Until Dawn 2 now has a January 28, 2027 release date, Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance got a much deeper look, and PlayStation unveiled two GTA VI Limited Edition DualSense controllers. We also finally know Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches April 8, 2027.

Ghost of Yōtei expands with Most Wanted and Echoes of Sekigahara

Platforms: PS5
Release date: October 1, 2026
Ghost of Yōtei appeared in both broadcasts with new details on the content coming to its October 1, 2026 Complete Edition. The regular State of Play focused on Most Wanted. This new single-player combat survival mode is built around waves of enemies and new boss encounters.
Most Wanted includes Atsu, Oyuki, Nagato, and Jin Sakai as playable characters. Jin brings his familiar Ghost of Tsushima stances and abilities into the mode. Cosmetics earned through Most Wanted also unlock in the main game.
State of Play Japan then shifted to Echoes of Sekigahara. The story expansion connects to Atsu’s past and the Battle of Sekigahara. The presentation included a new trailer and an interview with Atsu’s Japanese voice actor, Fairouz Ai, about returning to the role.
Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition launches October 1, 2026. Existing owners can access the new content through the Complete Edition upgrade. A free update also adds Beauty of Yōtei, new Watanabe Mode music, armour appearance options, and a high-contrast accessibility setting.
Final Fantasy Resonance gets a PS5 demo ahead of release

Platforms: PS5
Release date: October 22, 2026
Final Fantasy Resonance launches October 22, 2026. PlayStation also announced that a free PS5 demo is available now, giving you a chance to try it before release. The demo includes the entire first chapter, and save data carries into the full game.
The new trailer also revealed Sephiroth in the game’s HD-2D world. He appears as a special challenge tied to the Visions system. Defeating him unlocks a special reward.
Combat uses turn-based commands alongside the Stagger Gauge, Visions, Resonance attacks, and Espers. It looks like a modern spin on classic Final Fantasy ideas rather than a remake of an older entry.
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World comes to PS5 in December

Platforms: PS5
Release date: December 3, 2026
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World is coming to PS5 on December 3, 2026. The State of Play Japan trailer followed Bianca and Nera as young Monster Wranglers in a mysterious alternate world. Along the way, they build a team of familiar Dragon Quest creatures.
The core loop is built around befriending monsters, raising them, and using synthesis to create new combinations. It’s a new Dragon Quest Monsters RPG with a new story and cast.
Until Dawn 2 launches January 28, 2027

Platforms: PS5
Release date: January 28, 2027
Until Dawn 2 now has a release date. Firesprite’s horror sequel comes to PS5 on January 28, 2027. The new trailer brought the Dead True ghost-hunting crew back to Blackwood Sanatorium, then sent them to Akishima Island.
Choices still play a major role, with your decisions affecting where characters go, what they discover, and who survives. Firesprite is working with AdHoc Studio, the team behind Dispatch, on the story.
Fate/Extra Record returns January 28, 2027

Platforms: PS5
Release date: January 28, 2027
Fate/Extra Record launches worldwide on January 28, 2027. The 2010 Fate/Extra RPG returns as a full remake with expanded story content and an updated presentation. Combat now uses a deck-building Command Card system.
You’ll form a contract with Saber, Archer, or Caster. New cards and abilities become available as that bond develops. The Moon Holy Grail War remains at the centre of the story, but the gameplay has been substantially reworked.
Metro 2039 launches February 4, 2027

Platforms: PS5
Release date: February 4, 2027
Metro 2039 brought its first console gameplay to State of Play and confirmed a February 4, 2027 release date. The footage was captured on PS5 Pro at 4K and 60 frames per second with ray tracing. It followed the Stranger through the ruins of post-apocalyptic Moscow.
4A Games is again mixing exploration, survival, stealth, and combat. At launch, PS5 and PS5 Pro will include a Performance Mode targeting 4K at 60 fps with ray tracing.
Gundam Rogue Orbit launches March 5, 2027

