top employer Best Buy

Best Buy has just been named one of the top employers in British Columbia this year. I am not surprised. I’ve been working at Best Buy’s head office for almost 4 years, and the people I’ve met and the culture in this organization are simply amazing. This is a very diverse organization, combining bricks and mortar retail with online retail, it’s like the ultimate combination of old and new business: it’s exciting, and challenging, and a really fun environment to pursue a career.

There are many factors that contributed to Best Buy getting awarded this honour: the benefits, charitable initiatives, and employee development programs were among some that were named. Many people come here for a job and stay for the career. There are so many people that I work with, even people at the executive level, who began their career here as a store employee, and stayed to move up in the organization.

Best Buy was started in the states, of course, but don’t be fooled: we are proudly Canadian. This begins at the top with President Ron Wilson (whose Best Buy career began working in a store in Edmonton!) and permeates all levels of the company, from the many associates always happy to assist you in our stores, to the knowledgeable and courteous Geek Squad agents who visit your home to install your new smart home products and televisions.

Best Buy is not just a retail store, it’s a collection of incredible people intent on making that store the best in the country. The people here are very diverse, from all sorts of backgrounds, cultures, and countries, with a wide range of professional interests and abilities. In my job alone I have collaborated with graphic designers, computer programmers, marketers, business analysts, eCommerce specialists, data analytic experts, lawyers, merchandisers, store managers and front line staff, Geek Squad installation experts, and of course a diverse group of writers and editors located across Canada (and that’s just in the past week!) No matter what your interests are, you are likely to find a job that’s perfect for you at Best Buy.

Best Buy has undergone a lot of change in the past couple of years. Most importantly, it keeps getting better. The Best Buy philosophy of “Be Amazing” keeps growing and getting stronger. You learn about that philosophy when you start the job, you feel it as you learn your job, and you live it as you take ownership of your role in the organization.
