We expect some amazing announcements this June as we celebrate gaming with Play at Best Buy. Follow us as we cover the biggest announcements and preorders in the gaming industry. You can learn about all the gaming news in our articles and preorder many of the games soon after they are announced (or learn when preorders begin). And like every year in June, Play at Best Buy will include a huge gaming contest!

Innovation and nostalgia make gaming better every year

The gaming world is constantly adapting and building on its previous successes. Each new game is an iteration on the programming, animation, videography, and sound design that came before to bring an immersive blend of storytelling, interactive entertainment, and competition. This year we have already seen amazing games, including Star Wars: Jedi Survivor by Respawn and EA games. And Nintendo just released the highly anticipated: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Fans have been waiting for years to play this game and many are already calling it the game of the year.

Both of those titles bring a healthy dose of nostalgia with new game play features that stretch the limits of technology. We expect to see more of this trend in many of the gaming announcements over the rest of this year, especially from now to the end of June. Be on the lookout for several more reboots and sequels. Additionally, watch for potential future franchise games in the many indy titles vying for our attention.

How to enter

Entering this contest will be fun and you can enter in three different ways:

  1. In a comment below: tell us the name of a game you played in the past that you think should be redone soon. A valid entry must include all three of these parts: 1. what console you played it on; 2. what changes you suggest would make a new version exciting; and 3. on which console would you like to try this new version of the game.
  2. Social post: For two additional entries, create a public post on a social media channel sharing with your friends and followers that you are entering the Play at Best Buy blog contest. Let your friends know which prize package you are hoping to win and what new game you will play first if you do win; include the hashtag #PlayatBestBuyContest, so we can find your post, and include a picture from this contest page. Then return here and tell us in a comment below on which channel you posted it and the name of your channel (since many people use pseudonyms) so that we can check and verify your entry. You can use any social media channel (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.), but the post must be public so we can verify it is there.
  3. Email a photo: If you visit any Best Buy store, take a picture with your smartphone of the gaming section in a store showing several of the games available that you love to play. Then in an email to bestbuyblog@bestbuycanada.ca with the subject line “Play at Best Buy Contest” tell us the location of the store (city, street) and attach the picture.

What you can win

At the end of the contest, we will randomly select six (6) winners from all eligible entries. These winners will be randomly assigned to the six prize packages shown above so each winner will get one of those six prize packages.

This contest runs from May 31st to June 30th.

Remember you can enter up to four times as mentioned above. Perhaps you’ve been trying to win a prize in a Best Buy Canada contest for many years and just have not been lucky. Hedge your bet by telling all of your friends and family that you really need their support for this amazing contest. They’ll likely be happy to enter this contest too. If they win, I’m sure they’ll share the prize with you.

The beauty of the temples and that version of Hyrule with modern graphics would be outstanding! I think motion controls could also add some fun to the game.

  4. A great game that I’ve played in the past that I’d like to see a modern remake of, with a photo-realistic graphic style and music performed by an actual orchestra, would be Chrono Trigger on the SNES. if it were to be remade, I’d love to see it available on the Nintendo Switch 🙂

  5. I was playing cocker live and reloaded on my Xbox one recently and I would to see it remade for Xbox live servers lol the multiplayer was wicked funny to play with buddies.

  8. The Secret of Monkey Island should be redone (again). I played it in the 90s on my family desktop computer. I’d love to play a version on the switch. I think adding more interactive elements, puzzles, and humour would be great!

  9. Twisted Metal was a fantastic game on PS1. A new version with online multiplayer would be epic on PS5.

  10. They should do a new Grand Theft Auto 2. I used to play with my kids on PS3 when they were young & we had so much fun!! With the advancement in graphics the gaming would be epic now. Add some new cities, new characters, new quests. Would be amazing to play on Playstation 5!!!

  11. I would love a new version of Katamari Damacy. I used to play it on the PS2 and I think it would be so fun to experience it again but for the PS5! I think an even bigger world and better graphics could be explored.

  12. I use to play Duck Hunt on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), and I think that should be redone soon! I would like to try this new version of the game on Nintendo Switch, with changes such as, a wireless gun and improved graphics.

  13. I tell us the name of a game you played in the past that you think should be redone soon. A valid entry must include all three of these parts: 1. what console you played it on; 2. what changes you suggest would make a new version exciting; and 3. on which console would you like to try this new version of the game.

I loved to play Turok: Dinosaur Hunter on the N64 and the ability to make the graphics so much better now and the worlds much bigger would make a new version one that I would want to play on PS5.

  14. I’d love to see Mike Tyson Punchout redone. I played it on original Nintendo. I would make the game use sensors so you actually fight each fighter. It should be redone for the Nintendo switch so you can use the handheld controllers for the punching.

