testing I printed from my iPhone.

Epson takes the wireless connectivity to the next level with support for voice assistants. With a supported smart speaker or similar device and a little extra setup (including an Epson Connect account), you can tell Alexa, Siri or Google Assistant to print on the Epson printer.

Perfect for students and home office use

If your household prints a few pages here and there then you aren’t really the target demographic for a printer like the Epson EcoTank ET-4760.

  1. I love that there are no more cartridges to deal with and the ink will last two years. I really need this..

  2. We have 4 sons all in University, College, and High School. We go through SO much ink. We need this printer!

  3. I love that it can be used as a printer (1 or 2 sided) for documents & photos for multiple sizes along with the scanner/photocopier feature that I seem to require at the most inconvenient times.

  4. I love everything about this printer!
I love that it has the super tanks that you can refill them yourself. Not having to buy the printer cartridges so it reduces waste. And the ink in the printer last approx 2 years. Wow i never heard that before. I hate printer cartridges that dry up or don’t last very long. Which it gets pretty costly always having to replace. The print quality looks amazing. You would think its a professional printer. I like that you can use wireless assistants like alexa and google which is pretty neat!

  5. This statement.

    Yep, I’m interested.

  8. I love that Epson has finally gotten ahead of the game and created a printer that will not cause excess in landfills!
With the huge ink reservoir, the number of empty cartridges is decreased greatly and since it’s an investment, folks will be more liekly to fix it if something goes wrong rather than just throw it away for a new one!

  9. Love the voice control option to send off a few photos or print off a pile of paperwork and the huge ink reservoir

  10. I love everything about the Epson Ecotank 4760 print. My favourite would be the huge ink reservoir.

  11. The Epson name alone tells you that you’re getting a good product. The print quality, user friendly, and all of the additional features that are all available in one product. The money saved from the ink tank alone is astronomical. When my kids are on the computer, that printer is working non stop, but we are just as bad with flyers and recipes, letters, personal files, etc. We were told that the home refill kits are bad for the printer and we should only buy new ink cartridges whenever we ran out. Thanks Epson, you’re saving us money and creating less plastic waste.

  12. Wow! I am impressed. It would be ideal for my daughter as we need to print and scan homework. Kids first!! It would be so useful.

  13. I need a printer with huge ink tanks. Now my husband is working from home and my two children are studying university classes from home we are going through a tonne of ink and our old printer is so expensive to buy ink for. I would love an epson

  14. Omg!!!! 2 years of ink????? And wireless. LOVE that!

I print a LOT of stuff for my students and tired of constantly buying ink. Waste of money since it’s a combo colour cartridge plus another for black.

    Super handy for me!!!

  15. There’s not a single downside to this printer. I LOVE every feature. From the high resolution to the voice control to the WIFI; there’s not much to fault in this printer. The one feature I especially love is the supertank. No more high priced ink cartridges that i have to replace every 6 months.

  16. I love this printer! I hate constantly changing ink cartridges… they always run out so quickly and at the most inconvenient time!

  17. This printer checks off all the boxes on my wish list. Not having to replace cartridges every couple weeks would be amazing. ( I am working from home and print a LOT) The different ways to connect are fantastic too. and the scanner is a must. My job requires lots of printing and scanning. Love this printer!

  18. Firstly, the large ink reservoir tank solves the nagging problem inkjet printers have had for many years. Brilliant! Second of all, too many printers end up in landfill because cartridges are too expensive to replace. Environmentally responsible choice. And during a time of social distancing, Epson will help me stay home for a very, very long time with this sitting on my desk. Cheers!

  19. Under “normal times” it would be the print quality and huge reservoir BUT with my elementary school age twins now at home doing distance learning, due to self isolation, the ability to scan work easily and upload it to their teacher would be welcomed with open arms. Of course, a second PC would be nice to go with it. Nothing frazzles the nerves of a parent in self-isolation more than fighting over a computer, but that’s a different Best Buy contest.

  20. I love the wireless printing and the very efficient tank style ink with cheaper refills. Very helpful review!

  21. I love the great colours when printed – this would be much better than my super old printer that always prints faded colours!

  22. Epson EcoTank ET-4760 Is like dream printer for me. Always wanted a colour printer to print pictures of different properties to use my real estate business. Huge ink tanks for this would be awesome and wifi feature is great as well. I am already feeling to do better in my business with the help of Epson EcoTank ET-4760.

  23. I would love to win this awesome epson printer. I have an epson wf-2530 bought it at Future shop here in winnipeg and im still using it until now. Its a great all-in-one printer.

  24. I really need a new printer. My son took ours when he went to school. I like to print online coupons and print quite a bit for my son’s school projects. We always seem to run out of ink right in the middle of printing. I love the features on this printer especially the large ink tanks.

  25. Easy refill of the tanks and big ink tanks. I would love this for printing out my digital art to send prints to my friends.

  26. I so need this printer!! My HP bit the dust (after very little printing in 1 1/2 years) and I have been looking for a replacement. I like the huge ink reservoir and print quality most about the Epson Ecotank 4760 printer. My daughter and son-in-law have the Epson Ecotank 4760 and love it. Thank you for the opportunity.

  27. Two years of printing without changing the ink cartridges in my printer would be so awesome. The best thing about this printer is that I can change each individual colour when it runs out and don’t have to buy the whole colour package instead of just the colour that has run out.
