Great toys hold a special place in our hearts. They create great experiences at the time we play with them. They also leave a treasured memory that we can look back on and smile as we get older. The coolest toys do something a little extra. Really cool toys unite a generation, and sometimes multiple generations. Many of the hottest toys these days are tech toys: robots, drones etc. Which tech toy of 2016 do you think will make the biggest impression in a child’s life, or in your life? Just tell us what you think the coolest toy of 2016 is and you might win a huge trove of the newest toys from Best Buy.

There are over $12000 in toys available to be won!

bb8Every year new toys are released that have the potential to become a child’s special treasure. Best Buy carries many of these. Best Buy also has the greatest selection of tech toys. Last year I fell in love with the Sphero BB-8 App-enabled  Droid. It’s the kind of toy that will resonate in a person’s memories for decades.

(Four of the new special edition version of this droid are included in this contest’s prizes!)

You may find it difficult to decide what the coolest toy is this year. It’s not always easy to predict what will be the best toy in a given year, but really there are no wrong answers. For example, I asked my wife which tech toy she remembers as having been really cool when she was young and her answer, the Fisher Price parking garage (shown below), really surprised me! Note that Best Buy carries a Melissa & Doug version of this parking garage. I too had one of those vintage Fisher Price garages when I was young and played with it incessantly. I hadn’t thought about that toy in many years, but just the mention of it brought back a ton of great memories.

Kids nowadays may not view a parking garage as a tech toy given the options that exist. The prizes in this contest contain many of the best tech toys available in 2016. We have divided the more than $12000 in prizes into 6 toys bundles:

  1. There were so many great tech toys growing up! I would have to say the best tech toy I ever get as a child was a Furby. I remember wanting one of those things so badly!

  2. My favourite tech toy when I was a child was those styrofoam gliders with rubber band motors! I remember taking them outside on a calm day and seeeing them fly for what seemed at the time forever.

  3. Definitely the Dji Mavic foldable drone for 2016!
The coolest toy I recieved in the mid 80’s was a 200 in one electronic lab. Complete with all the parts wires amd spring loaded connection terminals to complete your own state of the art circuts – All pale in comparison to the most basic wrist watch calculator now. I’ll go for a Dji foldable Mavic this time around and see what the view at the top is like. 30 years from now look back and reminisce about this pivotal moment….

  4. The best toy of 2016 would be the osmo! I think it’s such a great way to add a tangible physical aspect to a child game. The amount of Screen time My kids get is something I monitor very closely so having toys like the osmo are great because I know my child is interacting and manipulating things and exercising their problem solving skills in a real way!

  5. The best tech toy that I received as a child was a Tyco slot racing set. I was fascinated by how the headlights came on especially the streaks of light as they whipped around the track at night! It became much more fun as I added things like an 18-wheeler and a police car with lights and sound to my car collection! Of course toys today are much cooler especially the ones that teach our young ones and are fun at the same time!!

  6. The coolest new tech toy is the BB-8 droid. Prepping our kids for a world where humans and robots will co-exist in regular life.

  7. I think the LeapFrog LeapPad Platinum Learning Tablet is a great choice for the younger children. It’s very educational and prepares them in a positive way for dealing with teenage and adult “tech” stuff in the future.

  8. The coolest tech toy I got when I was young was a hand held Mattel Electronics football game. Played that thing for hours on end.

  9. When are was a youngster I got this Bugs Bunny toy that had a string that you pulled coming from his back that would make him “talk”. Loved it. What’s up Doc lol. Tech has come a long way since then.

  10. i like the tech toys because i am a tech geek and i like these kind of toys i have been collecting them for sometime now and always look for new toys and i love how affordable they are. this makes me happy that everyone can enjoy them. i have a niece and nephew that would be really interested in these to make their christmas since it has been pretty rough for all us this past christmas

  11. My favourite tech toy from my childhood, given that I’m 62 years old, would be my Chatty Cathy doll. A doll that ‘talked’ when you pulled the pull string on her back. She repeated such phrases as “I’m hungry” or “I love you.” Cutting edge stuff at the time. lol. 🙂

  12. I’ve got my eye on your Sphero BB-8 App-enabled Droid. I’m not sure who will have more fun with it — me or my Star Wars-loving kids!

  13. I know my kids would enjoy all of these things but what they would love the most and benefit the most from are the coding toys. My son would enjoy the WOWEEE CODER MIP and my girls would enjoy the OSMO GENIUS KIT.

As a child, I wasn’t really into the tech toys like my brothers were so in my house we had the NINTENDO and ATARI gaming systems.

    Thank you

  14. I would love the robotic toys or coding toys for my kids. #BestBuy is my kids favourite store. Or the hoover Board

  15. I think the drones (any of them) are a pretty cool tech toy that my kids would enjoy. Probably my husband too!

  16. The coolest tech toy I received when I was younger, was one of the first robotic techno dogs. I can’t remember the exact name but it was all grey and came with a grey bone to eat. I remember being so excited when I opened it for Christmas!

  17. The coolest toy from when I was small really was the parking garage, I still have mine for my little guy to play with.
