gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 packed a lot into its show from Cologne. Ubisoft revealed a new Rainbow Six game, Gears of War: E-Day and Final Fantasy VII Revelation returned with brand new trailers, and Mega Man: Dual Override and Metro 2039 also had new footage. CD PROJEKT RED then closed things out with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered and the first look at Songs of the Past, giving gamers plenty to be excited about by the time the show wrapped up.

Read on for the biggest announcements, trailers, and release-date updates from gamescom Opening Night Live 2026, along with the games that stood out to me most.

Rainbow Six Tactics takes the series turn-based

Rainbow Six Tactics was one of Ubisoft’s new reveals at gamescom Opening Night Live 2026. The single-player game takes the series in a turn-based tactical direction. You take command as Six and build squads for missions around the world.

The game includes 15 Operators with their own abilities, gadgets, and skill trees. Missions range from bomb disposal and hostage rescues to target elimination across more than 45 locations. Planning also extends beyond combat as you decide which Operators to deploy and how their abilities work together.

Gears of War: E-Day gets a new story trailer

Release date: October 6, 2026

Gears of War: E-Day’s new story trailer focused on the opening hours of Emergence Day. Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago are caught in the first Locust invasion. Humanity is still trying to understand what is happening in Kalona.

The campaign takes place 14 years before the original Gears of War and follows the beginning of Marcus and Dom’s partnership. The game also includes Horde Siege and Versus multiplayer. It supports XBOX Play Anywhere and will be available day one with Game Pass.

Silent Hill: Townfall introduces its English cast

Silent Hill: Townfall brought a new trailer to gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 and revealed its main English cast. Jovan Adepo voices protagonist Simon Ordell, with Terry O’Quinn as Richard and Kezia Burrows as Zoe.

The first-person psychological horror game follows Simon as he returns to the fog-covered island of St. Amelia. Exploration, combat, evasion, narrative puzzles, and the CRTV pocket television all play a role in uncovering what happened there.

Mega Man: Dual Override debuts gameplay

Release date: 2027

Capcom showed Mega Man: Dual Override in detail for the first time at gamescom Opening Night Live 2026. The twelfth mainline Mega Man game is planned for 2027.

Proto Man returns as a playable character alongside Mega Man, giving the two heroes different abilities and play styles. The new Override system can temporarily boost a robot’s power but leaves it weakened once the effect ends. Capcom also showed the Custom Chip system and new Robot Masters.

Rayman Legends Retold shows off a new musical stage

Rayman Legends Retold’s gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 trailer put the spotlight on its musical stages. The footage showed a new stage set to Macarena, with obstacles and movement timed around the music.

Rayman Legends Retold brings the Glade of Dreams into 3D with a new story and voiced cinematics. It also adds dragon rides and up to four-player couch co-op. The Launch Edition includes Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition.

EXODUS locks in an April 2027 release date

Release date: April 7, 2027

EXODUS now has an April 7, 2027 release date. Its gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 trailer also gave us more of Salt. The Awakened octopus joins Jun Aslan in the fight.

The game follows Jun across the Centauri Cluster as a Traveler searching for technology that could help save humanity. Time dilation is central to that journey, with long trips potentially meaning years pass for the people left behind.

The Blood of Dawnwalker, Control Resonant, Metro 2039, and more

Control Resonant debuted its new Altered State trailer. It showed more of Dylan Faden’s movement, combat, executions, and encounters across Manhattan. Control Resonant launches September 24, 2026 on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC.

Crazy Taxi: World Tour gave us the first look at multiplayer, showing several cabbies in the city at the same time. The game launches in 2027 on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

Metro 2039’s new Renegade gameplay trailer followed the Stranger as he infiltrated Moscow. It also showed how his tools can open new routes and expose threats. Metro 2039 launches in February 2027 on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC.

Stage Tour confirmed a December 10, 2026 release date during gamescom Opening Night Live 2026. RedOctane Games also revealed more than 90 songs for launch and new guitar controllers. The game is coming to PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

The Blood of Dawnwalker used gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 for its launch trailer ahead of its September 3, 2026 release. The trailer returned to Coen’s human and vampire sides and showed more of how his choices affect the story. The Blood of Dawnwalker is coming to PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC.

Turok: Origins debuted a new story trailer at gamescom Opening Night Live 2026. It launches in spring 2027 on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

Paradox also revealed LEGO Skylines during the show. The new city-builder combines LEGO construction with city management. It’s coming to PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation brings the Weapons into the fight

Release date: spring 2027

Final Fantasy VII Revelation returned at gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 with a new gameplay trailer focused on the Weapons. These enormous guardians of the Planet take centre stage in several battles. Cloud and his allies face them across deserts, in the air, and beneath the sea.

Square Enix also showed the new Summon Typhon and the FITS system. Different outfits grant abilities inspired by classic Final Fantasy jobs. Revelation is the third and final game in the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy and launches in spring 2027.

The Witcher 3 returns with a remaster and new expansion

Release date: September 29, 2026

CD PROJEKT RED closed gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered and the first look at Songs of the Past. Remastered launches September 29 with visual and performance upgrades, plus changes to combat, movement, monster behaviour, and more. Existing owners on qualifying platforms receive the upgrade at no additional cost.

The remaster is coming to PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Nintendo Switch 2 gets a native version.

Current owners of The Witcher 3 also get Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine for free. These are the game’s two existing story expansions.

Songs of the Past is a new paid expansion arriving in 2027. Geralt travels to Letten, a new region built around rural traditions and folklore hiding something much darker. The expansion adds new enemies, abilities, and a chain weapon.

gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 gave me plenty to look forward to

By the end of gamescom Opening Night Live 2026, my list of games I want to play had grown quite a bit. Gears of War: E-Day, Silent Hill: Townfall, Rayman Legends Retold, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered are all arriving soon, and I’m excited to get my hands on them. The next few months are going to be busy for gaming, and this show made me even more excited for what’s coming.

And that’s before getting to 2027. Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Mega Man: Dual Override, and EXODUS all gave me even more to be excited about, and each one has me curious to see how it comes together. There was a lot packed into gamescom Opening Night Live 2026, and I came away from it wanting to play quite a few more games. Which ones are you most looking forward to?
