Battlefield 6

EA and Battlefield Studios just pulled the curtain back on Battlefield 6 with a brand-new multiplayer showcase. It officially kicks off the next chapter of the long-running series. Following Battlefield 2042, this new entry shifts away from all-out chaos and zero squads. It brings back tighter team-based combat, large-scale destruction, and a full single-player campaign.

Battlefield 6 officially launches October 10 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Battlefield 6 is also available now to pre-order at Best Buy Canada. Additionally, EA detailed the open beta schedule, new game modes, and returning features like the classic class system and revamped Portal mode. It’s the biggest push for the series in years, and there’s a lot to look forward to.

Gameplay that brings back all-out destruction and tactical freedom

Battlefield 6 brings the series back to large-scale, destructible warfare with tighter squad play and modern combat tools. The classic class system returns, with Assault, Recon, Support, and Engineer roles, each with signature weapons, gadgets, and training perks built for coordinated team fights.

Combat takes place across land, air, and sea. Jets, tanks, drones, and boots-on-the-ground infantry all play a role. Squad play is at the center of everything, with new movement mechanics like wall mounting and “drag and revive,” which lets you pull downed teammates to cover before bringing them back into the fight. Gunplay also gets an upgrade through the new Kinesthetic Combat System, designed to make movement, aiming, and weapon handling feel smoother and more responsive.

Destruction is bigger than ever. You can blow open new paths, tear through buildings, or level enemy positions in real time. Every map supports destructible cover and terrain changes that shift as matches progress, making each round feel dynamic and unpredictable.

Battlefield 6 multiplayer reveal sets the stage

The full multiplayer reveal for Battlefield 6 gave us a closer look at what to expect when the game launches this October. EA confirmed a mix of classic and new game modes, a full map lineup, and one of the largest open betas in the series’ history.

At launch, Battlefield 6 will include nine multiplayer maps, ranging from tight urban fights to large-scale battles in open terrain. Locations include Operation Firestorm, a remake of the Battlefield 3 favourite, and brand-new maps like Gibraltar, Tajikistan, and Empire State. Every map features dynamic destruction and supports different objectives and player counts.

Confirmed multiplayer modes include:

  • Conquest
  • Breakthrough
  • Rush
  • Team Deathmatch
  • Squad Deathmatch
  • Domination
  • King of the Hill
  • Escalation – a new mode focused on capturing control points across a changing frontline

Portal and labs add new ways to play

Battlefield 6 brings back Battlefield Portal with more tools, content, and customization than ever before. You’ll be able to create your own modes, rulesets, and loadouts using assets pulled from across the series. That includes weapons, vehicles, maps, and classes from multiple Battlefield games. Everything is editable through a streamlined creator system.

A new “Verified Mode” option lets you apply preset modifiers like one-shot kills, locked gadgets, and full XP gain. This makes it easier to build competitive or experimental matches with your friends or the community.

EA also introduced Battlefield Labs, a separate area for limited-time and experimental content. One teased mode showed a shrinking fire ring, similar to Firestorm from Battlefield V, suggesting a new battle royale-style experience is in the works. More details on Labs content will be revealed closer to launch.

Single-player campaign and Battlefield 6 development team

While multiplayer took center stage, the event also gave a look at Battlefield 6’s single-player campaign. Marking the series’ first since Battlefield V. Set in 2027, the story begins after a high-profile assassination fractures global alliances. NATO is weakened, and Pax Armata, a private military group armed with advanced tech, steps into the power vacuum.

You’ll play as Dagger 13, a squad of US Marine Raiders tasked with stabilizing NATO and taking on Pax Armata across global hotspots. The campaign will feature intense missions, multiple perspectives, and key characters like CIA agent Mills, blending cinematic action with squad-focused storytelling.

The game is being developed by Battlefield Studios, a unified team made up of DICE, Criterion, Motive Studio, and Ripple Effect. Led by Vince Zampella, Executive Vice President at EA and co-founder of Respawn, the team brings experience from Battlefield 2042, Dead Space, Star Wars Battlefront II, and Need for Speed.

Post-launch, Battlefield 6 will be supported with new maps, modes, weapons, and ongoing updates across both multiplayer and Portal. EA confirmed it’s being built as a long-term live-service title.
