Video gaming keeps growing. The major consoles have been out for a while now and game developers continue to bring out more action, stunning details, and incredible gameplay in the newest games this year. We expect some amazing announcements this June as we celebrate gaming with Play at Best Buy. Follow us as we cover the biggest announcements and preorders in the gaming industry. You can learn about all the gaming news in our articles and preorder many of the games soon after they are announced (or learn when preorders begin). And like every year in June, Play at Best Buy will include a huge gaming contest!

Innovation and nostalgia make gaming better every year

The gaming world is constantly adapting and building on its previous successes. Each new game is an iteration on the programming, animation, videography, and sound design that came before to bring an immersive blend of storytelling, interactive entertainment, and competition. This year we have already seen amazing games, including Star Wars: Jedi Survivor by Respawn and EA games. And Nintendo just released the highly anticipated: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Fans have been waiting for years to play this game and many are already calling it the game of the year.

Both of those titles bring a healthy dose of nostalgia with new game play features that stretch the limits of technology. We expect to see more of this trend in many of the gaming announcements over the rest of this year, especially from now to the end of June. Be on the lookout for several more reboots and sequels. Additionally, watch for potential future franchise games in the many indy titles vying for our attention.

Prizes are huge part of Play at Best Buy

The announcements started early this year with the PlayStation Showcase on May 24th. The buzz of gaming month is driven in a large part by gaming announcements, but also by the great deals that Best Buy will feature all month long. It’s just a great month to be a gamer! To top it off, Best Buy has the best gaming contest anywhere in Canada! Look at these amazing prize packages.

How to enter

Entering this contest will be fun and you can enter in three different ways:

  1. In a comment below: tell us the name of a game you played in the past that you think should be redone soon. A valid entry must include all three of these parts: 1. what console you played it on; 2. what changes you suggest would make a new version exciting; and 3. on which console would you like to try this new version of the game.
  2. Social post: For two additional entries, create a public post on a social media channel sharing with your friends and followers that you are entering the Play at Best Buy blog contest. Let your friends know which prize package you are hoping to win and what new game you will play first if you do win; include the hashtag #PlayatBestBuyContest, so we can find your post, and include a picture from this contest page. Then return here and tell us in a comment below on which channel you posted it and the name of your channel (since many people use pseudonyms) so that we can check and verify your entry. You can use any social media channel (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.), but the post must be public so we can verify it is there.
  3. Email a photo: If you visit any Best Buy store, take a picture with your smartphone of the gaming section in a store showing several of the games available that you love to play. Then in an email to bestbuyblog@bestbuycanada.ca with the subject line “Play at Best Buy Contest” tell us the location of the store (city, street) and attach the picture.

What you can win

At the end of the contest, we will randomly select six (6) winners from all eligible entries. These winners will be randomly assigned to the six prize packages shown above so each winner will get one of those six prize packages.

This contest runs from May 31st to June 30th.

Remember you can enter up to four times as mentioned above. Perhaps you’ve been trying to win a prize in a Best Buy Canada contest for many years and just have not been lucky. Hedge your bet by telling all of your friends and family that you really need their support for this amazing contest. They’ll likely be happy to enter this contest too. If they win, I’m sure they’ll share the prize with you.

  1. I would like to see Donkey Kong (N64 ) remade with better graphics on the Nintendo Switch

  2. A redone Duke Nukem 3̶D̶ VR for the PlayStation. It was good on the PS1 and will be amazing again with updated everything.

  3. One game that I believe should be redone soon is “Bioshock,” which I played on the Xbox 360. I would like to try this new version of the game on xbox series s.

  4. I played L.A. Noire on the pc and it definitely deserves a sequel, with a new story and upgraded graphics, this would be great on the pc.

  5. I believe Bloodborne (that I played on ps4) deserves a sequel with new next gen graphics. I’d love to play it on pc or ps5.

  6. 1. A game in the past that should be redone soon is: Golden Sun. I first played it on the Game Boy Advance (GBA), oh no am I showing my age? It was phenomenal! The puzzles were actually hard, for me at the time, haha.

    2. To make the new edition exciting besides updated graphics would be to add more animated battle scenes to make the battles more epic 😀

    3. I would like to see this on the Nintendo Switch.

I also posted about this on my Twitter account @GamerPancakez. It’s the pinned tweet!

    Thanks for the giveaway 🙂

  7. If we’re never going to get Half Life 3 then the Half Life series should be redone with updated graphics. I played it on PC, but I’d play an updated version on the latest Xbox.

  8. I would like to see NBA Street redone soon! I played it on PS3. I would like it to have upgraded graphics with current and past players. I would love to play it on the PS5!

  9. I would like to see Donkey Kong (Nintendo 64 ) remade with better graphics on the Nintendo Switch.

  10. Zombies ate my neighbor for Super Nintendo.

I would keep the same idea but update the graphics. It would be absolutely incredible on every level. That game wad amazing years ago but updated would be a whole new experience.

I would love to see it on the snes.

