Original game based on the Star Trek Prodigy animated series
Based on the Star Trek Prodigy animated series, Star Trek Prodigy: Supernova begins after the USS Protostar stumbles upon a Dyson Sphere and picks up strange readings. After deciding to investigate, the ship and crew unexpectedly crash land. With their ship seemingly doomed, the crew tries to beam off to safety, but the transporters malfunction, splitting the crew among the three planets orbiting the Dyson Sphere.
It becomes a race against time for Dal R’El and Gwyndala to gather their friends and escape before the local star explodes in a supernova. Overall, the plot of the game feels on par and easily fits well within the Star Trek universe. While you don’t have to have any prior knowledge of Prodigy to enjoy the story.
The game’s story does make references to important events from the animated series. So, if you want to fully understand all the references, you might want to watch or rewatch previous episodes to ensure you’re up to speed.
Use your unique skills to overcome puzzles
Gameplay wise, you’ll explore various planets and switch between playing as Gywn and Dal solving puzzles. These puzzles often involve elements such as power lines, switches, blocks, and transporters. As you progress, you’ll rescue other crewmates who return to the Protostar and occasionally beam down to help unblock your path.
Levels and missions are fairly straightforward, but you can revisit completed stages at any time to collect items you missed or that required help from a rescued crewmember. A feature useful for younger players in the game is the Tricorder. With a simple button press, a pulse is emitted and important objects are highlighted, showing you the way to your next objective.
Dal and Gywn have different abilities, which compliment each other that you use to solve various puzzles. For example, Gywn can crawl and has the ability to turn invisible to avoid security cameras. On the other hand, Dal can lift heavy objects that Gywn can crawl under.
While the game is aimed towards younger players and doesn’t have any extremely difficult challenges. The level of depth and creativity in the second half of the game is pretty impressive. Even if you have no prior knowledge of the story or characters , you can still enjoy the game.
The look and feel of the Prodigy animated series