  15. 1. I would love to see the “MYST” series that was on PC. It was an incredible serires and filled with wonderful vistas and puzzles.

    2. I would absolutely love to see the entire seiries brought up to “today” with full HD graphics/4K, etc….and ALL of the games being fully 3D and the ability to just walk around anywhere we want, a dynamic and changing world of weather and just everything to bring each “world’ alive

    3. Of course it would have to be re-released on PS4.

  16. I used to be a master of Yar’s Revenge on the Atari 2600 but I would love to see it in 3D on my Macbook screen

  17. last game i played was: FINAL FANTASY. i played it on Playstation 3. I suggest a newer version that has higher resolution with sharper textures, and improved controls. Also the remake should have added content that enhances and makes the over all story and game flow better for like more magical and fantastical elements and perhaps set some goal challenges within the game. I want to try playing it on playstation 5.

  18. I loved the game X-Men Mutant Apocalypse. I have been thinking about it lately too. I think that remade for the PS5 would be unreal! Amp up the graphics. Use the same characters, maybe add a few more I guess. Then there should be an option to side scroll the screen, much like the TMNT remakes. Or, just go wild with it and have a 3D world X-Men game. Sign me up!

  19. Captain Toad™: Treasure Tracker on Ninendo Switch needs to be upgraded on Nintendo Switch with new adventures.

  20. Rapala Pro Bass Fishing on Wii U needs to be upgraded for Nintendo Switch. I’ve yet to find a good fishing game on Nintendo Switch to date.

  21. 2K21 Golf on Nintendo Switch. I would like to see it improved on Nintendo Switch with better graphics and more courses.

  22. I loved Duck Hunt on the original Nintendo console. It would be great if it was update for Switch using repetitive gun action instead of a single shot.

  23. I think Chrono Trigger is due for an update! I used to play it on the SNES, but I think it would be great for the Switch! Better graphics would be great, as well as more detailed storylines.

  24. Back on the PS2, I really enjoyed playing Def Jam: Vendetta. I’d love to see a remaster/reimagining of it on the new consoles.

We’re starting to get into a new age of Fighting games, so having another one would be really welcome, plus it was used to promote artists back then, so you could market newer stars to more modern artists. It doesn’t really even need much else other than maybe a new set of graphics/roster. It would be good to see on Ps5/XBSX/Switch, and maybe have cross-platform!

  25. FIFA would the game for the Sony PlayStation with interactive comments from the actual players in the league.
I would love to play in PlayStation 5!

  26. A game I would love to have redone is Grand Theft Auto Vice City or San Andreas and it would be amazing if I could play it on the switch so I can play it on the go. I used to play it on play station and a different version on my old Nintendo DS. The changes I would make would be to have an option where you can hold the joy stick controllers and use those with hand gestures to shoot or punch people in the game, like the Wii! Being able to design your own character would be amazing too. I would also love to be able to give people tattoos for money in the game like you could on the Nintendo DS version of Grand Theft Auto.

  27. 1. I would love to see the “MYST” series that was on PC. It was an incredible serires and filled with wonderful vistas and puzzles.

Thank you for this amazing chance to win some awesome prizes Best Buy and Martin…..Good Luck to everyone 🙂

  28. The game that needs to be redone the most is Grand Theft Auto 2. They shouldn’t make it just a remaster. It should be maybe even a whole different game based on it and its gameplay style. With more cars, enemies, weapons, etc. This game would be perfect for the Nintendo Switch and is where I’d want to play it.

  29. I’m torn with this one but I play need for speed on the Xbox with my hubby and kids a lot and that would be one I’d love to play redone for the ps5.. imagine those wicked car graphics and live gaming !

  30. I loved playing Loony toon adventures on Game boy. I think it would be a great game to remake with more in-depth story and adventure on the Nintendo Switch.

  31. Loved Guitar Hero on PS3. A new version would be exciting with current music and better graphics + audio quality. Would be fun to see it on PS5!

  32. Duck hunt 100%. Played on the NES. New graphics and functionality would make this game so much more enjoyable for newer audiences. Would love to play it on the switch or an upcoming version of the switch.

  33. I absolutely loved micro machines on the original Nintendo. We talk about it all the time! Remember driving on a pool table and those hard to handle boats in the bathtub? So much fun! Id love see a new version of them on a map of big tourist cities like driving around Toronto and the cn tower. With the capabilities to race against others around the world this would be such a fun new game style to this game! I think it would be a great addition to the Nintendo switch family.

  34. I want too see the old school Game Boy Pokémon red and blue get a next gen treatment. Keep the old school Pokémon, but bring it into a 3D environment, internet battles and trades.

  35. Doom for being redone, played it on xbox. Add 4K graphics, it would be outstanding game at another level. It would be awesome on PS3.
