Video gaming keeps growing. The major consoles have been out for a while now and game developers continue to bring out more action, stunning details, and incredible gameplay in the newest games this year. We expect some amazing announcements this June as we celebrate gaming with Play at Best Buy. Follow us as we cover the biggest announcements and preorders in the gaming industry. You can learn about all the gaming news in our articles and preorder many of the games soon after they are announced (or learn when preorders begin). And like every year in June, Play at Best Buy will include a huge gaming contest!

Innovation and nostalgia make gaming better every year

The gaming world is constantly adapting and building on its previous successes. Each new game is an iteration on the programming, animation, videography, and sound design that came before to bring an immersive blend of storytelling, interactive entertainment, and competition. This year we have already seen amazing games, including Star Wars: Jedi Survivor by Respawn and EA games. And Nintendo just released the highly anticipated: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Fans have been waiting for years to play this game and many are already calling it the game of the year.

Both of those titles bring a healthy dose of nostalgia with new game play features that stretch the limits of technology. We expect to see more of this trend in many of the gaming announcements over the rest of this year, especially from now to the end of June. Be on the lookout for several more reboots and sequels. Additionally, watch for potential future franchise games in the many indy titles vying for our attention.

How to enter

Entering this contest will be fun and you can enter in three different ways:

  1. In a comment below: tell us the name of a game you played in the past that you think should be redone soon. A valid entry must include all three of these parts: 1. what console you played it on; 2. what changes you suggest would make a new version exciting; and 3. on which console would you like to try this new version of the game.
  2. Social post: For two additional entries, create a public post on a social media channel sharing with your friends and followers that you are entering the Play at Best Buy blog contest. Let your friends know which prize package you are hoping to win and what new game you will play first if you do win; include the hashtag #PlayatBestBuyContest, so we can find your post, and include a picture from this contest page. Then return here and tell us in a comment below on which channel you posted it and the name of your channel (since many people use pseudonyms) so that we can check and verify your entry. You can use any social media channel (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.), but the post must be public so we can verify it is there.
  3. Email a photo: If you visit any Best Buy store, take a picture with your smartphone of the gaming section in a store showing several of the games available that you love to play. Then in an email to bestbuyblog@bestbuycanada.ca with the subject line “Play at Best Buy Contest” tell us the location of the store (city, street) and attach the picture.

What you can win

At the end of the contest, we will randomly select six (6) winners from all eligible entries. These winners will be randomly assigned to the six prize packages shown above so each winner will get one of those six prize packages.

This contest runs from May 31st to June 30th.

Remember you can enter up to four times as mentioned above. Perhaps you’ve been trying to win a prize in a Best Buy Canada contest for many years and just have not been lucky. Hedge your bet by telling all of your friends and family that you really need their support for this amazing contest. They’ll likely be happy to enter this contest too. If they win, I’m sure they’ll share the prize with you.

Win a Play at Best Buy gaming prize

  1. I used to play Tetris on the original Nintendo and it would be great to have a Nintendo Switch version that is themed with a cross of another game like with Mario characters or Just Dance characters.

  2. Sim City 2000.
Played this game a ton on PC.
It’s been too long since a new Sim City game has been released.
Would love to see this game remastered with updated graphics and features for both consoles and PC

Or maybe EA can resurrect the franchise and make a new one day

  3. Rachel and Clank: Deadlocked (played on PS2). I would love to see a remastered version of this game with updated graphics, voice acting, and possibly some storyline tweaks. I think this game would be perfect for the current gen Sony consoles.

  4. I’d love to see the Original Fable that I played on the original XBox redone, but more open world with lots of quests that overall determine your moral rating. Since I’ve always been an Xbox kinda guy so playing it on the new Xbox Series X would be cool, but I always thought it should’ve been made for PlayStation.

  5. I would love to see a remake of the original Final Fantasy Tactics from the PlayStation. I’d be happy seeing it done for either PS5, Switch or both. Updated graphics works be nice to see

  6. Legacy of Kaine: Soul Reaver would be a cool title to redo.

    Played it on the PS2.

Update the graphics, fill in more of the lore, and make the areas larger.

Would love to play it on the PS5.

  7. Tenchu: Stealth Assassins PS1

A friend of mine and I played this game religiously when it was released in the late 90’s. It had an excellent mix of stealth play, music, atmosphere, and Ninja bloodletting using various Ninja weapons and techniques. It was almost a perfect game except for the various bugs and twitches the game could have, (something unfortunately we still see today the Just Cause games being a good example), of random things or characters on screen just disappearing, reappearing, freezing etc etc.

I think a good example of what a modern version of Tenchu could be – would be the fabulous Ghost of Tsushima. Ghost of Tsushima had a fantastic story, bright vista visuals of Japan, and excellent Samurai combat and bloodletting using various Samurai weapons and techniques……notice any similarities yet. But while Ghost of Tsushima had those bright vista’s and direct face to face combat Tenchu took place in the shadows with combat focused on the Ninja tradition of not being seen forcing you to find ways to blend in with your environment and find modes of attack that focused on stealth, surprise, trap placement, and remaining undetected.

