Video gaming keeps growing. The major consoles have been out for a while now and game developers continue to bring out more action, stunning details, and incredible gameplay in the newest games this year. We expect some amazing announcements this June as we celebrate gaming with Play at Best Buy. Follow us as we cover the biggest announcements and preorders in the gaming industry. You can learn about all the gaming news in our articles and preorder many of the games soon after they are announced (or learn when preorders begin). And like every year in June, Play at Best Buy will include a huge gaming contest!

Innovation and nostalgia make gaming better every year

The gaming world is constantly adapting and building on its previous successes. Each new game is an iteration on the programming, animation, videography, and sound design that came before to bring an immersive blend of storytelling, interactive entertainment, and competition. This year we have already seen amazing games, including Star Wars: Jedi Survivor by Respawn and EA games. And Nintendo just released the highly anticipated: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Fans have been waiting for years to play this game and many are already calling it the game of the year.

Both of those titles bring a healthy dose of nostalgia with new game play features that stretch the limits of technology. We expect to see more of this trend in many of the gaming announcements over the rest of this year, especially from now to the end of June. Be on the lookout for several more reboots and sequels. Additionally, watch for potential future franchise games in the many indy titles vying for our attention.

Prizes are huge part of Play at Best Buy

How to enter

Entering this contest will be fun and you can enter in three different ways:

  1. In a comment below: tell us the name of a game you played in the past that you think should be redone soon. A valid entry must include all three of these parts: 1. what console you played it on; 2. what changes you suggest would make a new version exciting; and 3. on which console would you like to try this new version of the game.
  2. Social post: For two additional entries, create a public post on a social media channel sharing with your friends and followers that you are entering the Play at Best Buy blog contest. Let your friends know which prize package you are hoping to win and what new game you will play first if you do win; include the hashtag #PlayatBestBuyContest, so we can find your post, and include a picture from this contest page. Then return here and tell us in a comment below on which channel you posted it and the name of your channel (since many people use pseudonyms) so that we can check and verify your entry. You can use any social media channel (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.), but the post must be public so we can verify it is there.
  3. Email a photo: If you visit any Best Buy store, take a picture with your smartphone of the gaming section in a store showing several of the games available that you love to play. Then in an email to bestbuyblog@bestbuycanada.ca with the subject line “Play at Best Buy Contest” tell us the location of the store (city, street) and attach the picture.

What you can win

At the end of the contest, we will randomly select six (6) winners from all eligible entries. These winners will be randomly assigned to the six prize packages shown above so each winner will get one of those six prize packages.

This contest runs from May 31st to June 30th.

Remember you can enter up to four times as mentioned above. Perhaps you’ve been trying to win a prize in a Best Buy Canada contest for many years and just have not been lucky. Hedge your bet by telling all of your friends and family that you really need their support for this amazing contest. They’ll likely be happy to enter this contest too. If they win, I’m sure they’ll share the prize with you.

  1. I think all the 007 games should be remade from playstation 2, and I think the new graphics and new online multiplayer would be amazing to see on the new playstation.

  2. It would be awesome if zoo tycoon was released and has better graphics. Would love to play it on PC!

  3. I used to play NHL ’94 on the Sega Genesis. I’d like to see an updated version with teams and rosters of the 2023-2024 NHL seasons and playable on the X-Box.

    One-timers FTW

  4. With the teaser from Playstation Showcase, I think the next remake should be Metal Gear Solid 1! This was such a great game in PS one and Snake was very Iconic!

    1. Played this on Playstation one
    2. I guess the changes would just be graphics but needs another psycho mantis boss fight with the controller
    3. Of course this should be played in Playstation 5. Because it’s the best place to play

  5. I would love a remake of Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time. I played it back in 1998 on the N64. It was SUCH a good game, the RPG that introduced me to RPGs and so fun while not being as huge and overwhelming as the newer games. I think that the new graphics and tech that’s developed in the past 25 years could make a huge difference to what was already a very solid game. I’m also still waiting for a VR RPG. Come on, make it happennnnn

  6. I used to play Silent Hill on PS1. Better graphics and a VR component would make a newer version an even scarier experience. As a PlayStation gamer, I think it would be great to play on PS5.

