Video games and music go hand in hand
During a game, music can tug at your heart or it can get you going in the direction that the game designer wants you to. On the other hand, music in a game can let the player know that they are losing health or just gained a power up. Finally, a game’s soundtrack can help brand it—and leave a lasting impression while creating many favourable memories.
As a direct result, video game concerts have become popular all over the world with gamers. Many concerts travel the globe to sold out crowds. Not only is it a great way to connect with other gamers in the community but it also is an incredible experience that you won’t soon forget. Let me tell you about my experience with a recent video game concert that I went to not too long ago and the impact it had on me.
Kingdom Hearts Orchestra World of Tres World Tour
To help celebrate the launch of Kingdom Hearts III earlier in the year, the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra concert series went on tour all over the world with a brand-new program—Kingdom Hearts Orchestra World of Tres. Luckily one of the stops was here in Toronto and I had the esteemed pleasure of attending.
The orchestra and choir were composed of more than 100 musicians who put on a stunning performance. The live orchestra included woodwinds, brass, piano, percussion and other instruments. The concert started with spectacular renditions of iconic music from the Kingdom Hearts franchise. To add even more impact, behind the orchestra and choir was a large screen. It showed gameplay footage in perfect harmony with the music.
However, the highlight of the concert was when the orchestra played music from Kingdom Hearts III. They went chapter by chapter through out the game. You could hear many people in the audience humming along, and were cheering and clapping at the end of every piece. Not only did several of the songs send chills down my spine but they also brought back fond memories and times when I was playing the game. It’s like the moments were frozen in time and by listening to the music I could replay them as many times as I wanted.

The Legend of Zelda A link to the Past has the best soundtrack ever! All the songs use the same theme but with distinct changes depending on the atmosphere. A good soundtrack should always complement the game!
The first Destiny game. The music was amazing almost to good, would be huming along and paying less attention to what I’m doing on screen and more to the music
I think Life is Strange has the best soundtrack because it not only does it fit the atmosphere of the game, it also helps underscore the themes in it!
I’m going to say BioShock Infinite has the best soundtrack because it has so many dynamic songs and a neat variety to it!
I have to go with the original Halo. Everytime something epic happened it would kick up. Think of any huge heroic scene from that game and you suddenly get it in your head. Or even that choir music at the beginning, so iconic.
Super Mario Bros. has the best soundtrack, because who doesn’t love those 8-bit beats eh?
Metal gear Solid 5 because it has a lot of music from my childhood and great instrumentals
God of War because of how the music works with the action and builds you up.
I would say Middle Earth: Shadow Of Mordor. The music is moving and well places throughout the game. Whether it was an intense battle or when you are out exploring while trying to remain stealthfull. I bought the collectors edition and used to listen to it while playing with kids in the play room while having Lego battles.
Easy win for Secret of Mana. I can still hear the soundtrack as this was one of the first games I put in major hours as a child! Hearing it now just makes me feel like a kid again.
Doom sound track
For some reason I really love Ori and the Blind Forest soundtrack!
Zelda games are my 2nd!
It is very hard to choose just one. One of the very first video game soundtracks I bought was Halo 3. The music is so epic it just enhances the gameplay and story to the next level.
I really enjoy the Cuphead soundtrack and how it fits with the old-timey cartoon feel so well.
I love Persona 4’s soundtrack, I think it’s great since the music always fits the tone the game’s trying to set and a lot of the songs are very catchy!
Doom. The soundtrack is amazing and the spooky noises make the game even more scary.
Any Zelda game.
NHL 19. EA does great work on the sound tracks. It gets you ready for the game play.
I would have to say Legend of Zelda games, it always gets me hyped up.
Little bit dated but I like the soundtrack from the last of us remastered.
Jim
Donkey Kong Country 2 – One, the music itself is just amazing, and suits every environment in the game perfectly. Two, if you look into how music had to be programmed into cartridges back in the SNES days, it’s even more mind blowing.
