Video gaming keeps growing. The major consoles have been out for a while now and game developers continue to bring out more action, stunning details, and incredible gameplay in the newest games this year. We expect some amazing announcements this June as we celebrate gaming with Play at Best Buy. Follow us as we cover the biggest announcements and preorders in the gaming industry. You can learn about all the gaming news in our articles and preorder many of the games soon after they are announced (or learn when preorders begin). And like every year in June, Play at Best Buy will include a huge gaming contest!
Innovation and nostalgia make gaming better every year
The gaming world is constantly adapting and building on its previous successes. Each new game is an iteration on the programming, animation, videography, and sound design that came before to bring an immersive blend of storytelling, interactive entertainment, and competition. This year we have already seen amazing games, including Star Wars: Jedi Survivor by Respawn and EA games. And Nintendo just released the highly anticipated: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Fans have been waiting for years to play this game and many are already calling it the game of the year.
Both of those titles bring a healthy dose of nostalgia with new game play features that stretch the limits of technology. We expect to see more of this trend in many of the gaming announcements over the rest of this year, especially from now to the end of June. Be on the lookout for several more reboots and sequels. Additionally, watch for potential future franchise games in the many indy titles vying for our attention.
Prizes are huge part of Play at Best Buy
The announcements started early this year with the PlayStation Showcase on May 24th. How to enter
Entering this contest will be fun and you can enter in three different ways:
- In a comment below: tell us the name of a game you played in the past that you think should be redone soon. A valid entry must include all three of these parts: 1. what console you played it on; 2. what changes you suggest would make a new version exciting; and 3. on which console would you like to try this new version of the game.
- Social post: For two additional entries, create a public post on a social media channel sharing with your friends and followers that you are entering the Play at Best Buy blog contest. Let your friends know which prize package you are hoping to win and what new game you will play first if you do win; include the hashtag #PlayatBestBuyContest, so we can find your post, and include a picture from this contest page. Then return here and tell us in a comment below on which channel you posted it and the name of your channel (since many people use pseudonyms) so that we can check and verify your entry. You can use any social media channel (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.), but the post must be public so we can verify it is there.
- Email a photo: If you visit any Best Buy store, take a picture with your smartphone of the gaming section in a store showing several of the games available that you love to play. Then in an email to bestbuyblog@bestbuycanada.ca with the subject line “Play at Best Buy Contest” tell us the location of the store (city, street) and attach the picture.
What you can win
At the end of the contest, we will randomly select six (6) winners from all eligible entries. These winners will be randomly assigned to the six prize packages shown above so each winner will get one of those six prize packages.
This contest runs from May 31st to June 30th.
Remember you can enter up to four times as mentioned above. Perhaps you’ve been trying to win a prize in a Best Buy Canada contest for many years and just have not been lucky. Hedge your bet by telling all of your friends and family that you really need their support for this amazing contest. They’ll likely be happy to enter this contest too. If they win, I’m sure they’ll share the prize with you.
Win a Play at Best Buy gaming prize
Good luck.
Would love to see a remake of the PS1 classic, Tenchu! Had a great time playing that as a kid, would love to see it remade for PS5.
I’d love to see Freelancer remade. It was a great sci-fi space combat simulator. A solid story mode with a lot of room for free exploration. I’d love to see new ships, maybe the option to control some bigger ships. I think PC is probably best. It could be good on Xbox or PlayStation.
I loved the game spore as a kid. I used to make wacky creatures all the time, and I’d love a remake of that game for newer systems like the PS5.
Played Bloodborne on PS4. It really needs a 60fps unlocking and some visual upgrade for current gen. I wish I could play it in PS5
1. Console I played on: PS4 base
2. Loved the gameplay but it would really benefit from 60fps unlocked and a visual uplift (if the PS5 adaptive triggers were used smartly, it would be a home run right away!!!
3. Console for new version: PS5!!!!
Dreaming is free, right?
Star Wars: Forced Unleashed. (Such a great story line)
I played that on xbox 360.
it would be possible to update the graphics maybe add a few new chapters. Maybe a tie in with Last Jedi.
Definitely would be nice to play on updated consoles, Xbox Series X, specifically.
DEADPOOL. I played that on Xbox 360. It was such a fun game.
I think they can easily make it an open world concept with pick a choose various mercenary side missions. Upgradable armour, weapons and effects. Of course it should have a mature rating. To be honest I am still shocked they haven’t made a sequel or anything, especially with the success of the movies.
I know Sony/Disney owns the rights but I would like it on Xbox Series X. But all platforms would do.
My fave game of all time is Chrono Trigger. I played it originally on the SNES. I really just want a full HD remaster with new cut scenes and cinematics, but no changes to mechanics or story. It is perfect. It would be great on Xbox, but a mobile version on switch would be awesome!
Definitely the original Last of Us on PS3. That game was a technological and narrative masterclass. If I had to change one thing though, I’d definitely add more story elements and a little less high-octane action. As for the future, I’d love to see the remake on PS5 or even if they decided to remake Last of us 2
Mario party on wii was fun but would love to see more exciting challenges, better graphics, more family fun! On any system
I think Ape Escape for the original PlayStation is long overdue for a remake. It would be so much fun if they made it for the PlayStation 5 VR. The original was so creative with how the new dual shock controller could be used, I’d love to see that applied to VR now! Swinging your arms around wildly to catch monkeys would be so much fun!