Given that we are now 4 console generations and 20+ years away from the original Tenchu game just imagine what could be done with all the game play innovations since. I wonder if any of Ghost of Tsushima’s game designers had ever played Tenchu and I would love to see what they could do with this property.

I highly recommend checking out some game play footage of Tenchu if you are not familiar with it and then letting your imagination run through the visuals of Ghost of Tsushima to imagine what a modern version of Tenchu could be….it makes me smile just thinking about it.

    Bonus Recommendation:
    Dino Crisis 1 and 2
I mean come on….excellent weapon fighting game play against aggressive dinosaurs mixed with imaginative puzzle problem solving what’s not to love….and again 4 console generations and 20+ years since these original two gems of a game.

  8. the legend of zelda games (all of them). i enjoyed them just the way they were. for the nintendo switch.

  9. Tomb Raider 2!
Played on ps2 and pc, update the graphics but leave the maps and puzzles as is. Bartollis hideout? Classic. Any next gen console would be amazing.

  10. I would LOVE a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and Ages. They were amazing games that deserve some love on the Nintendo Switch! Making it in the style of the recent Link’s Awakening would be so cute.

  11. There was this game I played on Sega Dreamcast called Power Stone 2, I would love to see it know with the current graphics improvements and more characters and stages and I would play it on PS5!

  12. Guerrilla War (1987) or Lifeforce (1986) originally released on arcade then on NES. I still remember playing both at the local arcades and corner stores when I was a kid. My son is big into gaming and I introduced him to the two games, though he didn’t share the love that I have, given the significant differences in detail and gameplay that he gets to enjoy with current games. Revamped versions for either PlayStation or Xbox would be pretty cool!

  13. I feel the time has come for Rock Band to return. Some of the most fun I’ve ever had playing a video game with others was Rock Band 2 and The Beatles Rock Band on the XBOX 360. I even had a surprise birthday party where a group of friends, family & I played this together at a local theatre. Now, with the flexibility of Nintendo Switch, VR capabilities of Playstation (etc.) as well as how vastly cross-platform online multiplayer has evolved, it would seem that the time has come for Harmonix (etc.) to reignite Rockband for a whole new generation (as well as for those gamers nostalgic for the original series) AND with SO many new songs to work with (as well as a wealth of music still just waiting to be added!) The way musicians release and promote new material continues to evolve and social media, reality TV (etc.) has changed a lot, too—feels like now might be a great time for a fresh take on the whole multi-instrument gameplay genre! I could definitely see the family playing this on the Switch or how much fun it might be to “hit the stage” in a VR headset!

  14. Midtown madness and Midtown madness 2. Midtown madness 1 was the game I bought my first steering wheel and pedals for my pc to play on and were games I played until my pc died. I would love to have the games redone as one game with both cities combined as playable and the 3d models updated as well as newer online play and local multi-player. I would love to play it on pc, Xbox series x, Playstation 5 or nintendo switch.

  15. I would LOVE IT if Disney let Nintendo re-release the original Star Wars Rogue Squadron on the Switch OLED. A PS5 version would rock too Battlefront 2 style! I absolutely adore playing it on my Nintendo 64. Better yet, do it in a trilogy pack and include Rogue Squadron 2 and 3 from the Nintendo GameCube system like they did with the Star Wars LEGO games!! This way I wouldn’t need to switch my systems back and forth to play all 3 of my very fav games. I would also love it if they did an update to the current graphics available on the Switch for them, added new ships, and threw in a few “bonus” levels for each game exclusive to the Nintendo Switch console as long as they don’t change any of the maps or views! I had issues with SW Squadrons because of it’s 1st person only gameplay on my Playstation 4.
I would want to win the PS5 system pak as I already have 2 Switches, a N64, A GameCube, a PS2, and a PS4 but as i’m not working very many hours atm, I just can’t afford it’s price tag right now.
I publicly shared the contest on my sister’s Facebook page. Pinned to the top of her home page.

  16. I would definitely do a remaster of the legend of Zelda twilight princess. This was my favourite game growing up and still remains to be to this day. I originally played it on the Nintendo wii but would love to see it on the Nintendo switch. If it was remastered, I would definitely improve graphics, add gear customization, and perhaps add some additional dungeons or slightly change already existing ones just to freshen it up and create a new experience.

  17. I would love for the Bioshock series to be redone. I initially played it on PS3, then again on PS4.
It would be amazing reimagined with newer graphics. I would play it on PS5!! Hoping this actually happens one day!! [Editor’s note: I saw your comment saying you made a mistake in your earlier comment, and made the corrections so your entry is now valid – M.R.)

  18. Max Payne!! That game changed my life! Played it on the ps2 back in the days and I’d love to see it done on the Xbox Series x and Ps5 with an updated camera and shooting mechanic while being faithful to the original version. As well as a nice fresh color coat of 4K as well.

