With back to school approaching quicker than I’d like, it’s time to take stock of leftover school supplies and head out shopping. Top of the purchase list for my boys is a new backpack. They like to look at their classes for the upcoming year and then choose their backpack according to what their needs will be. Some questions to think about are, how many binders will I have, how many textbooks, do I have a lot of accessories such as pens, pencils, art supplies, etc.

Today I’m reviewing 5 different style backpacks from High Sierra, read on to see which of them is the perfect fit for your upcoming school year.

The High Sierra Loop Day Backpack

High Sierra Loop Day BackpackThe first thing I noticed about the High Sierra Loop Day Backpack is that it’s the perfect day-to-day backpack size wise. It can easily fit a couple binders and textbooks, as well as a pencil case. So many students these days use a tablet/smartphone of some kind and this backpack will keep it safe in the dedicated Tech Spot sleeve. There’s plenty of extra pockets too, such as the integrated organizer with multiple pockets and a built-in key fob and a mesh beverage holder on each side of the backpack.

High Sierra also takes comfort and support into consideration with this Loop Day Backpack. Their s-shaped mesh padded shoulder straps feature a suspension system and there’s also a padded back panel for maximum comfort while carrying. Some added features of this backpack are the front attachment clip as well as side adjustable compression straps, and multi-purpose compression straps. These extra compression straps allow you to essentially adjust and compress your backpack contents so they’re nice and snug in your bag.

The High Sierra Mini Loop Day Backpack

High Sierra Mini Loop Day BackpackNext up, but also part of the Loop family, is the High Sierra Mini Loop Day Backpack. Smaller than it’s sibling the Loop Day, this backpack still has many of the same features, just in a smaller package. I find it to be the perfect size for day outings where you might need a change of clothes, some sunscreen, a good book, snacks and personal belongings like a phone or wallet. Another great use for this mini is for smaller children who won’t be carrying binders and textbooks but still need a reliable and comfortable backpack. I also love that there’s an internal name tag in case it gets misplaced at school or on a field trip.

There’s the larger main compartment for storage, a smaller front pocket with an integrated multi-pocket organizer and a mesh beverage pocket on one side. For comfort there’s the padded s-shaped shoulder straps and back panel.

The High Sierra Curve Day Backpack

High Sierra Curve Day BackpackMoving on to the Curve collection. The High Sierra Curve Day Backpack has one large main compartment and another media compartment with a built-in organizer. It has one side mesh beverage holder and a heavy-duty webbed grab handle on the top for easy pick up. On the back of the backpack you’ll find the padded back panel as well as padded s-shaped straps. You’ll also find a small mesh media pocket on one of the back straps which is perfect for a small pair of ear buds or headphones.

The High Sierra Access 2.0

High Sierra Access 2.0 17" Laptop Day BackpackOnto a larger backpack now with quite a few bells and whistles. The High Sierra Access 2.0 17” Laptop Day Backpack has so much to offer and a lot of functional space. The large main compartment has plenty of space on top of the dedicated laptop sleeve and a TECH SPOT sleeve for smaller items such as tablets or draw pads. There’s also a second large pocket with an added mesh zipper pocket inside. In the front you’ll see the smaller pocket with a multi-pocket organizer for smaller items and accessories and two lined media pockets for phones or smaller devices.

Some extras on this backpack are the two mesh beverage holders on the sides, the front attachment clip and daisy loops for added gear, the side compression straps to keep inside items compact and the padded grab handle for easy pick up. Both the back panel and straps feature a breathable padded mesh and the straps also have a sternum strap for added comfort and support. In low light conditions the reflective accents will ensure you’re safe by helping you stay visible. Overall this backpack is super functional and would be perfect for school, work and travel.

The High Sierra Powerglide

High Sierra Powerglide 15" Laptop Day BackpackThe last backpack I reviewed is the High Sierra Powerglide 15″ Laptop Day Backpack. This backpack is perfect for anyone who requires a lot of space and who wants to have the option of using it as a backpack or pull it luggage style. The main compartment is quite large and would easily fit your belongings required for short length travel. The back panel that allows you to tuck away the straps is genius, that way when you are using the telescopic handle and wheels, you don’t have the straps dangling or dragging on the floor.

This backpack feels so sturdy and durable, and the smooth rolling wheels, corner guards and kick plate ensure that your belongings will stay protected while in travel. There’s a second compartment where you’ll find the laptop sleeve that fits up to a 15” laptop, a media pocket, a front multi-pocket organizer and two side zippered compartments as well. To top it off, the reflective accents will help keep you visible in low light conditions. This backpack really has it all.

Final thoughts on High Sierra backpacks for back to school

High Sierra Backpacks BacksOne of the features I found most notable with the above 5 backpacks is the quality of the fabric and design. The fabrics, including the mesh from the pockets, feel strong and durable to the touch and the zippers opened and closed with ease. On the Powerglide, the telescopic handle easily clicks open and shut for a smooth and quick transition and the wheels have texture for grip to lessen any unwanted sliding around.

I love that all the backpacks have a multi-pocket organizer, this is great for smaller items and accessories that often get lost in the bottom of a larger pocket. This is especially handy for day trips or travel where items like a wallet, phone or even passport may be required spur of the moment.

Last of all I have to mention the variety of sizes available. With one of my sons entering 9th grade and the other in Art School, I know how important it is to find the right backpack to fit your needs. While one of them requires plenty of space for binders and textbooks, the other needs to make sure his media and devices are protected. With all the varieties and options offered by High Sierra, it’s quite easy for anyone to find the right backpack to suit their wants and needs.
