Video games and music go hand in hand

During a game, music can tug at your heart or it can get you going in the direction that the game designer wants you to. On the other hand, music in a game can let the player know that they are losing health or just gained a power up. Finally, a game’s soundtrack can help brand it—and leave a lasting impression while creating many favourable memories.

As a direct result, video game concerts have become popular all over the world with gamers. Many concerts travel the globe to sold out crowds. Not only is it a great way to connect with other gamers in the community but it also is an incredible experience that you won’t soon forget. Let me tell you about my experience with a recent video game concert that I went to not too long ago and the impact it had on me.

Kingdom Hearts Orchestra World of Tres World Tour

To help celebrate the launch of Kingdom Hearts III earlier in the year, the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra concert series went on tour all over the world with a brand-new program—Kingdom Hearts Orchestra World of Tres. Luckily one of the stops was here in Toronto and I had the esteemed pleasure of attending.

The orchestra and choir were composed of more than 100 musicians who put on a stunning performance. The live orchestra included woodwinds, brass, piano, percussion and other instruments. The concert started with spectacular renditions of iconic music from the Kingdom Hearts franchise. To add even more impact, behind the orchestra and choir was a large screen. It showed gameplay footage in perfect harmony with the music.

However, the highlight of the concert was when the orchestra played music from Kingdom Hearts III. They went chapter by chapter through out the game. You could hear many people in the audience humming along, and were cheering and clapping at the end of every piece. Not only did several of the songs send chills down my spine but they also brought back fond memories and times when I was playing the game. It’s like the moments were frozen in time and by listening to the music I could replay them as many times as I wanted.

  1. The best soundtrack for sure is The World Ends With You” on the nintendo DS and Switch. I listen to it even now and the game is a decade old.

  2. Final fantasy X, the music is perfectly orchestrated, emotional melodic tunes that are all unique to the location you are in throughout the game. It’s perfection.

  3. The original Chinese Paladin (sword and fairy?). An old Chinese game that made me fall in love with rpg genre back in 95′. Til this day I still have its soundtrack in my playlist. Note: not the newer or redone vers.

  4. Zelda as it is more peaceful. I am not into rap & loud noise. I want Playstation headphones for my grandson.

  5. I am into star wars, so I have to go with Battlefront 2 just for the sheer fact its the newest one out there and I love the classic star wars music

  6. Zombies ate my neighbors, hands down, just worked for the zany theme of the game, completely out there

  7. Original Super Mario Bros! Simply one of the most iconic sound tracks to ever have been made.

  8. My favourite video game soundtrack is Final Fantasy X. It brings back great memories for me and gives each of the different locations a unique feeling. Great piece of musical work and it would sound even better with this headset of course.

  9. Zelda – the theme track has stood the test of time. You only need a few notes and it’s instantly recognizable.

  10. To me the best soundtrack I’ve heard to date is Final Fantasy VII.
From the opening track where you begin the bombing mission in sector 5, to the sad teary moment when Aerith is laid to rest the sounds and musical tones match the mood of the scene or part in the game. Masterfully created by legendary composer Nobuo Uematsu, the world of Midgar and of Final Fantasy VII come to life with his music. Each characters theme song is pure joy and you’ll find yourself humming along to many of the songs while playing the game and even when you’re not.

I can’t wait to hear the recomposed tracks in Final Fantasy VII Remake and to laugh, to cry and to hum along to fantastic tracks that I could listen to over and over again.

  11. Transistor -Amazing chillout vibes and Life is Strange before the Storm – great album by Daughter brings out to pain and teenage angst

  12. Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time because it’s matches the events in the games so perfectly. It calms you in some places, Makes you happy in other places and scares the living daylight out of you in others and years later whenever I hear it I am instantly transported back to my childhood

  13. Shadow of the Tomb Raider for XBox One X. The music for this game is enhanced for Dolby Atmos and it is just out of this world. The music perfectly matches the situation, and when outside of combat, can be extremely soothing (especially while in a jungle scene). The sound is so realistic that when I first played, I had to pause the game several times because I thought I heard a leak in my house!

  14. Grandia II for the Dreamcast, game even came with a CD of the soundtrack and it was definitely really good.
