Samsung, LG, Hisense, and more showed off some of the top TVs at CES 2023. While a few of the big brands didn’t make new TV announcements at their CES 2023 press conferences, that doesn’t mean they didn’t unveil their latest models.
All of the TV announcements at CES 2023
Judging from our first look at the new TVs unveiled at CES 2023, the trend this year keeps the focus on OLED, Mini-LED, and QLED. There were also quite a few TVs that fall into the gaming TV category. The main resolution found on new TVs is still firmly 4K, as many streaming platforms now offer 4K content.
Hisense launches new ULED TVs
Hisense announced several new TVs at their press conference yesterday. The new U8, U7, and U6 series TVs are all Mini-LED TVs available in a variety of sizes.
Hisense U8,U7, and U6 TVs
The Hisense U8, U6, and U6 Series TVs share a few of the same features. They are all 4K TVs with Mini-LED backlight and quantum dot overlay and are available in 55”, 65”, 75”, and 85” sizes. They all run the Google operating system and have a different tech to enhance whatever you’re watching including FilmMaker Mode, Dolby Vision IQ™ and HDR10+.
They also all have 144Hz native refresh rate and Game Mode Pro to auto-dial in the best settings for your game. They offer Auto Low Latency Mode, FreeSync™ Premium Pro and 4 high-speed HDMI ports including two that run HDMI 2.1 4K@144hz and 1x eARC for a sound bar.
One of the most interesting features of these TVs is the integrated NEXTGEN TV (ATSC 3.0) tuner. You can use it to watch high-quality over-the-air TV. There’s also improved sound with Dolby Atmos® and the eARC and WiSA SoundSend support to let you connect a wireless speaker or sound bar.
The main differences between the U8 and the U7/U6.
- The U8 is the flagship TV for Hisense, with 1000 local dimming zones and an enhanced peak brightness of 1500 nits. It has 2.1.2 Multi-channel audio and an ultra-low reflection screen.
- The U7 has a peak brightness of 1000 nits and 500 local dimming zones. It has 2.1 Multi-channel audio.
- The U6 has a peak brightness of 600 nits and 200 local dimming zones. It has 2.1.2 Multi-channel audio.
Hisense ULED X
The biggest announcement from Hisense was the ULED X TV. It’s a Mini-LED TV, but for this TV it’s called Mini-LED X. The Hisense ULED X is an 85-inch TV that uses a 16-bit light control algorithm for true-to-life picture quality, and it has 5,000 individual dimming zones and a peak brightness of 2,500 nits.
While new TVs are often too thin to offer sound quality, the Hisense ULED X boasts a 4.1.2-channel sound system they’ve called CineStage X. It offers 80 watts pumped across seven speakers for the most immersive audio experience.
Samsung TV
Samsung unveiled several TVs at CES 2023 including new NeoQLED models, a large MicroLED TV, and a new OLED.
2023 Samsung NeoQLED TVs
Samsung just released its NeoQLED TVs for 2023 and they’re available in both 8K and 4K resolution. These TVs are Quantum Mini LED and are powered by a Neural Quantum Processor that offers both AI upscaling and AI Deep Learning. They have some cool features like Shape Adaptive Light Control and Real Depth Enhancer Pro to create a more realistic and vibrant picture.
One of the best new features on 2023 Samsung NeoQLED TVs is Auto HDR remastering. It uses AI to apply HDR in real-time, making even standard-resolution images look brighter and more lifelike.
Samsung is getting closer to mainstream MicroLED
Samsung revealed it will have a new MicroLED lineup for 2023 including TVs that range in size from 50 inches to 140 inches as well as a MicroLED TV called the Samsung CX. MicroLED is exciting because it will offer the same colour and contrast as OLED, but it doesn’t use organic light-emitting diodes that can degrade over time. Samsung has also said that the new MicroLED lineup won’t require professional installation.
2023 Samsung QD-OLEDs
2023 Samsung OLEDs will be available in 55 inches, 65 inches, and a new 77-inch model. They are QD-OLED TVs, offering a unique Quantum Dot overlay on an OLED panel. Samsung has enhanced peak brightness, colour, and contrast, and if last year’s QD-OLED was anything to go on, the new model will have spectacular picture quality. The 2023 QD-OLED has a speedy 144Hz refresh rate and Samsung’s Gamer Hub built-in. They also have AMD’s FreeSync Premium Pro certification to make them a major contender as an OLED gaming TV.
Updates to Samsung Gaming Hub
Gaming Hub will be available on all new Samsung TVs. You get unlimited access to games from partners like Xbox, NVIDIA GeForce NOW, Amazon Luna, and Utomik, and you don’t have to worry about connecting a console or having enough storage. The user experience is very intuitive. All you have to do is turn your TV on and start playing. One of my favourite features of the Gaming Hub on last year’s Samsung TVs was the RGB glow when you turn on the Gaming Menu.
