Video gaming keeps growing. The major consoles have been out for a while now and game developers continue to bring out more action, stunning details, and incredible gameplay in the newest games this year. We expect some amazing announcements this June as we celebrate gaming with Play at Best Buy. Follow us as we cover the biggest announcements and preorders in the gaming industry. You can learn about all the gaming news in our articles and preorder many of the games soon after they are announced (or learn when preorders begin). And like every year in June, Play at Best Buy will include a huge gaming contest!
Innovation and nostalgia make gaming better every year
The gaming world is constantly adapting and building on its previous successes. Each new game is an iteration on the programming, animation, videography, and sound design that came before to bring an immersive blend of storytelling, interactive entertainment, and competition. This year we have already seen amazing games, including Star Wars: Jedi Survivor by Respawn and EA games. And Nintendo just released the highly anticipated: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Fans have been waiting for years to play this game and many are already calling it the game of the year.
Both of those titles bring a healthy dose of nostalgia with new game play features that stretch the limits of technology. We expect to see more of this trend in many of the gaming announcements over the rest of this year, especially from now to the end of June. Be on the lookout for several more reboots and sequels. Additionally, watch for potential future franchise games in the many indy titles vying for our attention.
Prizes are huge part of Play at Best Buy
The announcements started early this year with the PlayStation Showcase on May 24th. The buzz of gaming month is driven in a large part by gaming announcements, but also by the great deals that Best Buy will feature all month long. It’s just a great month to be a gamer! To top it off, Best Buy has the best gaming contest anywhere in Canada! Look at these amazing prize packages.

How to enter
Entering this contest will be fun and you can enter in three different ways:
- In a comment below: tell us the name of a game you played in the past that you think should be redone soon. A valid entry must include all three of these parts: 1. what console you played it on; 2. what changes you suggest would make a new version exciting; and 3. on which console would you like to try this new version of the game.
- Social post: For two additional entries, create a public post on a social media channel sharing with your friends and followers that you are entering the Play at Best Buy blog contest. Let your friends know which prize package you are hoping to win and what new game you will play first if you do win; include the hashtag #PlayatBestBuyContest, so we can find your post, and include a picture from this contest page. Then return here and tell us in a comment below on which channel you posted it and the name of your channel (since many people use pseudonyms) so that we can check and verify your entry. You can use any social media channel (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.), but the post must be public so we can verify it is there.
- Email a photo: If you visit any Best Buy store, take a picture with your smartphone of the gaming section in a store showing several of the games available that you love to play. Then in an email to bestbuyblog@bestbuycanada.ca with the subject line “Play at Best Buy Contest” tell us the location of the store (city, street) and attach the picture.
What you can win
At the end of the contest, we will randomly select six (6) winners from all eligible entries. These winners will be randomly assigned to the six prize packages shown above so each winner will get one of those six prize packages.
This contest runs from May 31st to June 30th.
Remember you can enter up to four times as mentioned above. Perhaps you’ve been trying to win a prize in a Best Buy Canada contest for many years and just have not been lucky. Hedge your bet by telling all of your friends and family that you really need their support for this amazing contest. They’ll likely be happy to enter this contest too. If they win, I’m sure they’ll share the prize with you.
Win a Play at Best Buy gaming prize
Good luck.
Splinter Cell(s) because I played the first three games on PC and I wish they remade them for console and spiffy up the graphics, put the dark and light mechanics from conviction where the screen went monochrome when you were in shadow and the tag and shoot mechanics! I would 1000% try it on my Series X – also bring a spies versus mercs mode 😀
I feel like the Mario RPG should make a come back from the N64 days. It will be great if it will get a proper remake or a sequel on the Switch.
They should redo the uncharted 1-3 games.
I last played it on the PS4.
They should do something similar to the Last of Us Part 1 Remake with improved graphics and enemy AI which would make it feel like playing the game for the first time.
I’d play it on the PS5 of course to take full advantage of the changes.
Game: Fallout New Vegas
Originally Played On: PS3 and Xbox 360
Why it should happen/what should change: New Vegas is a superb game that was held back only by an expedited development schedule. I’d love to see the game expanded upon and features like console mods to happen.
Platform: Xbox Series X. Xbox owns both Obsidian and Bethesda now, and this would be the type of exclusive that would turn heads.
To me, one of my all time favourite games has to be Thrillville Off the Rails. I had played it on My Nintendo Wii way back in the day and wish they created a similar experience for the newer consoles. Something about just sitting back, managing and building theme parks and getting to ride them willl never get old. The only thing I would improve on to be honest would be the graphics as even back then, they were pretty dated.
Blinx The Time Sweeper
1. The original Xbox
2. Update the graphics and some gameplay elements to bring it to modern gaming standards as it has been around 20 years since its original release date
3. A PC port would make this a MUST buy for me. Its the first console game I every played as a kid, so making it accessible on PC would be amazing
Resident Evil: Code Veronica that has the RE4 Remake style controls and engine as that worked very well and Loved it even more on current gen systems. I’d play the remake on PS5.