  7. Loved playing Bubble Bobble on the NES. Would love to see updated graphics and more challenging levels. And would love to play it on the Switch!

  8. For me, I would pick shadows of the empire, or Parasite Eve. As for what I would change? Just update the graphics and control style

  9. A game that I played in the past that I think should be redone soon is “Chrono Trigger.”
    1. I played it on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES).
    2. For a new version of Chrono Trigger, I suggest enhancing the graphics to make it more visually appealing.
    3. I would like to try this new version of the game on the Nintendo Switch OLED model.

  10. I used to play Zaxxon on my Colecovision. I’d like to see it remade with a complete story, great graphics and action. It would be great on a PS5

  11. The original Blades of Steel on Nintendo NES (that I recently found in the basement). I could see a few updates that would make the game amazingly current but one would be keeping the goal celebration but adding a few others to change it up. Id love to see this on PlayStation and PC.

  12. I would like to try the Nintemdo consol
I played Nancy Drew adventure games downloaded from a games website. Perhaps Nintemdo would do this one?

  13. Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem. It was one of the best Psychological Thriller/Horror games i’ve played. I originally played it on Nintendo GameCube and it would be great if they updated the graphics and added a new storyline with different sanity effects. I’d like to play on the Switch or Xbox X/S.

  14. I would love to see GoldenEye from the Nintendo 64 recreated. It was such a cool FPS adaptation of the movie. Taking advantage of the current generation console capabilities to improve the graphics and expand the multiplayer mode to include online play, and making cooperative play possible, would make the new version very exciting. I would like to try this new version of the game on the Xbox Series X.

  15. They NEED to remake Vanquish for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. PlatinumGames delivered one of their absolute best back in 2010. I played it on the PS3 and remember being absolutely blown away at the frenetic gameplay, dizzying creativity and the sheer sensorial onslaught! Top notch level design, great sound design and some of the most memorable boss fights of the last decade. For the remake, I’d love to see updated graphics, support for the dualsense ( I can already imagine the haptic feedback from the transformation animations of different guns!) and some expanded game content as well as quality of life upgrades. Dead Space is a great example of a not so old game but masterfully redone for the current gen consoles. I’d love to play this on my PS5. Make it happen, Sega!

  16. They should rework the medal of honor series, graphics update, new Online multiplayer.
I would play it on the switch

  17. I loved playing Rock Band on Xbox but I would really like to see it in a virtual format on Meta Quest!

  18. I recall ChronoTrigger (90s era game) that I would love to be redone. I played on Nintendo System.

For changes, I think the big one is graphics update but I could see more plot, twist and turns that made the game great.
I think I would like to try this on an xbox.

  19. Final Fantasy IX should be redone/remade imo. I played it on Ps1 when it first came out, and it would be awesome to see it on Ps5. It would be exciting if they updated it like with the FFVII Remake and game it fast-paced action-based combat

  20. Syphon Filter – from PS1 to PS5 – bring back the stealth & action with a bigger more open world (and keep the tasers).

  21. I love the game Twilight Princess and my brother and I played the game when we were kids on GameCube. It would be cool if they could remake Twilight Princess for the Swtich and utiltize the motion controls for the Switch and possibly expand its world.

  22. I posted it to my facebook page Kris Visserhttps://www.facebook.com/kristen.visser.1/posts/pfbid02SY3wh4teLvda22MgckBvB9U8S3AdvJYKNvT3j6UcHU8FKd13Mo7h59dpb1cqe2Drl

  23. I would love to see an updated version of the game Aladdin! I originally played it on super nintendo but it would be SO awesome to play on either playstation or nintendo switch. It was such a fun game but because of the year it was made it would be awesome to see it redone in the great graphics we have today

  24. They should remake Ocarina of Time! I used to play it on N64. It would be amazing to have a remake! It would be great on the Switch with better motion controls!