I played bloodborne on the ps4, and I really think it deserves a remake. Although with a few technical issues, it is still a fantastic game. As of right now, the ps5 version of the game does not exist, so the only way to play on the ps5 is to use the ps4 disk. This game is also playstation exclusive, which disappoints a lot of pc players. A remastered version would be great, and hopefully it will be on more platforms.
Hear me out: the original Halo:CE…on PS5…in VR. It would be just a totally new way to experience the nostalgia.
Played Metal Gear Solid on the original PlayStation, but the graphics could be updated, and the controls more current gen style. And i’d love it on the PS5
I loved playing Bully on ps2. It nailed the student life aspect with all the different characters and personalities. The relationships and struggles that are shown in the game happen in real life. Overall the gameplay was 10/10! I really wish for Rockstar Games to make a sequel on it for the next gen consoles. They can really do wonders using the Unreal Engine 5 and add so many latest features that are relatable in real life. They are already doing an amazing job at making GTA 6 according to the rumors and reports so I can only imagine what all they can do with a Bully sequel.
The original Medal of Honor on the PS1 was great. It could be improved with large maps and the modern game as a service model like Fortnite. A map builder/editor would be a great addition. This would ad replay value. IT would be great on the Xbox Series X, PS5 and Windows PC.
My favourite game was the Cool Borders series for the original Playstation, in particular Cool Borders 2. It was just a simple but fun snowboarding game that challenged you to land tricks but also to race down the slopes quickly. The game had plenty of unlockables to figure out, and plenty of “secret” passages to get down the hill fast.
Obviously, an updated game should feature improved graphics, but not “clutter” the game with overly complicated controls. New levels to conquer would be great.
As an Xbox Series X owner, I would love to add the game to the Xbox lineup – but would also love to add a PS5 to my console collection.
The Simpsons Hit & Run was my favorite moment in gaming as I was such a big Simpsons guy during high school. If they can remake this in glorious 4K 60FPS and 4K textures would be amazing. Straight into my veins…………I would play it PS5 or XSX or Switch. Doesn’t matter where it comes out. Heck I’ll play it on my gameboy micro. hahahah.
FIFA would be great to remake. and i miss Need for speed
I was playing FIFA 17 on my Xbox 360 with my little bro recently. Would love to try the latest fifa, perhaps 2023 on the Xbox one.
I played Mario Kart 8 on the Nintendo Switch and it should be redone soon with longer and more challenging maps and more varied items to make the game more interesting. I would like to try the new version of the game on the Nintendo Switch.
Young Dilbert Hi-Tech Hijink on Windows 95. Redo with updating the technology shown and better voice overs. I’d like to see it on Nintendo Switch.
I played Spider-man:miles morales on my PS4 pro which I bought from marketplace. It was my dream to own a PlayStation and Spider man is my favorite superhero. So when I bought the PS4 I downloaded the Spider man game first and the gaming experience was so thrilling. The haptic feedback and the microphone within the controller was an awesome experience and that was an awesome experience for me. I didn’t knew that PS4 had these features and it’s surprised me. I want to play the same spiderman miles morales game on the PS5 which is the best gaming platform in my personal opinion. And I wish I could try the Spider-man: Miles Morales VR❤️. I didn’t used a VR before and I wish I could get a PS VR to expand my gaming experience as well as to learn new innovations and creativities.
Call of duty black ops 1. First call of duty game I ever played on the Xbox 360. I’d love to see that game with updated graphics and seeing it on ps5 would be amazing
A game that I’ve played in that past that should be redone is Mario Party 6 on the Nintendo GameCube. It should be redone on the Nintendo Switch with new changes like motion controls and online play.
Jade empire would make a great game for a sequel or remaster, i played the original xbox version on my xbox one recently, and it is still quite fun, but could definitely benefit from smoother graphics and more fleshed out open worlds common to modern games like the witcher wild hunt. It also fills a unique niche, a martial arts rpg with rich story and mystical elements. A game like this would be great on xbox series x or ps5.
Pokemon Black 2 on the Nintendo DS. I would like to see this game redone on the Nintendo Switch so I can relive my favourite game in 3D and play it on the big screen.
I remember playing Megan legends for the ps1 and it got me into the other games, so a remake of that would be awesome. Maybe change it so you can become blue after becoming dark Megan. Remade for any console would be great.
I think that donkey Kong 64 for the nintendo 64 should be remastered, I think updated graphics and sounds could make it more fun and exciting and possibly additional content that’s new. I would love to play it on the nintendo switch since it was nintendo originally.
One of the funnest games of all time was Mario party on N64. This game is a must remake for Nintendo!! You can never get tiered of it, and it’s fun for all ages! Literally! They could make 10 more versions and I would play them all!! They could add any pokemon or unused Mario characters to the game, and adding online play would be totally amazing!! A great way to play with family and friends anywhere! And this would have to be played on the Nintendo switch of course!
