You can learn about all the gaming news in our articles and preorder many of the games soon after they are announced (or learn when preorders begin). And like every year in June, Play at Best Buy will include a huge gaming contest!

Innovation and nostalgia make gaming better every year

The gaming world is constantly adapting and building on its previous successes. Each new game is an iteration on the programming, animation, videography, and sound design that came before to bring an immersive blend of storytelling, interactive entertainment, and competition. This year we have already seen amazing games, including Star Wars: Jedi Survivor by Respawn and EA games. And Nintendo just released the highly anticipated: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Fans have been waiting for years to play this game and many are already calling it the game of the year.

Both of those titles bring a healthy dose of nostalgia with new game play features that stretch the limits of technology. We expect to see more of this trend in many of the gaming announcements over the rest of this year, especially from now to the end of June. Be on the lookout for several more reboots and sequels. Additionally, watch for potential future franchise games in the many indy titles vying for our attention.

How to enter

Entering this contest will be fun and you can enter in three different ways:

  1. In a comment below: tell us the name of a game you played in the past that you think should be redone soon. A valid entry must include all three of these parts: 1. what console you played it on; 2. what changes you suggest would make a new version exciting; and 3. on which console would you like to try this new version of the game.
  2. Social post: For two additional entries, create a public post on a social media channel sharing with your friends and followers that you are entering the Play at Best Buy blog contest. Let your friends know which prize package you are hoping to win and what new game you will play first if you do win; include the hashtag #PlayatBestBuyContest, so we can find your post, and include a picture from this contest page. Then return here and tell us in a comment below on which channel you posted it and the name of your channel (since many people use pseudonyms) so that we can check and verify your entry. You can use any social media channel (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.), but the post must be public so we can verify it is there.
  3. Email a photo: If you visit any Best Buy store, take a picture with your smartphone of the gaming section in a store showing several of the games available that you love to play. Then in an email to bestbuyblog@bestbuycanada.ca with the subject line “Play at Best Buy Contest” tell us the location of the store (city, street) and attach the picture.

What you can win

At the end of the contest, we will randomly select six (6) winners from all eligible entries. These winners will be randomly assigned to the six prize packages shown above so each winner will get one of those six prize packages.

This contest runs from May 31st to June 30th.

Remember you can enter up to four times as mentioned above. Perhaps you’ve been trying to win a prize in a Best Buy Canada contest for many years and just have not been lucky. Hedge your bet by telling all of your friends and family that you really need their support for this amazing contest. They’ll likely be happy to enter this contest too. If they win, I’m sure they’ll share the prize with you.

  1. I would love to see navel seals Socom redone with optimized grapgic and maybe some dlc for more missions i know it was a ps2 game but would love to play it on xbox

  2. Entered on Twitter @expunisher thanks for this contest, we may not have e3 anymore but this is almost as nostalgic

  3. Turok on n64 was underrated, would love to try on xbox with online multiplayer or a battle Royale style play

  4. Resident Evil – Code: Veronica is a game I would love to have remade, I first played it on playstation 2 way back in the year 2000. Some changes that would definitely have to be made includes the clunky-tank controls, a 3rd person camera view rather than fixed camera, but keep all the cheesy dialogue!! Those are my favourite parts of older Resident Evil games. Id love to play this on ps5 with the dualsense controller, I think they could implement a lot of cool features with the haptic feedback and triggers.

  5. Loved boxing and tennis on the original Wii fit would love to see that as an add on to the switch

  6. One game I think should be redone is, ‘Jet Li: Rise to Honor’.
I played this game on Playstation 2 when I was growing up.
I would suggest updating graphics, adding a few more combat moves and extending the story in the new version.
I would love to play this on PS5/PC.
My favourite thing about the game was probably the slo-mo cut scenes when you were fighting.

  7. I loved the wii fit that we used to play on the original wii. I would love to see it add even more game-like qualities and add it to the Nintendo Switch.

  8. I used to love playing Space Invaders on Atari. I hope it’s redone soon! To make the new version exciting: invaders with more intricate shapes and colours, with different sounds for each; plus varied backgrounds for different galaxies. I would like to try this new version on the Xbox.

  9. I would like to see Simpsons Hit and Run remade for the new consoles (especially the switch). It was a great game to play on the GameCube, and I think the game could really benefit from update processing of new consoles.

  10. I would like to see a remake of Mario Superstar Baseball for the Nintendo Switch. I grew up playing it on the GameCube, I know it was remade for the Wii, but now it’d be great on the Switch. They have remade Mario strikers, lets see baseball! Strikers has fun new updates such as online tournaments which would be great for Baseball.

  11. I would like to see a remake of Kingdom Hearts 3, that I played on the ps4 previously. I would like them to add more worlds that we can explore, including more post game content, as the game felt short. I would play this on the PS5.

  12. Super Mario Sunshine on nintendo gamecube – I think just modernizing the graphics and quality would be awesome on a Playstation 5 once it’s out!

  13. Doom on the PC. After the classic Doom RTX on the PC was demoed, they should release an updated version with ray tracing on the PS5.

  14. I would like to see breath of fire 2 remaster. I played that game a lot when I was younger on SNES and loved it. Wouldn’t mind playing an updated version with better graphics. I’d like to see that on the Nintendo Switch.