  25. I would like to see a remake of Carmen SanDiego. I used to spend hours playing it on a Super Nintendo. I would like to see it on the Nintendo Switch and make it an epic adventure game that will take her to many places in different time periods (teleporting) and solving the world’s mysteries.

  26. I would love to see a remake of Tomba! It’s a 2D action-platformer for the original Playstation, and I played it again recently. It holds up gameplay-wise, but an improvement to the visuals would be stunning, some new improvements to cut down the loading times would really help certain areas, and a better way to organize items/missions would go a long way to making the game more enjoyable! I could see the game releasing on all consoles and Steam, but I would love to play it on Xbox One X!

  27. I would love to see another reboot of Marvel Ultimate Alliance! We played it on the PS2, and a new version would be great with even more MCU characters included. If I could get my hands on a PS5 that would be the perfect platform to try it out on!

  28. The Game I played in the past that I would like to be redone is the game “after burner”. I played this Game all the time as a kid on SEGA it was incredible. On the weekend me and my Friend Ryan would play this Game for hours upon hours.

If this Game ever made a comeback it would be cool if they could make it in 3D or add different type of Planes you could pick from. I think it would be even more cool if they added Characters you could choose from like let’s say Tom Cruise could be one of the Characters you could unlock once you clear the Game that would be cool.

I would love to see this Game redone by PS5 or Nintendo switch that would be awesome!!!

I’m going to tag you on my Twitter account thanks for the opportunity much appreciated. PlayStation prize is my favorite to win. I’m kareemslick on Twitter.

Have a great day keep up the great work

  29. I really loved the game LA Noir! I played it on XBox 360. I would love to see another version with a new crime, or a continuation of that story. Maybe different worlds and time periods to play in as well. I’d love to play this on the PS5 or MetaQuest!

  30. The game that got me loving video games was knights of the old republic on the original Xbox. I would love a remake of that game.

  31. I miss the original Crazy Taxi – I liked the simplicity BUT it should be updated – graphics, and slowdowns, different customers, etc. I used the PS2 but I’d loved to see it available on the Nintendo Switch

  32. I think they FINALLY need to remake Ocarina of Time! I originally played it on the N64 and then again on the GameCube, but its time for a remake! This game would be amazing on the Switch with new graphics and redone motion controls!

  33. I loved the Rock Band series of music games. I enjoyed these on PlayStation 2 as well as Nintendo Wii. I would love the series to be ported to PC (what I would love to play it on) and the change I propose is that the title support guitar and drum controllers from any past console (Activision/Aspyr did something similar with their PC port of Guitar Hero World Tour)

    • I would love to see a reboot of the Atari2600 classic Pitfall with surround sound. I would like to play it on the Xbox Series X

  34. PlayStation 3 had a game called Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots . so good I would love to see it on Playstation 5 I am not sure i would change a thing the game was great, maybe the graphics could be enhanced.

  35. I played on super nintendo
Earthbound, but the remake would need to be the entire mother series translated possibly with new quality of life changes like rewind, quicksave, inventory manipulation, updated graphics or optional updated background music.
It would have to be either on switch or switch and ps4/ps5
I’d really like the playstation package, hope I win!

  36. I had a Super Nintendo Entertainment System and loved playing Super Mario World. That was years ago and the Mario games have vastly improved graphics in 3D. I’d love to try them out on a new Nintendo Switch.

  37. I love all of the original retro games like Pac Man and Donkey Kong. Would love to see these with bigger bolder graphics and sounds.

  38. Wonder Boy in Monster Land, on Sega. For improvments, well, the first that comes to mind is much better graphics. And I’d like to play it on Nintendo Switch.

  39. There was a game for the super nintendo called Evo: Search for Eden. I always thought the idea behind the game was neat. I also woudn’t mind seeing a remake of Zelda: Orcarina of time. Those N64 graphics are so hard on the eyes, but it was such a great game!
