Remote controlled planes and helicopters have been around for many years but they never caused the frenzy that we have seen with drones. They have invaded our psyche and become a part of our culture. This is the year that drones have emerged as a cultural phenomenon. I am currently reading Dickens’ Bleak House, an amazing story that includes many references to 19th century culture. For example, on page 344 Dickens includes in his descriptions of the Smallweed family, a family that is basically born adult, presumably skipping childhood and childish things, numerous childish games and toys that were popular in his day:

“… her twin brother couldn’t wind up a top for his life. He knows no more of Jack the Giant Killer or of Sinbad the Sailor than he knows of the people in the stars. He could as soon play at leap-frog or at cricket as change into a cricket or a frog himself.”

  12. Portability is key, the Mavic is the perfect drone portability without compromising the quality. Ideal for travel
    the Phantoms are great for all purpose with great extended range and has the best features on the market, including collision avoidance !

  15. I like the obstacle avoidance sensing system, considering how challenged I am at controlling things like this, that feature would come in handy!

  26. Mavic drone represents a significant step in portability of drones. Love the fact it is lightweight and folds down to the size of a water bottle.

    Favourite feature(s)- The ability to fold up. As a fisherman that would be great to be able to pack it up with the amount of gear we usually have in our bag/backpack. Easy to fly is another bonus, as a person who has never flown a drone before. That just speaks volumes. So Pick me! I probably would be using the drone to help out my friends with their fishing careers mostly and getting some great shots/videos!

  46. Everything that DJI has designed/made has been great. Have to admit that obstacle avoidance is critical and I like the portability of the DJI Mavic 4K (still would be thrilled to win any of these)!
