Musical instruments contest prizesFrom dusk until dawn music is in my life all day, every day. And judging by the number of people proudly sharing their Spotify Wrapped 2021 stories on social media, I’m not the only one. Grooving to music is one of the simple pleasures in life, but have you ever thought of taking your passion further by learning how to play a musical instrument yourself? We’ve partnered with Alesis and Jasmine to give away not one but four musical instruments including a keyboard, drums, and guitars, so you can start living your music dreams, or give the gift of music to the aspiring Mozart in your life.

Why learn to play an instrument

The benefits of learning how to play an instrument go far beyond the satisfaction of being able to play your favourite songs. I learned how to play the violin and piano as a kid and, although I rarely get the opportunity to play anymore, I don’t think I would be the same person today without them. There are many studies out there exploring how playing an instrument has a positive impact on both your physical and mental health and abilities, but I’ll share why I think you should learn to play an instrument from my own experience.

Full-body workout for your brain

Playing a musical instrument is not only fun, but it also benefits your brain. When you play, multiple areas of your cerebrum are simultaneously activated—most notably the visual, auditory, and motor areas. This strengthens brain functions and might lead to long-term benefits. Think of your daily practice as the equivalent of a full-body workout such as swimming, but for your brain.

Increases discipline

When it comes to playing music, practice makes perfect. Unless you’re a prodigy, learning a musical instrument takes time, dedication, and effort. Besides learning how to read music, you also have to keep practicing to hit the right notes with your violin, perfect strumming patterns with your guitar, or improve timing with your drums. The self-discipline you will gain through practicing will shine through other areas of your life and help you achieve other goals.

Playing an instrument is fun

Although playing an instrument might be beneficial for your brain and may teach you discipline, at its core, it’s just fun, and I think a great hobby to have! It will make you have a greater music appreciation, and you’ll be able to entertain your friends when they come over and inevitably ask you to play something for them. So if you’ve always wanted to learn how to play the piano, guitar, or drums, enter this contest today for a chance to discover a new passion.
