Great toys hold a special place in our hearts. They create great experiences at the time we play with them. They also leave a treasured memory that we can look back on and smile as we get older. The coolest toys do something a little extra. Really cool toys unite a generation, and sometimes multiple generations. Many of the hottest toys these days are tech toys: robots, drones etc. Which tech toy of 2016 do you think will make the biggest impression in a child’s life, or in your life? Just tell us what you think the coolest toy of 2016 is and you might win a huge trove of the newest toys from Best Buy.

bb8Every year new toys are released that have the potential to become a child’s special treasure. Best Buy carries many of these. Best Buy also has the greatest selection of tech toys. Last year I fell in love with the Sphero BB-8 App-enabled  Droid. It’s the kind of toy that will resonate in a person’s memories for decades.

You may find it difficult to decide what the coolest toy is this year. It’s not always easy to predict what will be the best toy in a given year, but really there are no wrong answers. For example, I asked my wife which tech toy she remembers as having been really cool when she was young and her answer, the Fisher Price parking garage (shown below), really surprised me! Note that Best Buy carries a Melissa & Doug version of this parking garage. I too had one of those vintage Fisher Price garages when I was young and played with it incessantly. I hadn’t thought about that toy in many years, but just the mention of it brought back a ton of great memories.

Kids nowadays may not view a parking garage as a tech toy given the options that exist. The prizes in this contest contain many of the best tech toys available in 2016. We have divided the more than $12000 in prizes into 6 toys bundles:

  1. I definitely think the Parrot Mambo is one of the coolest tech toys this years. I’ve been eyeing it up for my son for Christmas 🙂

  2. I think the coolest toy is the electric scooter. Like what kid wouldn’t want a electric scooter. I would way cheaper on gas then my car lol. My favorite old time toys were POGS played them every lunch time at school in the library.

  5. The WowWee Chip Robo dog would be a big hit with my kiddo this year, she’s been asking for a pet, even though we have a real dog and two cats! My hubby would LOVE the Nintendo Classic! As children of the 80s Nintendo would be a big hit! When I was a little kid I had the Little Professor which was my FAVOURITE!!

  6. The best electronic toy I got for Christmas was when I was 8 or 9 and it was the trigger game.
    It made the beat Christmas because my brother in-law bet me $20 he could beat me. Well he knew I didn’t have that kind of money so in a way I think he let me win but I still believe I kicked his butt and collected my cash winnings.

  10. I don’t know if it is the coolest,but I love the robotic toys such as the Zoomer Kitty Interactive Robot Cat.

  12. My pick for the top tech toy of 2016 would have to be the Phantom 4 by DJI, but it’s not for children, so for the youngsters on santas christmas list i would suggest a Traxxas Slash, or Stampede for tech toy of 2016.

  13. at 64 there was not really anything like a tech toy the only thing I can think of was my very protable very pink record player for my 45’s

  14. Best gift I revived as a kid was also Nintendo
    I remember our vcr had a remote control but it had a cord connected to the TV hitachi lol

  15. I think that the electronics are so much cooler than when I was a kid. I love the way that everything has advanced. The remote control truck that I received for Christmas was so cool at the time, I actually wore a hole in the remote. It was the old Bigfoot 4×4. I was the coolest kid on the street.

  21. By far the coolest tech toy for 2016 available at best buy is the DJI Mavic Pro Quadcopter Drone with 4K UHD Camera! This is the coolest tech toy ever in my opinion. Folds compactly for ease of carrying compared to other drones. It is a wishlist item of mine not just for Christmas but any time. Not cheap but offers so much for its price!

  24. My best tech toy was tumbling tomboy, you are talking quite a few years back lol Now I have 4 young grandsons and 2 granddaughters. Let me tell you the technology has changed a lot since then

  26. Coolest tech toy I received when I was younger: Christmas 1978 – MATTEL, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA SPACE ALERT handheld game.

  28. As a child I was never into tech toys, always loved a doll or tea set but I do remember as a pre teen receiving my yellow Sony Walkman. Thought I was the coolest on my block!!!

  31. The coolest tech toy is the Electric Car; “Aosom Jaguar F Stype Electric Ride On Car Toy Kids Gift 12V Battery W/RC Lights, White”. It is designed to look like a jaguar convertible and has a 12v battery for great electric fun.

  33. I don’t consider them toys but I guess you could consider them toys for adults, the Phantom 4 by DJI would have my vote. Videos, pictures, or just flying around, you’re out in the fresh air having fun enjoying what god gave us!!!

  34. Furby Star Wars The Force Awakens Furbacca — this is the coolest furbaby, growing up my fav toy I received for Christmas was Etchy Sketch Board. remember those; think they still make them; you can create pictures, and to erase, shake it and it disappears.

  36. The best toy when I was young was colecovision. I played on that system for hours and hours with my little brother. Does anyone remember it?

  38. I think the coding toys are pretty neat, I’ve never had anything even close when I was younger. I feel that my son would really enjoy the toy especially the one showing on the article.

  39. The coolest toy I got as a child (been a while) was a doll
    who was a member of aa all-girl rock band that came with a record. The record was plastic, but actually played on a record player.

  43. I think the coding toys are the coolest. Computer programming surrounds our lives now and teaching children now will be very helpful to them. It is growing into a necessity.

  44. The coolest tech toys this year are the coding ones. I think that kids learning to code is a really cool idea that will enrich their learning. They want to spend all their tike on a computer, so this is something constructive. (I’m a teacher and use these already 🙂 . As for my kid toy… it had to be the NES.

  46. My daughters love the coding toys like sphero they use at school! The Stem toys are also cool. I like the drones, my daughters want to get one for the family.