  19. It would be great to redo DONKEY KONG.
1- I played it on the Colecovision
2- I would upgrade the graphics, add new challenging levels, and add a challenge system to keep players engaged with continuous objectives to complete
3- I would love to play it on the Xbox Series X!

  20. How about Wonder Boy?!? It was a sidescrolling 2d platformer on The Sega Master System. I’d love to see the basic game turned into an open world RPG. And I’d play it on the Xbox series X.

  21. Spider-man Miles Morales. It was really fun to play and really action-intense. I think the story line could be increased so there is more fun to it. Overall, really fun game, would love to see more. The ps5 version should probably have some easter egg that the ps4 version might not have. I would want these changes on the ps5 version. Thank you!

  22. A game I played in the past that should be redone soon would be Skies of Arcadia. I played it on the Sega Dreamcast. I would like to see a remake of the orginal with amazing new graphics the new systems can produce and I would like to see it on the Xbox Series X.

  23. game I played in the past that I would love to have redone is:
    Jet Moto
I played it with my kids on the Playstation and we loved it, we love racing games of all kinds.
Would want the remake to have bigger courses with better scenery and power ups and bigger competition online with others and it would be for the Playstation still

  24. I played Zillion on a Sega system and I imagine playing it on a PlayStation 5. Step into the shoes of J.J. as you embark on a thrilling quest to rescue Apple. Utilize the immersive capabilities of the PS5’s DualSense controller to experience the action-packed gameplay firsthand. Engage in intense firefights with Norsa Empire soldiers, aiming and shooting with precision using the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. Solve intricate puzzles by manipulating J.J.’s gadgets with the innovative touchpad and gyroscopic features. Enhancements for a new version on the PS5 could include ray-traced graphics, faster loading times, and expanded levels with breathtaking visuals, elevating the overall gaming experience.

  25. In the spirit of Legend of Zelda, a full HD remake of the original game would be great.

  26. I’d really like to see an updated version of Dead by Daylight that I’ve been playing on the PS4. A major upgrade would be to have a solo player mode, where you can play vs the AI. I’ve had trouble finding players to make up a team & it’s frustrating when I can’t just sit down & play such a great (but creepy) game. I would still like to play on the PS platform, but I would love it if there was a cross-platform ability to play against more gamers.

  27. I played Jak and Daxter on PS2 and would love for it to be remastered or a new game to come out on PS5! They could utilize the power of the PS5 just like they did for Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart; Instant load times, seamless transitions between worlds, amazing graphics, and haptic feedback!

  28. Persona 4 Golden
    1. what console you played it on; PS Vita
    2. what changes you suggest would make a new version exciting; Updated graphics and a more dynamic battle system
    3. on which console would you like to try this new version of the game. Xbox Series X; Where I’m currently player though Persona 5 Royal

  29. I’d love to see the original Steel Battalion remade on Xbox Series X/PS5/PC complete with the original massive controller. I absolutely loved the original and how immersive it was. To be able to play it on modern hardware with crisp visuals, 60 fps and taking advantage of home theater systems would be amazing. VR support would also be huge. If it supported VR, PS5 would definitely be the console to play this on.

  30. I used to play Spyro all the time on PlayStation 1. It was my first video game that I ever truly played. I think with some updated graphics and new challenges and adventures to make the game more difficult, it would be insane to play it on the PlayStation console.

  31. I played Guitar Hero on Xbox 360 years ago but would like to play it on Wii. It would be exciting to have the ability to be creative with the songs and maybe even write my own.

  32. I’d love to see Bomberman redone. We would play for hors with family and friend on Nintendo NES system. We would use a multitap so four of us could play at a time. I would love to see it redone with better graphics, but also the ability to several players at once; more than the four maximum from the old version. It would be great to be able to play online against others as well. I would love to play it on Switch.

  33. The Game I would get redone is Daytona 500 because we love racing in our home
    1. what console you played it on:
    Played it on PC
    2. what changes you suggest would make a new version exciting;
Better Graphics, added VR, more updated tracks and better damage capturing on the cars
    3. on which console would you like to try this new version of the game.
Would love to keep it on PC

  34. I would like to see Minecraft Redone, I played it on Xbox 360 for many years but I wanna see it redone so the graphics and mechanics and engine are newer and more survival related stuff and creepy creatures and cool stuff like modded selective things incorporated in the game that people already made that are popular and I’d like to play it on Xbox cause it’s easier to connect with friends and have a better vibe with people

  35. Definitely would be Red Dead Redemption.
    I played it Xbox 360.
Changes i’d like to see is John Marston’s story in a more detailed open-world with today’s updated graphics.
I would be interested in playing it on PS5.

  36. I would love to see The Sims updated, as a family we enjoyed playing it on the PC, fighting over who goes next! I would love to see a new version with new characters who have grown with the technology of today. I would love to play The Sims on a new PS5, as for right now we do not have a console for when the grandchildren (and their parents) visit! Thank you!

  37. Fallout 2. Played on PC, would love to see new graphics and added content. Ps5 would be my preference
