Surface was once Microsoft’s reference device for their then-new Windows 8 operating system. The company wanted to show just how innovative their software would be when used in premium hardware.

Surface is now a billion-dollar business unit inside Microsoft and not only do we have a family of Surface products ranging from Surface Studio, to the classic 2-in-1 Surface Pro.  There are also now other Surface devices and accessories available. Let’s look at the latest releases.

Surface Pro 6

The newest Surface Pro 2-in-1 is the recognizable and iconic Surface Pro 6.

This still maintains the familiar Surface Pro design we’re familiar with since Surface Pro 3 but with refinements all around.

Microsoft has made the Surface Pro 6 more powerful with quad-core 8th Generation Intel Core i5 and i7 processors in the same thin and light tablet-first design.

Surface Pro 6 also introduces a return to a black colour which makes for a stealthier, more tactical looking 2-in-1. Microsoft also offers storage ranging from 128 GB to 1 Terabyte of fast SSD (Solid State Drive) storage and up to 16 GB of RAM.

This puts workstation-class performance into what is an exceptional mobile computing device.

Surface Laptop 2

One of the most mystifying products in Microsoft’s Surface brand is the Surface Laptop which is a bona fide ultrabook.

The Laptop 2 features a great keyboard, stunning touchscreen, and a unique Alcantara leather keyboard.

The latest Surface Laptop 2, also available in black, now also gets a spec bump with the 8th generation Intel processors. Microsoft says these are 85 percent more powerful than previous processors.

With the Microsoft Surface Laptop 2. Featuring an 8th generation Intel Core processor, this ultra-slim laptop is ready to perform when you are. A highly intuitive 13.5″ PixelSense touchscreen and Windows 10 Home operating system make the Surface Laptop 2 a joy to work with.

The Surface Laptop 2 has a 13-hour battery life. If you like the Surface design but are primarily a laptop users who rarely requires a touchscreen, this is a great option in the premium space.

Surface Studio 2

The Surface Studio is a remarkable all-in-1 pc with a 28-inch display which can be articulated in various angles for drawing or multi-touch. I think it is the most ambitious PC from Microsoft. Surface Studio is an exceptional tool for creatives and artists.

One issue many took with the original Surface Studio was that it was underpowered. That’s no longer the case with the Surface Studio 2.

Powerful Intel Core i7 processors and NVIDIA graphics now make this a formidable desktop solution. Not only is it a great desktop for drawing and graphic design, it is now a viable options for animation and video editing.

Accessories

People forget how impressive Microsoft’s keyboards and mice are. The company has been perfecting these for years. Now, the company has moved beyond.

Microsoft now makes a number of accessories. They have Surface mice, the impressive Surface Dial, Surface Pen and now they have even created Surface headphones with  impressive noise isolation functionality.

The Surface Headphones are not yet available in Canada, but the other Surface accessories are all available. Depending on the type of work you do, Surface accessories  are designed to work best with the Surface computers and Windows 10.
