Video gaming keeps growing. The major consoles have been out for a while now and game developers continue to bring out more action, stunning details, and incredible gameplay in the newest games this year. We expect some amazing announcements this June as we celebrate gaming with Play at Best Buy. Follow us as we cover the biggest announcements and preorders in the gaming industry. You can learn about all the gaming news in our articles and preorder many of the games soon after they are announced (or learn when preorders begin). And like every year in June, Play at Best Buy will include a huge gaming contest!

Innovation and nostalgia make gaming better every year

The gaming world is constantly adapting and building on its previous successes. Each new game is an iteration on the programming, animation, videography, and sound design that came before to bring an immersive blend of storytelling, interactive entertainment, and competition. This year we have already seen amazing games, including Star Wars: Jedi Survivor by Respawn and EA games. And Nintendo just released the highly anticipated: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Fans have been waiting for years to play this game and many are already calling it the game of the year.

Both of those titles bring a healthy dose of nostalgia with new game play features that stretch the limits of technology. We expect to see more of this trend in many of the gaming announcements over the rest of this year, especially from now to the end of June. Be on the lookout for several more reboots and sequels. Additionally, watch for potential future franchise games in the many indy titles vying for our attention.

The announcements started early this year with the PlayStation Showcase on May 24th. The buzz of gaming month is driven in a large part by gaming announcements, but also by the great deals that Best Buy will feature all month long. It’s just a great month to be a gamer! How to enter

Entering this contest will be fun and you can enter in three different ways:

  1. In a comment below: tell us the name of a game you played in the past that you think should be redone soon. A valid entry must include all three of these parts: 1. what console you played it on; 2. what changes you suggest would make a new version exciting; and 3. on which console would you like to try this new version of the game.
  2. Social post: For two additional entries, create a public post on a social media channel sharing with your friends and followers that you are entering the Play at Best Buy blog contest. Let your friends know which prize package you are hoping to win and what new game you will play first if you do win; include the hashtag #PlayatBestBuyContest, so we can find your post, and include a picture from this contest page. Then return here and tell us in a comment below on which channel you posted it and the name of your channel (since many people use pseudonyms) so that we can check and verify your entry. You can use any social media channel (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.), but the post must be public so we can verify it is there.
  3. Email a photo: If you visit any Best Buy store, take a picture with your smartphone of the gaming section in a store showing several of the games available that you love to play. Then in an email to bestbuyblog@bestbuycanada.ca with the subject line “Play at Best Buy Contest” tell us the location of the store (city, street) and attach the picture.

What you can win

At the end of the contest, we will randomly select six (6) winners from all eligible entries. These winners will be randomly assigned to the six prize packages shown above so each winner will get one of those six prize packages.

This contest runs from May 31st to June 30th.

Remember you can enter up to four times as mentioned above. Perhaps you’ve been trying to win a prize in a Best Buy Canada contest for many years and just have not been lucky. Hedge your bet by telling all of your friends and family that you really need their support for this amazing contest. They’ll likely be happy to enter this contest too.   1. Doom, definitely should be redone, played it on xbox. Add 4K graphics, it would be outstanding game at another level. It would be awesome on PS3.

  2. My favorite game was Bond: Goldeneye on the N64. Now that you can play with people online, it would be super fun to play with my friends again even though we can’t be in the same room together. It would be amazing on PS5!

  3. I’ve been playing through Final Fantasy IX lately, on the original Playstation. Fixing the loading times and the graphics would be a huge plus. They could also re-orchestrate the flawless OST. I’d love to play it on PS5 and have it run smoothly!

  6. I used to play Halo on the original Xbox. I would change the ability of the Pelican to engage the enemy or the Spartans version of ghost. I would play on the latest Xbox console

  10. I used to play Blinx: The Time Sweeper on the original XBOX. I would change the controls. I’d like to try it on the new Xbox console.

  11. I played Duck Hunt on the original Nintendo. To make it more exciting the laughing dog should be a target and it should be on Nintendo Switch.

  12. Duck Hunt could be fun redone. My grandchildren hear about it and that grandpa played it with their dad, and they want a chance to play! Would be so fun, especially with the dog popping up and laughing.

  16. Back when I was a kid I used to loved Battletoads on the SNES. I’d love to see a new version on the switch with updated graphics but similar game play. Just a big nostalgia one for me.

  17. assassins creed 1 loved it on a the classic xbox 360 assassins creed was the first game i got for the xbox 360 and absolutely loved it’s running around with the hidden blade assassinating the target not even talking about the present day just loved it i want them to change weapons add more i loved it in assassins creed to i would play it on xbox series x if i would win one

  18. I’d love to play ‘Streets of Rage’ (Sega Genesis) on XBOX. The only change I would make is to make all previous characters playable, plus add new ones. Keep everything else, the graphics, the music, etc.