Starting in 2023, there’ll be even more features on Gaming Hub including MiniMap Sharing and Virtual Aim Point. MiniMap Sharing shows you a minimap of your game on any display, and Virtual Aim Point makes it easier to aim and fire at your enemies in FPS games.
Samsung Gaming Hub isn’t just for TVs anymore – it’s also available on Samsung Smart Monitors and other gaming screens like the Samsung Odyssey series.
Samsung TV Plus updates
Samsung will now offer Samsung TV Plus on all of its smart TVs. Samsung TV Plus is a video-on-demand service with over 1,800 channels globally. It’s free, and you won’t need to download anything or sign up for a subscription to access it.
LG TVs
LG was one of the only big brands to focus on TVs at their 2023 press conference. They unveiled a few new models that are sure to be very popular with gamers and home theatre fans. Christine has written an overview of the new LG TVs for 2023 so you can take a look for more detail. Here’s a quick recap of what she covered.
LG C3, G3, and Z3 OLED TVs
The LG C3 and LG G3 are the latest generation of the C and G series. They are 4K OLED TVs, with the LG C3 being the most popular for gaming and the LG G3 a sleek home theatre-friendly version you can flush mount. The LG Z3 is an 8K OLED.
LG’s new Signature OLED M-Series
The LG Signature OLED M-Series is the first wireless TV from LG. It’s a massive 97-inch TV that uses a Zero Connect box for power and inputs. You can keep your Zero Connect box tucked away and it can send 4K/120Hz video wirelessly to your TV.
TCL TVs
TCL has announced two new TV lines – the TCL S-Series and TCL Q-Series.
TCL Q6, Q7, and Q8 TVs
The flagship TCL TV this year is the TCL QM8. It’s a 4K QLED TV with a thin design, an adjustable height stand, and a virtually bezel-less frame. Available in 65 inches and 98 inches, this TV has an astounding 2300 dimming zones built into the Mini-LED ULTRA display. It has a 120Hz refresh rate that can be boosted to 240Hz via a feature called Game Accelerator 240. You can also turn it off and game on your PS5 at 4K/120Hz VRR. The TCL QM8 has a built-in subwoofer, and that’s a pretty impressive feature.
The TCL Q7 shares many of the same features, but the Q7 is a quantum dot 4K TV with LED backlight using Full Array local dimming. It does have 120Hz native refresh rate as well as Game Accelerator 240 to bump it to 240Hz for gaming. It’s available in 55 to 85-inch screen sizes.
The lower-end model in the TCL Q series is the Q6. It’s a 4K QLED TV HighBright display that’s 66% brighter than non-QLED TVs. The Q6 has 60Hz native refresh rate and TCL says it can be bumped to 120Hz with VRR for gaming by turning on Game Accelerator 120. It’s available in 50 to 75-inch sizes.
TCL S Series
The TCL S Series are budget and family-friendly TVs. Each model has a different resolution.
- The TCL S4 is a 4K Ultra HD LED TV with HDR. It has Dolby Vision® HDR, Dolby Atmos® audio, and MEMC. It’s available in 43 to 85-inch screen sizes.
- The TCL S3 is a 1080p Full HD resolution TV with HDR. It can double as a computer monitor, and it’s available in 32 to 43-inch screen sizes.
- The TCL S2 is a 720p LED TV available in one 32-inch size.
Displace 4K True Wireless TV
The Displace 4K OLED TV is more futuristic than anything we’ve seen yet. The true wireless TV weighs just under 20 lbs, runs on batteries, and you can pick it up and stick it to any surface. All you have to do is place it close to the wall, give it a little push, and it will stick to the wall using Displace’s active loop vacuum technology.
According to Displace, you can link together multiple displays so you can create one very large TV that’s synced together. You can take four TVs to create an extra large 110-inch TV with 8K resolution or add 16 TVs to create a 220-inch TV with 16K resolution. Instead of needing to plug into an outlet for power, the Displace 4K OLED uses a hot-swappable battery system that offers up to 30 days of viewing on a single charge.

Panasonic TV
Last year’s Panasonic OLED TV has been a pretty popular choice for home theatre fans, and the newest Panasonic flagship is the MZ2000. Announced at the Panasonic press conference, the Panasonic MZ2000 is a 4K OLED Micro Lens Array TV in 77-inch, 65-inch, and 55-inch sizes. It has a state-of-the-art Master OLED Ultimate panel created with a multi-layer heat management configuration.
The Panasonic MZ2000 will offer 150% better peak brightness, HCX Pro AI process with Streaming 4K remaster algorithm, and VRR 120Hz refresh rate. For gamers it has ultra-low latency and input lag, and it features HDMI 2.1, AMD FreeSync and NVIDIA GSync compatibility.
Sony TV
Sony didn’t make any TV announcements at CES 2023 or during their CES 2023 press conference. Instead, Sony Electronics released a statement that said “Sony will not be sharing any TV details during CES 2023. However, please stay tuned for an upcoming announcement coming soon.”
