We expect some amazing announcements this June as we celebrate gaming with Play at Best Buy. Follow us as we cover the biggest announcements and preorders in the gaming industry. You can learn about all the gaming news in our articles and preorder many of the games soon after they are announced (or learn when preorders begin). And like every year in June, Play at Best Buy will include a huge gaming contest!

Innovation and nostalgia make gaming better every year

The gaming world is constantly adapting and building on its previous successes. Each new game is an iteration on the programming, animation, videography, and sound design that came before to bring an immersive blend of storytelling, interactive entertainment, and competition. This year we have already seen amazing games, including Star Wars: Jedi Survivor by Respawn and EA games. And Nintendo just released the highly anticipated: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Fans have been waiting for years to play this game and many are already calling it the game of the year.

Both of those titles bring a healthy dose of nostalgia with new game play features that stretch the limits of technology. We expect to see more of this trend in many of the gaming announcements over the rest of this year, especially from now to the end of June. Be on the lookout for several more reboots and sequels. Additionally, watch for potential future franchise games in the many indy titles vying for our attention.

How to enter

Entering this contest will be fun and you can enter in three different ways:

  1. In a comment below: tell us the name of a game you played in the past that you think should be redone soon. A valid entry must include all three of these parts: 1. what console you played it on; 2. what changes you suggest would make a new version exciting; and 3. on which console would you like to try this new version of the game.
  2. Social post: For two additional entries, create a public post on a social media channel sharing with your friends and followers that you are entering the Play at Best Buy blog contest. Let your friends know which prize package you are hoping to win and what new game you will play first if you do win; include the hashtag #PlayatBestBuyContest, so we can find your post, and include a picture from this contest page. Then return here and tell us in a comment below on which channel you posted it and the name of your channel (since many people use pseudonyms) so that we can check and verify your entry. You can use any social media channel (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.), but the post must be public so we can verify it is there.
  3. Email a photo: If you visit any Best Buy store, take a picture with your smartphone of the gaming section in a store showing several of the games available that you love to play. Then in an email to bestbuyblog@bestbuycanada.ca with the subject line “Play at Best Buy Contest” tell us the location of the store (city, street) and attach the picture.

What you can win

At the end of the contest, we will randomly select six (6) winners from all eligible entries. These winners will be randomly assigned to the six prize packages shown above so each winner will get one of those six prize packages.

This contest runs from May 31st to June 30th.

Remember you can enter up to four times as mentioned above. Perhaps you’ve been trying to win a prize in a Best Buy Canada contest for many years and just have not been lucky. Hedge your bet by telling all of your friends and family that you really need their support for this amazing contest. They’ll likely be happy to enter this contest too. If they win, I’m sure they’ll share the prize with you.

  1. Mike Tyson’s punch out . Played on original Nintendo. Would love to play with new gen graphics and it would be ideal for ps5

  2. I played Crashtest Dummies on the N64 and I miss it so much! I would love to see it on any gaming system, but I think it would be best on the Nintendo Switch or Playstation.

  3. I would love to win any of the prizes! my sons birthday is coming up and would be a perfect birthday present for him!!!!

  4. Dating myself, but I would love to see a modern version of Sierra Space Quest on PS5. I played it not on a console but an old IBM. To make it work on console the puzzles would need to work with point and click instead of typing in what to do.

  5. The Simpsons Hit and Run. It is a beloved game that has a following wanting it to be remade. Played it on PS2 and PC. A new version with updated graphics and new missions and updated engine to take advantage of advances in gaming since 20 years ago. Would like to see it on Xbox Series X

  6. I’ve played halo 3 on the xbox 360, the newer version would be great if there’s forge and also the old maps too, would try it on xbox series x

  7. I am a relatively unsophisticated gamer, and enjoyed using the Nintendo Wii to do the dance and exercises. So any new or updated games would be amazing. Thank you for the chance to win.

  8. played on PS3 for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. should be upgraded with better graphics for ps5.

  9. cool to see Harvest Moon: Magical Melody remade. i played it originally on gamecube. would be awesome to see it on the switch.

  10. i played it on nintendo 64 before. would like to see diddy kong with better quality picstures on nintendo switch

  11. Played Bloodborne on the PS4 and giving it state of the art graphics and making it 60 FPS would make an exciting version for the PS5

  12. My top wanted remake of all time is Chronotrigger that I originally played on the Super Nintendo. Ideally I would love it to get a Dragon’s Quest 11 type graphical upgrade and also updates to the battle system. I would want this to come out on PS5.

