Remote controlled planes and helicopters have been around for many years but they never caused the frenzy that we have seen with drones. They have invaded our psyche and become a part of our culture. This is the year that drones have emerged as a cultural phenomenon. I am currently reading Dickens’ Bleak House, an amazing story that includes many references to 19th century culture. For example, on page 344 Dickens includes in his descriptions of the Smallweed family, a family that is basically born adult, presumably skipping childhood and childish things, numerous childish games and toys that were popular in his day:

“… her twin brother couldn’t wind up a top for his life. He knows no more of Jack the Giant Killer or of Sinbad the Sailor than he knows of the people in the stars. He could as soon play at leap-frog or at cricket as change into a cricket or a frog himself.”

  6. I love the DJI Phantom 4 4K because of the obstacle avoidance sensing system, the 4k video/full HD AND built in Wi-Fi. This bad boy could really help me find the coyotes that are terrorizing my chickens…. 🙂

  9. I think that this is a really cool feature, that the Gesture Selfie feature lets you take a picture with a simple gesture and the obstacle avoidance is neat too! My son who is 12 would love this!

  18. I admire what DJI has done with the Mavic with its ability to let its user be creative.

    My favourite features of the Mavic are its ActiveTrack and Gesture Mode, allowing me to capture amazing moments during my exploration of our world.

    ActiveTrack allows me to capture moments without the need to have someone else fly the Mavic, as I can just have the Mavic track and follow me as climb a trail in the Rockies.

    And Gesture Mode will finally allow me to capture those breath-taking “selfies” I always wished I could.

    The Mavic illustrates innovation and attention from DJI on what consumers really wanted from drones when they first came out!

    Amazing!

    Drone up to 72km is amazing. My son is a high performance kayaker and this way we could follow his whole race without missing any of it once they re out of sight!! This would be the best gift ever!!