  15. I would like to see bloodborne on the PS5, it would be a dream come true.

  16. In the past I’ve played Batman: Arkham Origins on the Xbox 360. I’d like to see it redone with new features such as ray tracing and haptic feedback on the PlayStation 5.

  17. I think Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas should be remastered for the current gen consoles. I played this game back in the day when I owned the Sony PlayStation 2 Slim. I would definitely enjoy playing it for a little bit on the Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5. I think that being able to play multiplayer online and some new vehicles and weaponry would be nice.

  18. PT on the PS4, I’m not sure if this counts because it was never fully released, only the demo. But it was such an interesting spooky game, that left so much to the imagination. I finished the demo and was SO excited for it to be released, then it never happened. Pokemon Stadium on the Nintendo 64, haven’t played in years and years, but you know a game was good when you still think about it 10-15 years later. I would love if they re released it with more games and to nowadays updated quality, I would play it on Nintendo switch !! ALSO last but not least Red Dead Redemption on the PS3, I wouldn’t necessarily say it needs to be re made as their is so much to love about it, maybe just some minor improvements and updates, but it would be AMAZING if they made another version with a new story line, new characters, updated graphics on the PS5 would be nice.

  19. Red Dead Redemption from the Xbox 360 would be a great re-master for the Xbox Series X/S
Updated graphics with ray-tracing, higher resolution and frame rates would make the game very enjoyable the second time around

  20. I game I would like to play is Dragon Warrior 3, I played on the gameboy color. I would love for them to make a proper 2DHD remake of it and not the bad looking one we have now bundled with the first and second one too. I would like one for the ps5 like they did for final fantasy. A definitive edition
I uploaded my entry on twitter with name @TheUnapCrab

  21. Mike Tyson: Punch Out!! on NES! I would give it updated graphics and motion sensor virtual reality as well as updated boxers and I would make it for the XBOX Series X system.

  22. I submitted an entry the other day, and it supposedly needed to be reviewed, but hasn’t appeared here. I’m not sure how long it takes, but just resubmitting in case mine slipped through the proverbial crack. Please disregard this one if the original made it through and was delayed in being verified.

First, I want to say thank you for the opportunity; this is an amazing giveaway! This is a tough choice for sure – there are plenty of games that would be awesome to see redone. I think a classic would be awesome to see, such as Donkey Kong Country or Super Mario – enjoyed many hours with both on the Super Nintendo during my childhood, and even in my early adult years! Changes to a classic may be a bit tricky, though; I’m thinking maybe just an update to the graphics and making them feel a bit more open world, but with a very similar play-through progression and same “story,” so to speak. As for which console they should be on, I’m thinking it would probably be most appropriate for a classic to to return on its predecessor’s successor – with the games I’ve chosen to use as an example, I’m thinking the Nintendo Switch.

Also, for the extra two entries, here’s the post I made: https://twitter.com/DAWy_2085/status/1667596776184872962. That Xbox stand really is awesome – and my favourite colour to boot!

  23. Its an oldie, Pole Position which was played on Atari. Like I said, its an oldie, so the graphics would definitely need to be upgraded and I’d happily play it on either the Xbox Series X or the Playstation 5.

  24. Faxanadu on the NES. I would give it an open world environment but with a little helper if needed for new gamers so they don’t get completely lost. I would bring this version to the Switch.

  25. I liked Commander Keen,I played it on my PC,I’d like more episodes with higher quality animation.I’d play it on a Xbox Series X 🙂 Thanks!

  26. The game i would make redone is Wing Commander! I played it on my PC for months! With current gaming setups, I would improve the graphics, make it VR capable, multiplayer and put it on PS5 to play

  27. Well it’s an old game but I’d love to see Vanguard Bandits remade. That game was AMAZING for it’s time, but also the Lunar Series. I’d love to play them on PC, even if it’s just with a better sound track as the graphics still (IMO) hold up to standards today.

  28. Dragon Age: Origins
I enjoyed playing it on PC. I would improve graphics and higher resolution and include more romance options.
I would like to continue it on PC.

  29. I would like to see call of duty MW3 remastered. I already have played MW remastered and MW2 remastered on PS5, the third one will complete the storyline and trilogy on PS5. I am really looking forward for this dream to become reality. Cheers.

  30. I would still like to see a proper remake of Final Fantasy VI (or Final Fantasy III in the West) from the SNES. The recent Pixel Remaster is nice but remaking it in the way of HD-2D similar to that of Octopath Travellers, or in anime-style 3D similar to Bravely Default II would both be great. One change that would greatly benefit the new version would be adding voice-acting. Yes, I want it on the Switch, but it can totally be multi-platform.

  31. I would get Super Metroid redone, we used to play it on Super Nintendo Entertainment System. If it would be redone, I would want better graphics and controls with more people able to play at the same time and to be played on an XBOX

  32. I would like to see Need for Speed Most Wanted (2005) remade for modern day consoles. I enjoyed playing that game on the PS2. The new version should have better graphics, updated car models, ray-tracing, and higher resolution/frame rate options. I would like to play this remade version of the game on PS5.

  33. First game that gives me the most nostalgia would be Jake & Daxter. A remake would be amazing, especially in a similar style to Jak 2 & 3 with more exploration, lore and side quests!