It would be awesome to play a remake of Need for speed underground 2 with some better graphics a bigger map and more car customisation. Used to love playing it on my play station 2.
I played The Simpsons: Hit & Run on the PlayStation 2 probably when I was 6 or 7. I didn’t understand the humor or know The Simpson was a show at the time but enjoyed the game because it was just so much fun. I never finished the game because some parts were too difficult for me at the time and my disc got scratched. Changes to make the game more exciting would be improved graphics and revamped controls, changing the difficulty of some missions since some missions were almost impossible, and adding new content from modern Simpsons it has been 20 years since the game came out. I would like the game to come out on all the current-gen consoles but would be most excited to play it on PC since I play most of my games on PC now.

One of my favourite games from the PlayStation 1 was Sled Storm. It had an amazing sound track, great upgrade characteristics, interesting courses and you could couch play really well. I’d love to see a remake for PS5 with modern sleds, new tricks added, remastered versions of the old courses and some new ones too.
One game that I think should be redone soon is Fuzion Frenzy! It was a childhood favourite, I’d play it on the Xbox with my siblings growing up. I think it would be fun to play on newer Xbox consoles, on PC, or maybe even Nintendo Switch. Some changes that I think would make it more exciting is if they included an online multiplayer mode, more varieties of games including the classics, and the option for character customization / cosmetics. I think a battle pass feature could be interesting too, where you can get rewards from playing and winning games.
I’d love to see a new mega man legends game. Either a remake or even a new story! I played it on the original PlayStation. I’d really like to see something like this come to game pass or the ps5. Maybe even a VR version would be nice to see. I just wanted updated graphics and a larger world to explore. There really haven’t been too many open world mega man titles and it’s one I think of often.
I’d love to see a new mega man legends game. Either a remake or even a new story!
I would like to see them remake Syphon Filter. It was the first game I had owned and played on Sony Playstation 1. It was my first gaming system. I would like to play it on the Sony Playstation 5. I don’t think many changes would need to be made to the game. It is a classic in my eyes. I’m sure there are a few bugs that could be fixed and obviously have newer and better graphics. I would definitely like to try it on the PS5.
Since the Dead Space remake was such a hit, it’s time to remake Dead Space 2 next. I played it on the PS3 originally, and would love to replay it on the PS5 with the updated graphics, lighting, and level structure that they brought to the Dead Space remake.
I remember enjoying playing Starfox on Super Nintendo. To make it more modern, it could have some RPG mechanics and add an ability to upgrade your spaceship in an open world concept. It would be fun to try it on Meta Quest 2 VR.
I recently played through the original Splatterhouse games (the first one on the TurboGrafx-16, and the second & third games on the SEGA Genesis). I would love to see a remake compilation of these games, ideally in a more graphically robust rendering, and with more weapons and items available; the bosses are so cool, and the different stages would lend well to more detailed depictions for an even creepier atmosphere. I’d love to be able to play a game like this on the Xbox Series X (which I really hope to win through this contest!)
Call me old, but I loved my Commdor 64, and played the 4×4 Off-Road Racing. A remake of that in 3D on the Playstation would be cool.
One game I’d love to see come back it life is Parasite Eve. Even on Ps1, it had beautiful cutscenes and an amazing story. In today’s standards I think they would need to rework some of the combat and the camera angles. Would be even cooler to see it become an over the shoulder perhaps! And a nice new polish would help too! If ever come to pass though, I’d love to have it on the Ps5! Here’s hoping one day we see some of these ideas in action!
I think they should remake Combat Flight Simulator. It was originally a windows only program, but now I see that they have flight Simulator on the new Xbox models, so it could be a possibility. The world war 2 combat flight sims were more fun than the jet fighter games since you have actual dogfights. It was fun because it was 3d and they had a game controller that had force feedback and controls for the rudder pedals and everything. It would be neat with the updated graphics. Another game that could use an update is Star Wars Tie Fighter, for similar reasons.
I think that they should remake Dino Crisis because now it would actually not look cheesy. I originally played it on the Dreamcast – still one of my most favourite consoles – and both the controls and visuals were lacking. It still had jump scares but it didn’t compensate for the other problems. So it needs better graphics – maybe a VR mode – and tighter controls so it would actually be possible escape from the dinosaurs. I’d love to play this new version on the Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5, in a dark room on a giant screen – gaming bliss!
Played Amped on Xbox, would love to see this game remade with updated physics engine and new mountains to play on current gen Xbox.
First of all, Best Buy is my go to for any and all games and I really like the regular sales and discounts. A game I would like to be redone is Gta: Chinatown Wars. I feel the story is good even though many people might disagree. The main thing that drove people away from this game was the bird’s eye view. I hope this can be changed and released on the Xbox. Speaking of which the Xbox prize pack seems really good.
I think smash bros on switch should be remade with Xbox characters for the Xbox series x/s Console and 1
I played so much Ren & Stimpy on the old game boy. I would love to see what kind of changes 25 years could do to make it better on a nintendo switch.
