New games revealed for PS4 and PS VR
During the Sony press conference, several new games were announced for both PS4 and PS VR. Some of them, like Shadow of the Colossus and Monster Hunter, were rumored for awhile, while others were complete surprises. Here are the new games that caught my attention:
Shadow of the Colossus
Shadow of the Colossus is one of Sony’s all-time classics, originally releasing on PS2. An HD remastered version released on PS3 in 2011, and now Sony is remastering the game for PS4. This new version looks greatly enhanced (4K perhaps?) with stunning environments and breathtaking colossi. SotC was my all-time favourite PS2 game so my expectations for this game are sky high. From what I’ve seen so far, it looks incredible.
Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds
One thing I did not expect to see at E3 was anything Horizon Zero Dawn related. So, I was pleasantly surprised to see new downloadable content already for the game. The Frozen Wilds appears to take place in a new wintry region where Aloy will again need to take down huge dinosaur Machines. From the trailer, its appears to be another story-driven game and new weapons can be seen. Can’t wait to see more!
Monster Hunter World
Monster Hunter is a massive game franchise that has appeared solely on portable consoles for many years. But now the series is returning to consoles in a big way with Monster Hunter World. In the trailer we saw gargantuan beasts, mostly resembling dinosaurs, that our monster hunter attempts to take down. We even saw two of the beasts attack each other, which was very cool to see. And of course, you can roast meat! That part made the audience laugh, while at the same time reminding us that yes, this is a Monster Hunter game.
The Inpatient
From Supermassive Games, the team that brought us Until Dawn, comes a new PS VR title called The Inpatient. The trailer we saw appears to take place inside a mental asylum and looks very aesthetically similar to Until Dawn. In fact, apparently it’s set in the same universe and set 60 years before the events of Until Dawn. It’s an entirely stand-alone game though, so you don’t need to have played the previous game. I’m definitely very intrigued by this title, and fantastic to see Sony continuing to support PS VR.
Skyrim VR
As well, PS VR is getting its own version of Skyrim. The trailer seems to show that we’ll be stepping directly into the shoes of the player and can control our sword and shield using motion controls. I fully expect then for this game to utilize Sony’s Move motion wands. Skyrim is a massive game, so this should be quite the epic experience in VR!