  13. I would like to have changes made to the game dr Mario . I played it on on Nintendo growing up. I would love to have the game just updated with the graphics that are available now. I would like to play it on switch my kids.

I don’t know much about newer games but my kids would be ecstatic with any of these prize packs!

  14. I would love to see a remake of Harvest Moon: Magical Melody, which was released for the Gamecube. I think the current remakes of Harvest Moon games (now known as Story of Seasons) have been yielding a lot of new and improved content, but personally I think I’d really like a more customizable experience in regard to your avatar and rebuilding the town as a whole. I would like to play it on the Nintendo Switch.

  15. The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess is a game I’d love to see remade.
    1. I played it on the Nintendo Wii
    2. Changes that would make it more exciting would be adding some of the mechanics they developed with Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom and enhance the graphical fidelity while still keeping the darker tones of the game, which really gave it its unique charm.
3.I’d love to play it on the Nintendo Switch OLED.

  16. I played Vagrant Story on Playstation I. I would simplify the rules and add new updated characters for Playstation 5.

  17. A game I’d love to see remade is The Legend of the Dragoon from the original Playstation. And it would be cool for it to play like the Final Fantasy 7 remake. That would modernize quite well I think.

  18. I played Final Fantasy VII on the original Playstation when it came out in 1997. I would love to see it on Playstation 5 with updated graphics and new characters to reflect the changing times. It would be great to play with others instead of the original solo game.

  19. I would love to see a remake of Final Fantasy VIII, used to play it all the time on my PS one. I wouldn’t change any of the gameplay just update the graphics on it.

  20. It would be pretty cool to see a Timesplitters 2 remake. I originally played it on the Nintendo GameCube and had a ton of fun with the split-screen multiplayer despite it being hard to see anything on the tiny TVs at the time. HD graphics and a higher resolution would be awesome. I’d try it on any console but since I only have an Xbox One at the moment, it’d be cool to see it on Xbox.

  21. I would like to see remake of Donkey Kong 64 I played it on the Nintendo 64 and would love to see it come back on Nintendo Switch to take it anywhere with better graphics and controls. GLA

  22. i would like to see the simpsons arcade game be redone, used to play it at the arcades, it would have better graphics, new characters to use and more levels

  23. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (played on ps3) should be remade with updated graphics and more complex light saber combat. I’d like to play it on ps4 or ps5.

  24. 1. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell on the original XBox
    2. Updated graphics and the use of VR for the espionage elements
    3. The new version should be for the Xbox Series X

  25. Banjo Kazooie! We absolutely loved this game on Nintendo 64 and would love to see a new version for the Nintendo Switch. Longer game play would make a new version even better, and the ability to save your progress on collectibles in each world if travelling between them.

  26. I would love to see Legend of Dragoon be remade. It’s one of the best RPGs ever made and has such a great story.

  27. Bloodborne for PS4 should be given a re-release. I played it on PS4 because it’s exclusive to that console. What I change is allowing a higher framerate and high resolution textures. I want to see a PC port of it or PS5.

  28. A game I have played in the past that should be re-done should be Fallout 4. I played this game first on the PlayStation 4; however, I have recently been playing it on the PC. I think maybe including the ability to travel the wastelands with two companions rather than one would really change some of the enemies encounters you come across. Maybe also creating extra content that includes more detailed, playable background stories for your companions would be just as exciting. I think this new version of Fallout 4 would be INSANE on some sort of VR console. Roaming the wastelands is already terrifying to me- being immersed in it in VR would be even crazier.

  29. I’d love a remake of earthbound on the switch in the style of the links awakening remake. I first played in on SNES.

  30. I would absolutely love to see a remake the Final Fantasy VIII! I was so excited when they had redone FF VII and it turned out to be absolutely amazing. I played it on my dad’s original Playstation Console. Simply an overhaul similar to what they did to FF VII would be amazing. Oh and the music. I cannot even express how EPIC the soundtrack is for the game so a complete update to the soundtrack would be so cool. I would love to see this come out on Playstation, PC and maybe even Nintendo Switch since they never added FF VII to it.

  31. Red Dead Redemption on the PlayStation. I’d like to see it redone with extra content and more missions for the PC.

  32. I would love a remake of battleblock theater, originally played it on xbox 360. The new version could have extra levels and new weapons/tools. It could also have more people allowed in multiplayer. I would love it if the new version came out for the Xbox Series X or Nintendo Switch

  33. I would love a remake of Diddy Kong Racing I originally played it on the Nintendo 64 and would love to see it come back on Nintendo Switch with updated graphics and controls.
