Great toys hold a special place in our hearts. They create great experiences at the time we play with them. They also leave a treasured memory that we can look back on and smile as we get older. The coolest toys do something a little extra. Really cool toys unite a generation, and sometimes multiple generations. Many of the hottest toys these days are tech toys: robots, drones etc. Which tech toy of 2016 do you think will make the biggest impression in a child’s life, or in your life? Just tell us what you think the coolest toy of 2016 is and you might win a huge trove of the newest toys from Best Buy.

bb8Every year new toys are released that have the potential to become a child’s special treasure. Best Buy carries many of these. Best Buy also has the greatest selection of tech toys. Last year I fell in love with the Sphero BB-8 App-enabled  Droid. It’s the kind of toy that will resonate in a person’s memories for decades.

You may find it difficult to decide what the coolest toy is this year. It’s not always easy to predict what will be the best toy in a given year, but really there are no wrong answers. For example, I asked my wife which tech toy she remembers as having been really cool when she was young and her answer, the Fisher Price parking garage (shown below), really surprised me! Note that Best Buy carries a Melissa & Doug version of this parking garage. I too had one of those vintage Fisher Price garages when I was young and played with it incessantly. I hadn’t thought about that toy in many years, but just the mention of it brought back a ton of great memories.

Kids nowadays may not view a parking garage as a tech toy given the options that exist. The prizes in this contest contain many of the best tech toys available in 2016. We have divided the more than $12000 in prizes into 6 toys bundles:

  3. I think the coolest toys this year are the drones, wish we would have these as kids ! Lots of entertainment for the whole family to share.

  4. I think the Paw Patrol Zoomer is one of the best toys this season!!! Very neat and for a child that is obsessed with Paw Patrol I’m sure it will be a huge hit!!!

  5. I think the coolest tech toy available at Best Buy in 2016 is the Yuneec Typhoon Q500 4K Quadcopter Drone with Camera & Controller!

  11. Based on what I think my grandson would rate highly, I’d pick the Sphero Spec Ed BB-8 Droid and Force Band. Star Wars anything, always a big hit.

  13. The electric scooter would be a huge hit here! There’s so many awesome tech toys at Best Buy.. I stopped in on Friday and got a phone case and looked through the kids tech stuff and got some great ideas of what my kids want for Christmas .. now to go back when they’re not with us!

  14. I have never received a high tech toy….which is why I enter this contest to win for my nieces who I want to have the opportunity to play and learn with one of these!

  17. My favorite technology gift was a Commodore VIC 20. I wrote a word processing program and used it in college. It also was a pretty advanced game console too. I’ve still got it!

    As for the best tech toy this year, I think the affordable drones are going to be hot items.

  21. I think the BB-8 toy is the coolest and my granddaughter would love it. Unfortunately I am a little old to have received a tech toy for Christmas, I do however remember receiving a toy truck that you could change one tire on and put on the spare. That left rear wheel position got a lot of work that year.

  23. Definitely one of the coolest things you have available are ANY of the telescopes! My son is getting into the stars and the moon and the planets. It would blow his mind to look through a telescope at them.

  24. The coolest tech toy I got as a kid was definitely when my parents got my brother and I our first PlayStation. We were obsessed, and, other than fighting over who got to play Megaman first, we had such a great time. They were so much smaller back then.

  27. My best toy was a doll with long hair that I could dye with markers of many colors and then wash it out after.

  28. While I’m definitely fascinated by the Protocol Galileo Stealth, I would have to admit that the coolest tech toy this year is the Sphere Special Edition BB-8 Droid. I mean come on, who doesn’t want to play at being the hero in a Star Wars film?

  29. This will really’ date me ‘but my best gift was a battery operated train set…it was awesome!!
    I think the coolest gift this season is the drone ( parrot mambo)..

  31. Ultimate Drone. No tech toys when I was a kid :(. Always wanted remote something but I am female so that did not fit the stereotype so I got dolls 🙁

  32. I think the Yuneec Typhoon Q500 4K is the coolest tech toy this season, and id love to have one so I could film my own landscape documentaries.

  36. My handicapped grandson would love the Parrot or anyone of the drones. He doesn’t have a tech toy so this would make a wonderful present for him.

  38. The coolest toy at Best Buy this year has to be any one of the Ultimate Drones! My son and husband would really love to get one of these for Christmas this year!

  41. The best tech toy I received was a Commodore 64 computer. The games were amusing and fun, two player option for when friends visited. It helped save many a rainy day. I think the best tech tech toys for today are the drones. It’s remote controlled, flies and has a camera to YouTube post. What child wouldn’t be thrilled to unwrap a drone Christmas morning.

  42. My favorite tech toy I received was the Atari game console. Back then there was only one tv and i had to beg mom and dad to play it.

  43. I think the WOWEE CODER MIP is super cool. I’d love to chase my cat around the living room with it. (and my cat would love it too)

  44. The coolest tech toy I received when I was growing up was a Commodore 64 computer. The games were fun and kept you entertained. I think the drones look like the coolest tech toy this year. What kid wouldn’t be thrilled to receive one of those. It’s the best of everything robotic, remote controlled, flies and has a camera for YouTube posting.

  46. As a kid my favorite tech toy I ever received for Christmas was probably my original NES console. Our whole family played that and had great fun!

  50. I think that the coolest gifts this year are the coding gifts! A gift that helps my son apply what he learns at camp! Love it!!
