Great toys hold a special place in our hearts. They create great experiences at the time we play with them. They also leave a treasured memory that we can look back on and smile as we get older. The coolest toys do something a little extra. Really cool toys unite a generation, and sometimes multiple generations. Many of the hottest toys these days are tech toys: robots, drones etc. Which tech toy of 2016 do you think will make the biggest impression in a child’s life, or in your life? bb8Every year new toys are released that have the potential to become a child’s special treasure. Best Buy carries many of these. Best Buy also has the greatest selection of tech toys. Last year I fell in love with the Sphero BB-8 App-enabled  Droid. It’s the kind of toy that will resonate in a person’s memories for decades.

(Four of the new special edition version of this droid are included in this contest’s prizes!)

 

You may find it difficult to decide what the coolest toy is this year. It’s not always easy to predict what will be the best toy in a given year, but really there are no wrong answers. For example, I asked my wife which tech toy she remembers as having been really cool when she was young and her answer, the Fisher Price parking garage (shown below), really surprised me! Note that Best Buy carries a Melissa & Doug version of this parking garage. I too had one of those vintage Fisher Price garages when I was young and played with it incessantly. I hadn’t thought about that toy in many years, but just the mention of it brought back a ton of great memories.

Kids nowadays may not view a parking garage as a tech toy given the options that exist. The prizes in this contest contain many of the best tech toys available in 2016. We have divided the more than $12000 in prizes into 6 toys bundles:

  6. My coolest tech toy that I got growing up is a toss up between my original Nintendo and my electric keyboard.

  7. The best toy of 2016 I think is the remote controlled things, I just love seeing how much cooler they are thrn when i was little.

  11. I think the coolest toy this year is the BB-8 with the force band. Although my husband would have to say any drone is cool.

    But growing up I remember my brother got an electric race car set. We had so much fun, even though the cars didn’t stay on the track very long. 😉

  13. We didn’t have tech toys when I was young. The closest thing was the manual typewriter I received one year for christmas.

  14. The coolest tech toy I got as a kid was the original Nintendo stystem. I wish I saved it and all my games. Memory’s of blowing in the game and console to stop it from freezing

  17. The coolest toy I got when i was a kid was the Rocot that came with my NES.. my siblings were to young to actually play NES with so he was the perfect companion player other than my dad

  18. The coolest toy this year has to be the BB-8 hands down. Coolest droid since R2. It’s like a real life video game for kids and I would even love one myself

  20. The app enabled Star Wars droid! (I wasn’t aware hey we’re app enabled, just seen them & thought WOW, that’s pretty cool what they can make now Adays haha). And coolest tech toy as a kid… I remember getting the ‘Beyoncé phone’, it was double sided, one side was for music, other for the phone lol! Other than that as a pre-teen, we didn’t receive electronics/games… which I find hard to balance since I feel kids don’t need them but clearly we have to raise them to understand these things if it’s the way if our/their future!

  24. The coolest toy I (the family) got as a kid was a Commodore 64 with Frogger and hooked it up to the wood cased floor model TV!

    When I was young I don’t remember getting many tech toys but my all time favorite toy was a stuffed bear in named ginger

  34. The coolest tec toy I received as a kid was the Pac man arcade game that fits in your lap. Best ever! This year’s best buy coolest tec toy would be a romote control car , its top on my 8 yr old sons list

  37. I have five kids. My kids would be thrilled with any of the tech toys I couldn’t get. My boys would love a drone or video games. My daughter well she needs her own tablet.

  41. I was just shopping today and I can honestly say that the BB8 droid and the Sphero 2.0 are the best tech toy right now. That is what my son wants for Christmas. When I was a kid the best tech toy would have been the Atari. I remembering getting it and thinking how cool it was..

  43. Back when I was a kid the highest techy type toy I ever got was a race car set where I had little cars that would go on the figure 8 track and they were a blast back then I mean geez colored TV’s had just came out but alas the race tracks usually have a life span of about one week.
    Has the technology world ever grown since I was a kid and I am so glad I have lived to go through it!

  44. I was just shopping today and I can say that the BB8 droid and the Sphero 2.0 are very cool. That’s what my son wants for Christmas. The best tech toy when I was skid would probably be my Atari… I remember getting it and thinking it was the coolest thing ever..

  46. Well I have to say I think the best toy out there is the Ultimate Drones they have made. You can do so much with them like just flying them isn’t enough but hooking up a camera wow what a blast!