  19. Duck hunt should be redone. I played it on the original Nintendo. To make it more exciting the laughing dog should be a target and it should be on Nintendo Switch.

  25. Driver 1 on the PS1. I played that game so many times. I would need a visual update as it would be very blocky by today’s standards. I would play it on the PS5.

  27. I’d like to see them remake Bomber-man 64 from the Nintendo 64. I’d like to see them remake it for cell phone and allow you to battle people nearby.

  28. Zelda 2 (released originally on the NES). I would lower the difficulty and use 2.5D modern graphics (like that they did to Metroid II: Return of Samus when it was remake for the 3DS as Metroid: Samus Returns). The same would be great on the Switch or its successor…

  30. I used to love rushing home after work to play Mario Bros on my Nintendo in the early 90’s. Now I know the spinoffs are already out there but I think the original would be awesome in a VR and PC console setup where its not 2D spatial area anymore.

  31. I played PAC Man on Nintendo Gameboy. I think a new and improved version should be released with 4 K graphics and I would love to play it on Xbox One X

  32. People need to know of some lesser-known IPs such as Suikoden for PS1/PS2. A remake of either 1 or 2 would work great. Since the game has multiple systems (mini-games, turn-based combat, tactical battles, duels), it would be a good artistic challenge to see these translated to modern systems. The current cel-shading technologies would make them look great, and reworking these systems to make them bulkier would make for an easy AAA experience. The PS5 would be the main platform of choice, but since it’s a Konami IP, it would likely appear everywhere else not long after.

  34. I think Paladin’s Quest should be redone. Surprising find at a local game retailer.

    2. Changes to modernized graphics / sprites in addition to changing JRPG mechanics to action. Part of me wants to incorporate rogue-like elements since that’s my jam but I don’t think it would fit
    3. I’d like to see the care and attention FFVII got so I’d like to see this on the PS5

  35. Loved mario is missing on the SNES hope to see it come back for a reboot on the switch with brand new voice acting and mini games. #marioismissing is awesome!

  36. I think an amazing game that i think should be redone is nintendo’s rhythm heaven series. I remember playing it on the wii a long time ago. it would be great to see new inputs and controls added to the game since the old game only featured the use of 2 buttons, so maybe the addition of motion controls would make it more fun. it would be awesome to see this new version on the switch, the joycon motion tech would be perfect for the additional controls and would be a great addition to their roster of games, it would also make for a great party game.

  37. When I was a little boy I played Mario Kart Double Dash on the Nintendo Gamecube. It was probably the most fun I’ve had in my entire life, I hope this game is ported over to the switch with new features like online play and better graphics.

  38. I think Gex is an amazing game to be remade with 4k graphics and better Gex jokes, I originally played Gex on my sega saturn. Gex was also on the original PlayStation so I think that gex should be remade for the PS5

  39. I played Spyro on the PS1, I would suggest integrating 4K graphics + Co-op compatibility to cater better towards the new-gen gamers. I would love to see this on the PS5 because that’s the console it originated on; as well as a PC compatible copy of the game.

  40. I want to see crash bandicoot or Spyro the Dragon remade for ps5, I would add 4k graphics and splitscreen playability.

  41. I would love to see The Last of Us 3 on Playstation 5. I recently played The Last of Us 2 on my Playstation 4 and it was amazing. They could really evolve the story in part 3 where Ellie needs to track down Abbie so they can find the Fireflies together and finally Ellie can sacrifice herself for a cure. It would be an EPIC ending.

  42. They should redo Guitar Hero, I played it on XBOX360, they improve it by adding a clarinet. I would play it on PC

  43. EarthBound on the SNES definitely needs a remake. Such an underrated RPG game on the Super Nintendo. It should be done on the Nintendo Switch with updated graphics and soundtrack.

  44. NBA Jam. I played it on a Sega Genesis. A remake with legendary NBA players and better graphics on the Nintendo Switch would be great.

  45. I think there should be a new Spyro the Dragon Game. I played it on PlayStation 1 but I really think a new original game is needed. Same great gameplay, new graphics, open world and levels to beat. Cute new characters and bring back Sparx!

  46. Guitar Hero and Rockband originally played on XBox One. Would like to see it on Nintendo Switch. See if there is anything innovative Nintendo could add to those games.

  47. It would be great to play Donkey Kong 64 again. I had originally played it on our Nintendo 64. I’d like to see the graphics improved. I’d like to play it with my son on his Nintendo Switch!

  50. Lord of the rings – The 2 towers. A fantastic game that would be amazing if redone. On PS5