Chrono Trigger on the SNES
Remake it like how they treated FFVII. I’m pretty sure it would be just as popular today. Would be great to see a modern take on cross attacks or even a detailed look of Frog & Magus. Would be a no brainer to put this on PS5.
I would love to see a remake of one the first Star Wars games I used to play on Nintendo 64, Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire. This game was fantastic and revolutionary back when it launched as part of a whole multimedia campaign Lucasfilm was doing back in the 90’s. The game is very rough to go back to, so I would love to see a complete remake of the game with new and improved third person shooting mechanics, updated graphics, a cover system, etc. It would basically be similar to Uncharted games in mechanics and scope, but it would be the story and characters of Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire. I would love to see it launch on current generation hardware (like PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X) to really ramp up the graphical fidelity, and maybe release the original one on Nintendo Switch as part of the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pass so everyone can take part in the conversation to some capacity.
Skyrim on x360 was fantastic.
I hope they remake it soon with even more cabbages.
I’d play it on Xbox Series S!
Brave fencer Musashi for ps1. Would love to see a remake on ps5 with modern graphics. Been hoping they would bring it to ps plus but a remake would be so much better.
I played mario kart on wii. I would improve by making graphics funnier. I would like to play in VR on xbox.
Final Fantasy IX would make for an awesome remake! I would change the pre-rendered backgrounds to be entirely 3D and update the battle system to modern tastes. And of course I’d play it on PS5!
Maaan. Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal redone like Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee would be a day one purchase! it would be on the Switch for sure!
1.I played on a xbox series x NBA 2k23 and incorporating a more realistically played out off season in my career like workouts and going to the olympics and such. i would play this game on the PC given i had the right requirements
God Hand (PS2), it always made me sad it was such a flop, because it was such a weird, clever game.
Controls could be changed to be less complicated, although I feel like that scheme was half the point of it. Take out a bit of the poorly aged jokes, update the graphics with the RE Engine (if Capcom retains the right, since it was a Clover game) and it would have a second chance on life.
Based on current systems (and being PS exclusive), PS5 makes sense to be the platform on it, but I’d love a portable version on Switch.
I remember having a blast with Star Tropics on the NES. I’d love to play an updated version of the game in the Link’s Awakening art style on the Nintendo Switch.
I used to play Super Mario RPG on Super Nintendo all the time when I was younger and I think it should be remake with better graphics, new characters and a new story. The game as a whole was awesome and newer version on the Switch would be hype.
I had to make choices and skipped the Gamecube and WiiU and thus missed on the stunning Legend of Zelda Wind Waker.
Hopefully we get a Switch version so I can finally experience it.
1. A childhood and current day fave, Final Fantasy 8 on PSX could use a remake and introduce the younger audience to this masterpiece.
2. Give it the FF7R treatment, with a more modernized combat system, graphics that could be done on current hardware, change the magic system to a MP system but keep the junction system the same. Just got to tweak it a bit as magic won’t be based off the stock system maxing out on 100.
3. A remake of Final Fantasy 8 for current gen consoles and PC would be amazing to see.
I would want SSX Tricky redone. I played it on PS2 and I’d love to play it again on a PS4 or PS5. I wouldn’t want anything changed with the gameplay. Just bring up the graphics to meet modern specs.
Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness / Pokemon Colosseum
1. Nintendo Gamecube
2. It would be fantastic to see a remaster or sequel to either of the Gamecube’s Pokemon games. Adding in online multiplayer battles, perhaps some raid battle systems similar to what is in the current Pokemon Switch titles, and of course, online trading.
3. Naturally, this game would work fittingly with the Nintendo Switch!
Maybe one day! 🙂
For me it would 100% have to be Jade Empire for Original Xbox. I would have modern visual fidelity as well as modern controls. It would be stunning to be remastered for the Series X. Such a classic game that future generations should get to enjoy.
Need for Speed Underground 2 was my favourite racing game to play on the Nintendo GameCube. I would like to see a remaster with more customization, and updated 4K visuals on Xbox Series X.
Shining Force
1. Played it on the Sega Genesis.
2. With all the advancements with games like Fire Emblem, Triangle Strategy, etc. it would be a great time to remake. They could add more “reaction” moves between turns.
3. All consoles would be ideal but Switch would introduce portability which is a nice to have with a longer strategy game.
If RE series are getting remakes then def I would like a Dino Crisis remakes as well
1. Originally played it on my friend’s older brother at that time on the PS
2. I would the environmental maps to be creepier or scarier & a bit bigger with the new RE Engine which I dont have to even explain if you played with RE4 remake or other new RE remakes. Keep the OG Dinosaur while adding new dinosaurs with new abilities as well as a surprise, A mechanic that makes you feel like (Raptors or Unknown Dinos) are watching your back would kinda make it realistic & to constantly check your surroundings for sign of an ambush, explaining the story a bit better TBH, Better customization system, New guns or melee weapons while keeping some of the OG Guns as well. I would like to add more but thats it for now lol
3. Def on the PS5 or PC at this point
I played countless hours of all series of Suikoden on PS1 and PS2. I’d love to see remakes with HD graphics of them on PS5 and switch.
Twisted Metal on Playstation
A graphical overhaul with online play. Make is a cross between Rocket League and Call of Duty. A cross platform game would be best with consoles and PCs battling it out.
