Great toys hold a special place in our hearts. They create great experiences at the time we play with them. They also leave a treasured memory that we can look back on and smile as we get older. The coolest toys do something a little extra. Really cool toys unite a generation, and sometimes multiple generations. Many of the hottest toys these days are tech toys: robots, drones etc. Which tech toy of 2016 do you think will make the biggest impression in a child’s life, or in your life? Just tell us what you think the coolest toy of 2016 is and you might win a huge trove of the newest toys from Best Buy.

bb8Every year new toys are released that have the potential to become a child’s special treasure. Best Buy carries many of these. Best Buy also has the greatest selection of tech toys. Last year I fell in love with the Sphero BB-8 App-enabled  Droid. It’s the kind of toy that will resonate in a person’s memories for decades.

(Four of the new special edition version of this droid are included in this contest’s prizes!)

 

You may find it difficult to decide what the coolest toy is this year. It’s not always easy to predict what will be the best toy in a given year, but really there are no wrong answers. For example, I asked my wife which tech toy she remembers as having been really cool when she was young and her answer, the Fisher Price parking garage (shown below), really surprised me! Note that Best Buy carries a Melissa & Doug version of this parking garage. I too had one of those vintage Fisher Price garages when I was young and played with it incessantly. I hadn’t thought about that toy in many years, but just the mention of it brought back a ton of great memories.

Kids nowadays may not view a parking garage as a tech toy given the options that exist. The prizes in this contest contain many of the best tech toys available in 2016. We have divided the more than $12000 in prizes into 6 toys bundles:

It is really easy to enter. You can submit a maximum of 2 entries for this contest.  In a comment at the bottom of this blog article, tell us what you think is the coolest tech toy available at Best Buy in 2016.  In a separate comment, tell us about the coolest tech toy you received when you were younger.

  1. My little boy thinks the Sphero BB-8 App-Enabled Droid with Star Wars Force Band is the coolest tech toy. That would be a great Christmas present for him!

  2. I think a drone with camera would be the neatest and coolest electric 2016 toy . I’d love to win a drone.

  5. I think a Yunneec Typhoon 4k drone would be a lot of fun when we go hiking. I can picture some awesome selfies on the escarpment. And in any case, we could exercise.

  6. I would love to win a drone. I am a senior and live alone in a 3 story duplex. Due to my arthritis I am unable to see if any of my roof shingles have blown off. If I could win a drone I could see with a drone’s camera if any shingles need replacing.

  8. As a child I enjoyed my Building Blocks and I feel my grandchildren would like the Parking Garage set: as this should teach them how to use their hands and minds together.

    I was a very fortunate child with generous parents and grandparents!

  15. My favourite tech toy I received growing up was the “Teach Me Reader.” Keep in mind this was the 80’s so the technology wasn’t super advanced 😉 However, I loved this toy and I was able to learn how to read by using the interactive elements of the toy – such a great gift!!

  24. My coolest tech Christmas gift as a kid was a chemistry set. I’m sure most of the chemicals would now be prohibited for kids, but I’m still here, so it was safe enough.

  34. When I was growing up I got a talking Teddy Ruxpin (Im not sure how to spell it). It was the coolest thing I had ever seen.

  36. My favorite early tech toy was a space crawler. Battery operated, it had 2 speeds and could climb over small blocks and cushions.

  37. Best toys this year, any of the drones. They emphasize outdoor play for fresh air, and work on coordination and motor skills. I wish they had stuff like this when I was younger.

  43. The coolest tech toy I received when I was younger was a plug-in console game of Tank Battle. This was not all that long after Pong came out and this was just really cool.

  47. Wow! The options are amazing…I think that any prize bundle would be awesome. However as I have toddler grandbabies… WowWee CHiP Robotic Dog is would be the coolest for my toddlers!!

  49. The Ultimate toys are GREAT! The power scooter is pretty “cool” says my kids! (They love playing outside) — we are so thankful for that!!
    My husband also loves power wheels and drones… anything remote controlles..you are never to old to enjoy toys.
