I can see the new line of routers from ASUS becoming the most desired technology of 2019. Canadians aren’t known to get overly excited about routers and home networking. So long as things keep chugging along, there’s nothing to see here. But that’s going to change this year. Smart home technology, the smartphones we all carry, tablets, PCs and streaming music services all take an increasing toll on Wi-Fi bandwidth. Gaming demands are intense and set to become far more intense with new game streaming services. Add the real bandwidth destroyer—streaming video—and those old ac routers can begin slowing to a crawl.   6. It’s not so much what is hogging the bandwidth, and more so WHO is hogging it! My partner downloads games, streams movies, and plays games and they slow the internet down so much!     I was looking for a new router, because the one I got with my ISP is very basic, and apparently can’t handle buffering 4K content while doing ANYTHING else. I’ve been looking at netgear or asus routers but the good ones are quite expensive.

    So to answer your question, the bandwidth hogging technology in my home that will benefit the most from one of the new ASUS routers is my 4K smart TV while using netflix, and my gaming pc when trying to play games like apex legends. Goodluck all!

A lot of games they play take up a lot of bandwidth and at times too much that we all have problems with being online together.     – FaceTime a friend on their hand-me down iphone

  38. I am running on 5Ghz 802.11ac but it still cannot stream 4K videos in a stable manner, especially ones with 5.1 soundtracks. I need 802.11ax for this to happen!

    The fact that 5Gz is becoming mainstream, there are also more and more interference nowadays.