What an amazing question and have so many answers, but my number 1 pick would be red dead redemption one. I played it on my xbox 360 and I thought it was amazing at the time, but RDR2 was so amazing I’d love rockstar to remaster for the series X, give it the 4k treatment and maybe is 60 fps :O
Ape Escape 3
1. PlayStation 2
2. The game mainly just needs a visual remake in the spirit of the Crash Nsane trilogy or Spyro reignited. Maybe tune the jump to feel a little better
3. Playstation 5
Interstate ’76 is a game I played in the past that I think should be redone soon.
I played it on my PC.
I would update the graphics and improve cut scene voice acting to make the new version exciting.
I would like to try this new version on a PS5.
Halo 3 – played originally on Xbox 360… just update the graphics and maybe some small quality of life changes.
Scaler on the Gamecube. I remember watching a tv gaming show on Musique Plus and seeing Scaler for the first time. I knew it was a must. If it would be remade, I’ll like to see more areas and more transformations for Scaler. The place to play would be on the PS5!
I played Resistance 1, 2 and 3 on the Playstation 3 and would love to see a remake, reboot, or at LEAST remaster for PS5. Bonus points for Playstation VR2 support, since Resistance 3 already supported the Playstation Move for motion-controlled shooting.
Lord of the rings the two towers game was so ahead of its time… Multiplayer, with spells and classes… So cool!! Everyone wanted to play Gandalf
1. Played on the original Xbox…
2. Would be cool to make it open world and fully rpg with skill trees and such!
3. PS5… Xbox series x… PC, I’m not picky 😀
It might be a pipe dream but a remake of Super Mario World would be amazing. I played a tonne of it on the SNES. I’d like to see it expanded into a 3D world but with an overview map to keep that link to the old game. Obviously it would be SWITCH only!
I grew up playing a TON of games in the 90’s. One that I’m still hoping to see revived would Commander Keen! Action platformers are a favorite of mine, and seeing a proper remake/remaster with some added cutscenes/new gameplay mechanics (cant forget the Pong game in the menu either) would be fantastic. I’d be there day 1 on my Xbox Series X. And as a fellow Zamboni driver during the winter season, this would be the perfect fit for my gaming area.
An updated version of the LOTR Battle for Middle Earth series would be absolutely amazing. I remember always playing these games (especially the 2nd one) on my pc back in the day. Wouldn’t take much for me to get back into these games, just modernize the tech and graphics and add on extra content and we good. Would play a remake of this on pc just like the original.
Loved Shining Force 2 on the Sega Genesis. I would love a PS5 remake with graphics that are similar to Octopath Traveller. Also QOL changes like skips / fast forward and rewinds during battles to help the newer generation. They don’t have the time to spend 40 minutes on a battle and end up failing. Just to start the battle all over again.
NBA Jam on GameCube
Graphics should be redone
Would love to play it on xbox series X
I loved the original Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction on the original Xbox. I’d love for it to be remastered with improved graphics and current control schemes or for the series to be back. I’d love to see it port over to the PC as Mercenaries 2 is on the PC but not the original.
The game I played in the past that I believe should be redone soon is Day of Defeat for the PC.
Console: PC
Changes: To make a new version of Day of Defeat exciting, I would suggest incorporating updated graphics and improved physics to enhance the overall visual and immersive experience. Introducing more realistic weapon handling, advanced audio design, and refined gameplay mechanics would also add depth to the gameplay. Additionally, expanding the selection of maps, introducing new game modes, and enhancing the teamwork and communication aspects would make the new version more engaging and replayable.
Console of choice: Since Day of Defeat has traditionally been a PC game, I would prefer a new version on a gaming PC or current Gen Consoles.
I would like to see the Pandemonium Games. These games were published on the PS1. I’d like of course higher-res graphics and better sound. But it would also interesting to have a cross-over with Spyro, because the Pandemonium and the Spyro games are from the same company (Toys for bob).
1. Gladius on the original Xbox.
2. Obviously updated looks/voice recording, very dated. Could also incorporate some features of modern day turn based strategy games like XCOM and Fire Emblem.
3. I’d like to play it on Series X
I played so many hours of the 1997 beat ’em up game Fighting Force for PS1, I would love to see this a remake of this game with next-gen graphics and haptics on the PS5!
A game that should be redone is Midnight Club 3 DUB Edition. I played it on the original Xbox. Some new changes would include updating the graphics and better online play. I’d like to play it on the Xbox Series X.

Time to have a current Nintendo system again – hopefully.
Will start with #TearsOfTheKingdom and New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe
I would need to say Legend of Legaia back in my og Playstation days
I remember borrowing it from a friend and being reqlly bad at it until I rented it again a few years later and having fun. Always wanted to go back and replay. Maybe I’ll do this given the thought has crossed my mind. Good ol’days coming back from school and starting games up with that classic PS splash and audio
I need more mass effect!
Give me more mass effect!!
Would love a Fusion Frenzy remake, played on the OG Xbox with my brothers and cousin and it is one of the best party games ever. Update the game with improved graphics, physics, and online MP of course
