Great toys hold a special place in our hearts. They create great experiences at the time we play with them. They also leave a treasured memory that we can look back on and smile as we get older. The coolest toys do something a little extra. Really cool toys unite a generation, and sometimes multiple generations. Many of the hottest toys these days are tech toys: robots, drones etc. Which tech toy of 2016 do you think will make the biggest impression in a child’s life, or in your life? Just tell us what you think the coolest toy of 2016 is and you might win a huge trove of the newest toys from Best Buy.

There are over $12000 in toys available to be won!

bb8Every year new toys are released that have the potential to become a child’s special treasure. Best Buy carries many of these. Best Buy also has the greatest selection of tech toys. Last year I fell in love with the Sphero BB-8 App-enabled  Droid. It’s the kind of toy that will resonate in a person’s memories for decades.

(Four of the new special edition version of this droid are included in this contest’s prizes!)

You may find it difficult to decide what the coolest toy is this year. It’s not always easy to predict what will be the best toy in a given year, but really there are no wrong answers. For example, I asked my wife which tech toy she remembers as having been really cool when she was young and her answer, the Fisher Price parking garage (shown below), really surprised me! Note that Best Buy carries a Melissa & Doug version of this parking garage. I too had one of those vintage Fisher Price garages when I was young and played with it incessantly. I hadn’t thought about that toy in many years, but just the mention of it brought back a ton of great memories.

Kids nowadays may not view a parking garage as a tech toy given the options that exist. The prizes in this contest contain many of the best tech toys available in 2016. We have divided the more than $12000 in prizes into 6 toys bundles:

  1. I would have to agree with the car garage toy since my son is fascinated with anything that drives.( not sure if that applies to a tech toy) However he is begging for a remote control truck and spends his only occupied time on parking and lining up his cars. My daughter is a year older and would think the robot is the best toy, I’m sure. Both would be shocked and grateful if they recieved a toy of such extravagance.
I myself was thrilled to recieve a Nintendo at 13 years old.
    Thank you

  2. My kids have all but the pizza kit for the OSMO. I had no idea what a hit it would be for a wide range of ages, until I introduced it to my 3 kids. They love to learn on it as it’s always fun and entertaining, and continues to challenge them as they progress through the levels. The adults love it too!

  3. The coolest toy at best buy has to be Sphero BB-8 App-enabled Droid. I would have loved this as a kid. Heck I think if have fun with it now more then my own kids lol

  4. The coolest tech toy I received as a kid in the late 80s was an Alphie II robot that taught me words, letters etc. I wish I still had that thing. It was SO cool!!

  5. growing up, I also had the Fisher price garage… I played with it all the time. long after it was age appropriate and my mom threw it out….
I tried looking for one for my son and was sad to see the newer parking garages do not have the elevator.
(but will defiantly pick up the melissa and doug one).

  6. I absolutely LOVE the Sphero BB-8 App-enabled Droid and I think it’s the best toy of 2016 hands down! Huge Star Wars fan here!

  7. I think robotic Marshall paw patrol dog my daughter would love him .. That would make this her best Christmas ever .. Any other one would be cool too.

  8. The coolest tech toy is the Fisher Price Code-a-Pillar, I’ve never seen anything like that and it’s a neat learning experience

  9. This is a tough one! Coming from an educational background I would have to say I’m divided between the Sphero Spk & Osmo. The Sphero Sprk is amazing for engaging its user to create and build through programming(great stem learning!). Osmo is a great way to integrate both tech and kinesthetic activity to engage its learner! How wonderful it would be to have these available in the classroom for learning opportunities!

  10. The best tech toy’s are the Traxxas rc cars, I never owned one until recently. My daughter and myself spend hours playing with the truck, definitely a toy for bonding

  11. The coolest toy I got for Xmas one year was this toy called metal molder, where it would melt metal into figurines

  12. My favourite tech toy as a kid was my microscope. I loved getting a glimpse of the tiny world going on all around us!

  13. The coolest Best Buy tech toy of 2016 has got to be one of the 4K drones. I love photography and it’s exciting thinking of the possibilities with a great camera on a drone. The changing seasons would be spectacular.

  14. The coolest tech toy I received as a child would have to be Frogger personal arcade (embarrassing… that’s how old I am!)

  15. Back then we didnt had the luxuries of technology that we have today. So when i was kid we use to play outside more with friends. But i remeber i got i video game when i was young and that was old-fashioned mario cassete video game. For me that was my best tech toy i got.

  16. When I was a kid, the best thing I had was a little dog that barks and made back flips. I was able to make him walk behind me with a leash.

  17. Coolest tech toy I recieved when I was a kid was my Super Nintendo. Literally played it 10 hours a day for 5 years!

  18. The coolest toy in bestbuy for the 2016 season has to be the drones hands down I wish I could afford one but maybe one day or win one that would be the greatest gift of all time but when I was younger I would have to say when I got a Nintendo for sure was the coolest gift I got when I was younger I remember opening that system up and right away getting it hooked up then like a few hours later opening the rest of my gifts thank you best buy for the opportunity to win something cool this year really appreciate it good luck to all the contestants have a good day

  19. I think the drones are pretty awesome! When I was younger I remember having this doll that could record voices. My sister and I spent hours recording ourselves singing the “if I had a million dollars song” đŸ˜›

  20. The coolest tech toy I ever got? The first generation Game Boy when they first came out. My brother and I got a pack that had even the cable to connect both Game Boys and play together. Oh, the good old days.