Hands down the best video game soundtrack I’ve ever heard has to be Chrono Cross. It’s one of the few soundtracks I’ve found that doesn’t feature a single track I dislike and has remained a staple on my MP3 player for over 15 years. I love the Celtic influence in a lot of the tracks, and each track feel like it has a timeless appeal to it that never seems to get old. While playing the game I never once skipped the intro movie just so I could listen to Time’s Scar one more time.
I’ve always been a fan of the EA NHL series. played them every year and always enjoyed the music. Halo music has always resonated with me as well over the years.
Most of the Halo titles have great music but in my opinion, God of War (2018) has the best soundtrack because of how the music helps you to get lost in the world. It’s right up there with some of the best movie soundtracks like the Lord of the Rings films. The PS4 Spider-Man soundtrack is great as well.
Honestly, Call of Duty 4 (modern warfare). Emotional and calming IMO, and represents the game so so well.
The Destiny franchise has a great soundtrack but one encounter in particular is probably the best I’ve heard and that’s the Sepiks Prime boss fight. I’ve even downloaded it as a ringtone.
Hands down the best video game soundtrack I’ve ever heard has to be Crono Cross. It’s one of the few soundstracks I’ve found that doesn’t feature a single track I dislike and has remained a staple on my MP3 player for the past 15 years. I love the Celtic influence in a lot of the tracks, and each track feels like it has a timeless appeal to it that never seems to get old. While playing the game I never once skipped the intro movie just so I could listen to Time’s Scar one more time.
Very hard to choose, but I think Jet Set Radio takes the cake
Halo, spooky and dramatic music adds a lot to playing the game.
Definitely Minecraft, the music just lifts me up.
Grand Theft Auto V. This game has the biggest variety of music in any game I have played (59 song soundtrack). There is a station/genre for anyone. I still regularly play this game and I never get tired of the music.
Any Halo Game really. But Halo 1 is my favourite because that’s the game that made me love gaming. The music just makes me happy.
I’ve always loved the soundtrack from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. It always follows and enhances the mood of each scene within the game. Plus whenever I hear it I am transported back to the 90’s.
I’ve always loved the different stations in all the Grand Theft Auto games. Easily switch between the stations while cruising around the cities.
It is difficult to choose but there is one that really stands out for me: echochrome for Sony’s PSP. The game features beautifully composed violin music by Hideki Sakamoto that matches the simple, artistic nature of the game.
To this day, I still love the FF6 soundtrack.
The original Red Dead Redemption. The background tracks are amazing but the songs that play during important story moments (like riding into Mexico for the first time or when you finally get to go back home) are on another level entirely.
Jet set radio on sega dreamcast has the best soundtrack it perfectly fits the vibe of the game. I have a few songs on my spotify playlist it’s that good.
My favourite soundtrack is from Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne.
It simply hits all the film noir notes that the game sets out to be, has one of the most perfect and beautiful end credits song in gaming history.
Late Goodbye by Poets of the Fall is a classic, and if you focus enough in the game you hear different versions of it. From a murderer playing it on a piano, to the incredible Mona Sax singing it to herself in the shower.
Just brilliant all the way through.
Danganronpa V3 has the best soundtrack hands down. The tracks are ominous but also lively and exiting to listen to and really complete the game experience. My favourite track is of course the scrum debate.
The Halo 3: ODST is the best score. Combines Martin O’Donnell’s usual brilliant scores for the Halo series with a film noir jazz element that puts the game over the top.
I would say the Halo franchise has a great soundtrack, it definitely immerses you in the game!
I have always loved the soundtrack to street fighter 2, it’s a classic
Halo. Self explanatory:)
Mafia 3. Has so many old classic songs
The Dark Souls games by far have the greatest soundtrack I have ever heard. I love how it’s calming, yet haunting at the same time, considering the boss encounters are from calm haha. The theme for the Gwyn battle in the 1st game is my favorite.
It’s hard to choose just one game, I would say that the Legend of Zelda franchise has the greatest music overall. Just for my favourite song, Ballad of the Windfish, I will say that The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening has the greatest soundtrack! Also, we will all be able to experience it again when the game releases on Switch later this year!
halo 3 because the music is catchy
Very Good
I really like the Minecraft soundtrack, so many different tunes and it’s very in tune with the game!
