Sony celebrates over 500 million PlayStation systems sold world-wide

Sony Interactive Entertainment recently revealed that it has officially sold more than 525 Million PlayStation video game systems worldwide. And, to celebrate this momentous event, a brand new 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro is coming. As an avid gamer, I was there day one when the original PlayStation launched in North America on 09/09/95.
Since then, the PlayStation brand has provided me with countless memories and thousands upon thousands of hours of enjoyment. With over 81.2 Million PlayStation 4 consoles sold world wide as of this past July, it is clear the PlayStation brand is stronger than ever.
The 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro contains the feature rich hardware with support for 4K quality images and high-dynamic-range technology. So what makes this limited edition console so special? Let’s take a look!
500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro – Available August 24
The 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro will be released worldwide on August 24, 2018. It features a translucent dark blue shell that looks absolutely gorgeous. As an added touch, each console features a copper plate with its very own limited edition serial number etched on it. Whoa!
You know what is even cooler than that? There will be consoles with special serial numbers that are important in PlayStation history such as the launch dates of the original PlayStation, PS2, PS4 and PS VR in each country.
Here are the main features of the 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro:
- Matching PlayStation Camera with depth-sensing 3D technology and support for PlayStation Move controllers and PS VR.
- Matching Vertical Stand that allows you to place your console in the upright position
- 2TB Hard drive that is double the size of the standard PlayStation 4 Pro. This allows you to store even more apps, games, gameplay videos and more.
- Matching translucent dark blue DualShock 4 controller
- Increased CPU and GPU power (almost twice as powerful as the PS4)
- 4K TV owners will be able to enjoy all PS4 titles in higher quality, such as 4K quality resolution and faster or more stable frame rates
- HDTV owners will benefit from 1080p resolution for all PS4 games, and higher or more stable frame rates for some supported titles
- Supports 4K streaming for services like Netflix and YouTube
- Supports high-dynamic-range (HDR) imaging technology for greater visual clarity, colour, and luminance
- 3 USB 3.1 ports (one more than the PS4)
When and where can I buy the 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro?
With only 50,000 units available world-wide, the 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro will be in short supply. The good news is; Best Buy Canada will be getting a limited supply of the 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro systems to sell.
Consoles will be available for purchase on August 24, 2018. These limited edition consoles will be available online only and in limited quantities. Sorry, no rainchecks. This means that when they are gone, they are gone.
Additionally, there will be a limited quantity of 500 Million Limited Edition DualShock 4 controllers for sale. Again, just like the console, the controllers will be sold online only.