Platforms: PS5
Release date: March 5, 2027
Gundam Rogue Orbit appeared in both broadcasts. State of Play confirmed its March 5, 2027 release date, while State of Play Japan went deeper into how you can customize your Mobile Suit.
Weapons have different actions and skills, while Tactical Skills add powerful attacks. Parts also affect durability and movement. Thrusters can favour horizontal movement or more vertical boosting, depending on the setup.
You can customize the look of your Mobile Suit too. Colours can be changed across different parts of the Mobile Suit. MOD Skins can also completely change its appearance without affecting stats, with the RX-78-2 Gundam shown as one example.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches April 8, 2027

Platforms: PS5
Release date: April 8, 2027
Final Fantasy VII Revelation closed the regular State of Play with the news I had been waiting for. The final chapter of Square Enix’s remake trilogy launches April 8, 2027. The extended presentation also showed much more of how the world opens up this time.
The Highwind can be used to explore from the air. Piko returns as both a chocobo mount and a combat ally with progression of its own. You can also switch the controlled party member while exploring. The grappling gun opens new routes through environments.
Some quests let you choose which party member comes along. That choice can change parts of the story and what happens during the quest. Queen’s Blood is back too, with a larger storyline centred on Red XIII and new opponent mechanics.
With an April 8, 2027 release date, we now know exactly when Square Enix plans to close out the remake trilogy.
Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance takes the hunt into the skies

Platforms: PS5
Release date: 2027
Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance got a deeper look across both broadcasts. The regular State of Play debuted a new trailer for the expansion. State of Play Japan then brought producer Ryozo Tsujimoto in for a closer look.
The new Skybound Eyrie area sits high above the Forbidden Lands. Seikret traversal and rising air currents create more vertical movement through the environment. New monster Araketa hunts in packs, while the Elder Dragon Gundoraja joins returning threats including Lao-Shan Lung.
Ascendance also adds Boost Actions across all 14 weapon types. These temporary enhancements expand attack options and mobility. Capcom plans to have the expansion playable at Tokyo Game Show 2026 with an Araketa hunt. A separate high-difficulty quest will feature a returning monster that Capcom plans to reveal on September 16, 2026.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 adds Android race as Maneater 2 returns

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 opened State of Play Japan with another look at its 2027 adventure. Character creation now includes six races. Android joins Earthling, Saiyan, Namekian, Frieza Race, and Majin. The game is set in Age 1000 and lets you build a fighting style around techniques from Dragon Ball heroes.
Maneater 2 is bringing the shark action RPG back in 2027, including a PS5 version. This time the hunt moves to Neptune’s Kingdom, an ultra-luxury private island theme park. The sequel once again puts you in control of a bull shark that grows more powerful as you explore the environment.
LEGO and PlayStation also unveiled a 1,911-piece replica of the original PlayStation console and controller. The set is close to 1:1 scale and includes small Gran Turismo and Ape Escape dioramas, which is a nice touch for longtime PlayStation fans.
Marvel’s Wolverine received a new launch trailer ahead of its September 15, 2026 PS5 release. The footage included more of Logan’s interactions with Jean Grey and members of Team X. We also got another look at some of the enemies waiting for him.
Konami introduced Rhapsody in Scarlet, a new action-adventure game set in 1920s New York. It mixes jazz, magic, and beast companions. State of Play Japan followed the first trailer with a story-focused look and a developer interview.
Gran Turismo 7 is getting a two-part Spec IV update later this year. The October and December 2026 updates will add two circuits and 12 cars. Online Drift Trials, Shuffle Races, Family Mode, and other additions are also planned.
Final thoughts on State of Play and State of Play Japan
Between the two broadcasts, PlayStation gave us a good mix of games arriving soon and larger releases stretching into 2027. Until Dawn 2 finally has a date, and Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance looks like a serious expansion. I’m also curious to see how Gundam Rogue Orbit feels once all that Mobile Suit customization is in my hands.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation was still the moment I was waiting for most. Seeing the Highwind open up the world made the final chapter feel much closer now that we have an April 8, 2027 release date.
There’s plenty more coming from PlayStation and studios across Japan and Asia over the next year. Which State of Play or State of Play Japan announcement are you most excited about?
