LG G2 OLED 97 inch

It’s been another big year for TVs at CES 2022. We’ve highlighted the latest TVs announced from Sony, Samsung, LG, and TCL, but there’s even more to cover. If this is the year you’ve decided to upgrade your TV, you’re going to have a lot of great options in OLED, Mini-LED, and the newest QD-OLED.

New TVs announced at CES 2022

Here’s a recap of what’s sure to be the best and brightest in new TVs this year.

Panasonic announces new OLED

Panasonic has a new OLED on the way, and it looks like it’s going to be a big brand contender for those seeking one of these TVs this year. The Panasonic MZ2000 will be available in 55″, 65″, and 77″, and the large model is dubbed a Master OLED Pro Cinema size.

Running the HCX Pro AI Processor, the Panasonic MZ2000 should be even speedier than previous models and can auto-adjust your picture quality based on what you’re watching. It also has an RBG sensor so it takes in ambient light in your room and can adjust itself to suit the room best. It supports multiple HDR formats including HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision IQ.

One of the most interesting additions is speaker placement, and they’ve removed the standard front-firing speakers and replaced them with array speakers that are at the bottom of the panel. You can adjust the directional audio by switching modes, so you can send sound to a certain part of the room.

LG’s C2 OLED is available in a micro 42 inches

LG had a lot of great TV announcements at CES 2022, and they won quite a few Innovation Honoree awards. The LG G2 OLED TV was the obvious highlight, and it will be available on a massive 97″ screen. You can also find this TV in 83″ and 42″ sizes.

Brighter than some of the C2 models, the LG G2 has the evo OLED panel, (Alpha) 9 Gen 5 intelligent processor, and Brightness Booster technology to deliver the boldest and brightest picture quality possible.

The LG C2 is the next step up from the LG C1. It has an evo OLED display, 4K resolution, and gamer features including a variable refresh rate up to 120Hz and a new sports mode if you’re into first-person shooter games. There is also a screen brightness adjustment for improved gaming performance when you turn your lights off.

Samsung 144Hz Mini-LED TV and new MicroLED size

Samsung Neo QLED 8K

Samsung has had a busy year, and the release of their latest TVs at CES 2022 demonstrated their commitment to always raising the bar. They’ve announced their true RGB self-emitting Quantum Dot OLED, the Samsung 65″ QD-Display TV, pairing the brightness of quantum dots with the true black of OLED technology. They’ve also announced several QD Mini-LED TVs with a lightning-fast refresh rate of 144Hz, and that includes the QD-OLED.

It feels like we’ve been waiting a long time for mainstream MicroLED, and Samsung announced a new size for their MicroLED TV. This impossibly thin and bright TV technology will be available in 110″, 101″, and a home theatre-friendly size of 89″. Unlike Mini-LED, MicroLED uses 25 million micrometer LEDs as the light source. You can read more about this new TV technology by checking out Jason’s article.

Samsung also announced their own take on 8K – the Samsung Neo QLED 8K TV.  It features the Neo Quantum Processor for improved contrast and better backlight control. It’s brighter than previous generations and has Shape Adaptive Light Technology as well as a brand new algorithm so it can analyze content and let the backlight work to improve HDR performance.

It also has an interesting feature designed to protect your eyes from strain. The EyeComfort Mode will auto-adjust the brightness of the screen using a built-in light sensor and your home’s specific sunset and sunrise data to reduce blue light as the day goes on.

Sony QD-OLED TV will be the first to hit the market

The biggest announcement from Sony TV was the Master Series A95K, a QD-OLED TV that will be the first to hit the market. Andy covered the Sony announcement so take a look at his article for all of the details, but in a nutshell, this TV promises to be brighter than a conventional OLED display by pairing red and blue quantum dots. You’ll get impressive viewing angles, better black levels, and 200% colour saturation over a standard LED TV.

Sony also announced the Sony Master Series Z9K Mini-LED TV. Not only does this spectacular TV have 8K resolution and can run 8K at 60Hz, but it also has the Sony Cognitive Processor XR and the XR Backlight Master Drive. I wrote about the Sony Cognitive Processor XR last year. The TV can essentially mimic how your brain thinks, and can process images on the fly to give you the best possible picture quality for everything you watch.

The Sony Z9K runs Google TV, has voice control, and also features the new BRAVIA Cam. Take a look at Andy’s article about the BRAVIA Cam and see how this new addition will bring more to your home theatre.

TCL 8K TV wins Innovation Award

TCL 8K TV 2022

TCL has emerged as a big brand contender over the past few years, and the release of the TCL X9 ODZero Mini-LED 8K TV is going to cement that status. It utilizes tens of thousands of mini-LED backlights and OD Zero technology to deliver a TV with four times the sharpness of 4K TVs. There’s a whopping 33 million pixels in the TV, and you can enjoy the spectacular 8K resolution using the Google TV operating system.

You can use Google Assistant to search for movies and other content, or use your TV as a smart home hub and control all of your smart home devices on it. There’s also a pop-up camera on the TV that lets you video chat with friends and family.

All of these new TVs should be hitting shelves by early spring or summer, so be on the lookout for them. I’m most interested in checking out the QD-OLED TV because they promise to be even brighter than traditional OLED or Mini-LED.
