Far Cry 6

Join the revolution

The game takes place in a tropical paradise in the heart of the Caribbean called Yara where you join the revolution to liberate Yaran people from the oppressive rule of dictator Antón Castillo and his teenage son Diego. You play as a local Yaran and military dropout Dani Rojas. Furthermore, you will be able to choose to play Dani as a woman or a man.

And, you will join forces with a colourful cast of characters, including Clara Garcia, the leader of revolutionary group Libertad, or Juan Cortez, a jaded ex-KGB spy and guerrilla master as they fight their way to take down the tyrant. In order to be successful, as Dani, you’ll need to embrace the “resolver” spirit. Found across Yara, this is a philosophy of resourcefulness that involves making use of everything and whatever you have to inflict chaos.

Moreover, Far Cry 6 features a broad and unexpected arsenal of customizable weapons and tools. From a motorcycle engine powered minigun to a homing missile throwing backpack, you’ll push the “resolver” spirit to the limit.

The freedom to play the way you want

In true Far Cry fashion, Far Cry 6 allows players the freedom to play the way they want. Whether you prefer a stealthy or forceful approach, you’re free to play how you want in Far Cry 6. In addition to “resolver” options, Far Cry 6 allows you to choose traditional weapons and use new ways to traverse the world such as horses, tanks and DIY vehicles. You’ll also be able to pair up with animal companions like Chorizo, an adorable wiener dog or Guapo, a soldier-hungry pet crocodile.

Far Cry 6 can be played solo or with a friend via two-player co-op. Players will explore a vast and contrasted open world, from lush jungles to decaying cities. Players will operate from hidden guerrilla camps across the country, gathering soldiers and resources while planning their next move.

  1. Being able to choose the way you want to tackle an objective – Check!
Being able to tackle objectives with a co-op partner?! CHECK CHECK!

Haven’t played a Far Cry game in a long while, but I’ll definitely check out this one knowing that I can play it full-on with a friend.

  2. The main hook of these games has always been the very charismatic antagonists that make you hate them for what they are putting you through, but also coerce you into liking them for how charming they come across, despite the fact that they are murderous supervillains. I hope they are able to sprinkle some of that charm on the protagonist as I have found the main character in the past to be serviceable, but nowhere near as interesting as past adversaries like Vaas or Pagan Min. Hopefully Dani changes that.

And, as superficial as this is, I’m excited that this game takes place in a tropical area. I remember playing Far Cry 3 and thinking the ocean and beach areas looked amazing and was sort of disappointed the sequels did not include those visuals.

As formulaic as these games are, I always have good time with them trying to strategize how I am going to take down an outpost – whether it is deciding which weapons to bring, or what vantage point I want to utilize. Based on this article, the fact that they are going to continue to provide stealth-based options means I am very likely to pick up this game at some point; maybe after a few reviews.

  3. This is one of the games I am most looking forward to playing. I have been a fan of the Far Cry games for years. The games are well designed and engaging and, as Jon points out, you have the freedom to play the games the way you want to play them. Some FPS games play as little more than a 3D version of a 2D side-scroller game. Not the Far Cry games. They are fun to play the first time and every time you play thereafter. Far Cry 6 seems to be an improvement on what was already a good thing.

  4. I can’t wait for this game! Haven’t played Far Cry game since 3! But Giancarlo Esposito, Chorizo, and the Macarena have me hyped beyond belief.

  5. Far Cry hasn’t been a series for me, but this new game looks like one that fans of the series will love!

Thanks Jon, I look forward to seeing more of this.