  11. Donkey Kong on Nintendo 64. Change = expand map design to create open world situation, I would choose Nintendo switch

  12. I used to love Tetrisphere on Nintendo 64. It gave me a headache and went fast, so I think it could be redone as a slower, mindful game for Nintendo Switch.

  13. Spyro the Dragon for playstation, I suggest a multi player version, It was nice that the newer version had better graphics. what changes you suggest would make a new version exciting; and 3. on which console would you like to try this new version of the game.

  14. A game I’d like to see redone from the past is Tonka Construction (1996) or Tonka Search & Rescue (1997). In my ideal world both these computer games would be remade, or at least available in it’s original form somewhere, but I remember as a kid these were two of I’d say half a dozen other games on the computer that was my introduction to PC gaming, and gaming in general.

    1) Console: PC
    2) The easiest change would be updated graphics. Computer game graphics have come a long way in 27 years. And some new missions (main and side) that can be added.
    3) If it was originally on PC, then on PC again, because it would be ideally optimized. But, any platform that supports gaming would play a Tonka game, because the inputs and tasks itself would be easy enough for developers to code to use either on a mouse/keyboard, game controller, or even I’d say a touch screen.

  15. Would love to see Donkey Kong (Nintendo 64 ) remake with better graphics and sound on the Nintendo Switch.

  16. 1. My thoughts take me to Donkey Kong on my first console I owned, Colecovision. 2. To make a new version today, I would add several more levels with different platforms other than just steel girders, more dynamic scrolling environments (how about buildings, mountains) that move horizontally and vertically, and stunning backgrounds like winter, summer, fall. Add elements like rain, fog, smoke, etc. Add additional moving obstacles and enemies. Add more weapons or tools to defeat enemies and obstacles, things that shoot projectiles. Have Donkey Kong move more around the screen. 3. Would like to see the new game on the Nintendo Switch OLED model naturally.

  17. I use to play Donkey Kong 64 on the Nintendo 64 console. Some changes I would make to the game now would be to take what they have already with their map design and expand it to create an open world situation. I would choose the Nintendo Switch to try it on.

  18. The game I played years ago was Star Wars Battlefront on PS2. I think better graphics would make it even more exciting. I would love to play a new version of this game it on PS5 or PS6.

  19. Oh me and my sister played Legend of Zelda for hours, I have played in years it would be nice to update the older people

  20. I played Snowboard Kids 2 on the Nintendo 64. Some changes I would make would be more maps and different powerup items to use when racing. I would choose the Nintendo Switch to play this game on.

  21. Would love to see a remake of Pokemon Black and White! I played it on the Nintendo DS and would think it would be really exciting to see the open world as seen in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet applied to the Unova region. Obviously would want to play this on the Nintendo Switch, especially if I won a new OLED model! 🙂

  22. an old favourite game of mine is red dead redemption; i recently replayed it on xbox series x and while i think it still holds up great, i know it could look and feel even better with a remake for current gen consoles! it’d be cool if a remake kept features that didn’t make it into RDR2 like fame, unlimited bounties, and bank robbing, but also added new mechanics like crafting, fishing, and more in depth horse care. i’d love to try it on PS5!

  23. 1. Giant citizens kabuto
    2. I would like to see overall improvements in graphic and perhaps make the multiplayer option available
    3. This would be great on the PlayStation platform

  24. I loved to play Duke Nukem on my 486 computer back in the day. I would love it brought back on PS5 with updated graphics and more versions of it.

  25. 1080 Snowboarding for Nintendo 64 should be just rereleased for switch, maybe make it high def widescreen but keep the low frames per second.

  26. I would love to redo Duck Hunt from original Nintendo and play on Playstation 2. I think it would improve with better graphics, different scenes, and bonus rounds

  27. I once played Burnout Paradise Remastered on my Ps4 pro. It was pretty fun and all but..

    • The decor was slightly off and generally encountered weird glitches and bugs.
    • The quest were not as entertaining than many other race games I played. They were usually redundant and not really unique.
    • The “garage” wasn’t user friendly at all, I thought it was pretty complicated to switch cars from their small amount available. I don’t know it this is just me, but I still believe that it was a relevant issue.

So, after these complains, I still think that this game was great and amusing. With a new version that would remove these problems, it could be extremely enjoyable and fun. Finally, i’d really like to test it with a proper racer wheel and pedal! (Accessories pack) Hoping I win!

  28. I would love to see the original Sly Cooper redone from the PlayStation 2. Bringing the health system from the future games over I think would be a nice touch and the sneak/pick-pocket button could be assigned to R2 to take advantage of adaptive triggers. Different levels of button pressure to increase the tension of the situation. With that being said, I would then like to try the new version of PlayStation 5 to get that effect.

  29. I think they should redo dr Mario from original Nintendo , improve the music, more variety. Is like to see it on a Nintendo switch This is a fun contest

  30. I think they should redo dr Mario from original Nintendo , improve the music, more variety. Is like to see it on a Nintendo switch console

  31. I think they should redo dr Mario from original Nintendo , improve the music, more variety. Is like to see it on a Nintendo switch

  32. Blades of steel, played on Nintendo. Would love to see it with new gen graphics. On ps5
