Great toys hold a special place in our hearts. They create great experiences at the time we play with them. They also leave a treasured memory that we can look back on and smile as we get older. The coolest toys do something a little extra. Really cool toys unite a generation, and sometimes multiple generations. Many of the hottest toys these days are tech toys: robots, drones etc. Which tech toy of 2016 do you think will make the biggest impression in a child’s life, or in your life? Just tell us what you think the coolest toy of 2016 is and you might win a huge trove of the newest toys from Best Buy.

bb8Every year new toys are released that have the potential to become a child’s special treasure. Best Buy carries many of these. Best Buy also has the greatest selection of tech toys. Last year I fell in love with the Sphero BB-8 App-enabled  Droid. It’s the kind of toy that will resonate in a person’s memories for decades.

You may find it difficult to decide what the coolest toy is this year. It’s not always easy to predict what will be the best toy in a given year, but really there are no wrong answers. For example, I asked my wife which tech toy she remembers as having been really cool when she was young and her answer, the Fisher Price parking garage (shown below), really surprised me! Note that Best Buy carries a Melissa & Doug version of this parking garage. I too had one of those vintage Fisher Price garages when I was young and played with it incessantly. I hadn’t thought about that toy in many years, but just the mention of it brought back a ton of great memories.

Kids nowadays may not view a parking garage as a tech toy given the options that exist. The prizes in this contest contain many of the best tech toys available in 2016. We have divided the more than $12000 in prizes into 6 toys bundles:

When I was young we were in the old school time zone lol so my tech toy gift was walkie talkies lol me and my brother got them from my dad and we loved them we would spend hours just talking back and forth to one another and playing games like secret undercover agents and army cadets lol reporting for duty sir lol it was so much fun we had the best gift a dad could ever give his children lol 🙂 and this year (2016) the best tech gift at Best buy is Ultimate Drones this is a no brainer drones have taken over 2016 and have shown us what technology can really do and has pushed the limits for all other tech toys coming out before the holiday season starts. Drones take the best pictures and capture everything in real time I got to experience these drones first hand when a Realtor photographer came to take pictures of my house he flew the drone into the air and took the birds eye shots and I can say they came out stunning it really took house photography to a whole other level. These drones are a must have tech toy for anyone boy/girl man or women this year and Best Buy has them OMG!!!! 🙂 🙂 😉

  4. Im almost 60 so there weren’t many tech toys but I remember the one Christmas I got a little well no so little in this day and age but a small transistor radio.

  6. I think the coolest tech toy that I think is awesome and I would love to share with my grandkids is the Sphero SPRK+ Robotic Ball. What a way to make learning fun!

  7. I WOULD LOVE THE ULTIMATE DRONE BECAUSE I LOVE TO TAKE PHOTOS & HOPEFULLY I COULD START TAKING AERIAL PHOTOS WITH A DRONE!

  11. The Parrot Mambo Quadcopter Mini Drone is definitely the coolest tech toy available at Best Buy in 2016. It would be a huge hit with my sons and grandchildren! Many thanks.

  15. The Parking garage is the coolest !! Hours of fun for little ones .. My grandson uses blocks and cardboard to build garages and could spend the day doing so . Great to use hi little cars in !1

  16. Coolest tech toy I received was my miniature pacman arcade. Wish I kept it. Coolest now is hover boards and drones

  18. The availability and price of tech toys were out of reach when I was young. My brothers and I spent most of our days playing outside which was the norm in those days. That being said, my kids love their tech!! I know my son would tell you any of tell you any of the drones on your list would simply make his Christmas ‘the best ever’.

  19. The coolest toy I received as a child was an Easy Bake oven… Haaaaa I’m dating myself .. I thought it was the coolest thing ever and I would bake little cakes for my parents !!!

  21. The OSMO Genius kit looks like a pretty awesome tech toy this year! I think my kids would love learning on that one. Although, my husband would love some of the ‘big kid’ toys like the robotics or drones. Really, any of these toy packages would be a massive hit in our home! We all love our tech!

  22. The coolest tech toy I received when I was a kid was probably a Sega Genesis that my parents bought for all of us three kids. They certainly got their money’s worth for that thing! We spent many, many free hours on it! (We played outside a LOT, but when the weather wasn’t cooperating, or it was dark, we were on that Genesis!)

  26. The coolest tech toy that I know my kids would love is the virtual reality googles. They have been seeing commercials for these and are amazed at them.

  39. In my opinion the Electric hoverboard is the coolest tech toy available at bestbuy right now. The coolest tech toy I got was a discman for Christmas

  43. My fave tech Christmas present was a fisher price pxl video camera that recorded on cassette tapes. Got my first taste of video editing with this toy/tool! Wish I could find it still!

  44. My coolest toy was a huge Lego Pirate ship, which was lost piece by piece by my brother over the years. But I still love him 🙂

  46. I’ll admit that the typhoon 4K would be amazing to get some fabulous videos for my schools “month in review videos” and to keep tabs on family vacations!

  48. The coolest one was the BB8 and it’s controller. It blew my mind when I saw how it moves like the real one! Fantastic toy.
