What is an external SSD?

Many computers nowadays have SSDs as an internal storage device, but the problem with relying on your own computer’s storage drive is that it can slow your system down as you max out its capacity.   1. I need the shield for backup of my home PC. Going to an external drive would be good. The files would be mostly photos and vids that can’t be replaced.
