Great toys hold a special place in our hearts. They create great experiences at the time we play with them. They also leave a treasured memory that we can look back on and smile as we get older. The coolest toys do something a little extra. Really cool toys unite a generation, and sometimes multiple generations. Many of the hottest toys these days are tech toys: robots, drones etc. Which tech toy of 2016 do you think will make the biggest impression in a child’s life, or in your life? Just tell us what you think the coolest toy of 2016 is and you might win a huge trove of the newest toys from Best Buy.

bb8Every year new toys are released that have the potential to become a child’s special treasure. Best Buy carries many of these. Best Buy also has the greatest selection of tech toys. Last year I fell in love with the Sphero BB-8 App-enabled  Droid. It’s the kind of toy that will resonate in a person’s memories for decades.

You may find it difficult to decide what the coolest toy is this year. It’s not always easy to predict what will be the best toy in a given year, but really there are no wrong answers. For example, I asked my wife which tech toy she remembers as having been really cool when she was young and her answer, the Fisher Price parking garage (shown below), really surprised me! Note that Best Buy carries a Melissa & Doug version of this parking garage. I too had one of those vintage Fisher Price garages when I was young and played with it incessantly. I hadn’t thought about that toy in many years, but just the mention of it brought back a ton of great memories.

Kids nowadays may not view a parking garage as a tech toy given the options that exist. The prizes in this contest contain many of the best tech toys available in 2016. We have divided the more than $12000 in prizes into 6 toys bundles:

  1. The coolest tech toy when i was younger was the PSP ( play station portable) because you could take in anywhere and you could game. Very intelligent!!

  4. The most amazing technology toy that I’ve receive as a child was a game boy! And in 2016 I must say it would be a drones!

  8. The coolest toy tech in my opinion is THE WOWEE Coder MIP. Its one of the greatest ideas ive ever seen and I Hope i could have it!!!

  22. My favourite tech toy as a child was my Sega Genesis gaming system. I think my favourites tech toy for 2016 at Bestbuy would have to be one of the 4k Drones.

  23. The coolest toy I got was a walkman tape player with the fram over ear headphones. The coolest tech toy now has to be the parrot drone.

  24. I think the coolest toy in your new line-up has got to be the hoverboard. I know it’s not a true hoverboard from the Back to the Future movies, but it’s close! ha ha ha. Some day they will invent a true hoverboard – wouldn’t that make Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) just hop right on board! LOL

    The coolest toy I got – now we’re talking early 70’s here….was my very first tape recorder. Yes it used a cassette tape. The first thing I taped was a song off the radio. I literally place the tape recorder beside the radio and recorded the song. Hey – we were still seeing 8-track tapes around at that point so having a cassette recorder was all the rage! LOL

  29. Coolest toy received as a child. Game boy, especially with the racing games that could be connected with up to 4 players.

  35. The coolest thing this year has got to be those awesome drones with the built in wifi cameras. My son is begging for one for Xmas and says that’s ALL he wants other than powerskating lessons.

  37. I’m gonna say the coolest thing I got was a tape deck/cd player with a copy of Aqua on the A track. I was about 10 and thought it was the coolest thing in the world. Lol

  39. When I was young I got a Walkman that had an auto reverse button so you didn’t have to flip the cassette manually. That blew my mind! Until I dropped it and the button would play the same side only backwards.

  40. The sphero BB8 looks totally sweet. Especially
    with the wrist controller that makes it like using the force and actually controlling it like in the movie.

  42. The best tech toy I received was a microscope, but each time my eyelashes got in the way of the viewer I thought a spider was crawling up the eye piece to get me! Freaked me out every time!
