Great toys hold a special place in our hearts. They create great experiences at the time we play with them. They also leave a treasured memory that we can look back on and smile as we get older. The coolest toys do something a little extra. Really cool toys unite a generation, and sometimes multiple generations. Many of the hottest toys these days are tech toys: robots, drones etc. Which tech toy of 2016 do you think will make the biggest impression in a child’s life, or in your life? Just tell us what you think the coolest toy of 2016 is and you might win a huge trove of the newest toys from Best Buy.

There are over $12000 in toys available to be won!

bb8Every year new toys are released that have the potential to become a child’s special treasure. Best Buy carries many of these. Best Buy also has the greatest selection of tech toys. Last year I fell in love with the Sphero BB-8 App-enabled  Droid. It’s the kind of toy that will resonate in a person’s memories for decades.

(Four of the new special edition version of this droid are included in this contest’s prizes!)

You may find it difficult to decide what the coolest toy is this year. It’s not always easy to predict what will be the best toy in a given year, but really there are no wrong answers. For example, I asked my wife which tech toy she remembers as having been really cool when she was young and her answer, the Fisher Price parking garage (shown below), really surprised me! Note that Best Buy carries a Melissa & Doug version of this parking garage. I too had one of those vintage Fisher Price garages when I was young and played with it incessantly. I hadn’t thought about that toy in many years, but just the mention of it brought back a ton of great memories.

Kids nowadays may not view a parking garage as a tech toy given the options that exist. The prizes in this contest contain many of the best tech toys available in 2016. We have divided the more than $12000 in prizes into 6 toys bundles:

  1. My other choice for best toy would have to be the new drones. I’m 55 yrs old and would even like one. Merry Christmas & thanks

  2. I will always say that Lego is one of the best toys out there. Always has been, it let’s your child use their imagination to build anything they want. It also teaches smaller children too. And the very best part is – Lego doesn’t need batteries. Lego would always be my choice. Thanks

  3. I remember beeing jealous when my parents bought Home Pong to my grand father, that was the hotest thing a kid (and many adult) could ask for back in 1975!

  4. I really like the Sonos play one speaker, for playing my music.

A tech toy from when I was a kid, lol, was a portable record player instead of the big console one, guess I just dated myself.

  5. The coolest toys i ever recieved when i was a kid was the cooking stuff but the drone would be an awesome 2016 tech toy ever !

  6. When I was a kid, the only tech toys were lego and constructor sets – neither of which I got. Boys got presents like that back in those days. I liked playing with them when I went visiting though.

  7. The coolest toys everyone seem to be wanting (kids and adults) are drones with camera.

The coolest toys I ever gotten when I was kids was an atari.

  8. Tough Choice between the Osmo Coding Set and the Yuneec Typhoon Q500 4K Quadcopter Drone with Camera. I’ll have to pick the Drone because I’ve wanted one for a long time and being able to film long aerial shots would be amazing.

  9. The coolest tech toy I had was my portable tape player (wow ageing myself much) I carried that thing everywhere for years and even taught myself basic sight words by following along in the books before I went to kindergarten (I actually still have some of the tapes and books though the player is long gone).
My son (10) can’t choose between his remote control items as each has its own thing that makes it better than the others (though personally I think the zoomer dino and hovercraft are winning – just based on the amount of play time)

  10. We have the robosapian and have loved it, I think the coder MIP would be amazing to play with. My son (10) thinks the electric scooter would be awesome (his words), he can’t tell me why this would be better than a push scooter because I just don’t understand how awesome it is lol.

  11. The DJI Mavic Pro Quadcopter Drone is my favorite tech toy, the coolest tech toy I hot when I was younger was a remote control helicopter

  12. Coolest tech toy of 2016- BB8 droid
Coolest tech toy ( of 1980’s ) that I received was a Nintendo Game and watch- Donkey Kong!

  13. The coolest tech toy when I was growing up would have to be Nintendo! Took a whole lot of allowance money to buy that!!

  14. The coolest tech toy of 2016 is the razor power core e90 electric scooter!! Looks like a ton of fun to ride and would definitely make the neighbourhood kids jealous

  15. Both of my daughters absolutely LOVE dogs so I think the WowWee CHiP Robotic Dog is definitely the best toy of 2016! They would go crazy for it and I would love watching them interact with it.

  16. I remember there was to not to much technology back then but now your older and the grandparents here of these wonderful amazing toys. And trust me the kids tell you what they want but your not sure . So this year I started looking into coding toys for them and just play even outside toys . There the rage and I agree that mousetrap games and anything to park a truck or car in is still on the list. I loved the game masterpiece.Moms and dads just don’t have effort money to afford alot of toys so they really need to get it right when money’s tight! . Buy that extra toy for good will. And for tags use books to tell the child with a note inside how much that book means to you when you were growing up it doesn’t have to be new and it’s fun.

  17. The coolest tech toy I received as a child was my Speak & Spell. I was totally amazed by it & then I saw ET. I honestly thought that one day I would be able to contact space with it!

  18. The coolest toy is definitely the BB8 Droid. My son is a huge Star Wars fan & has been asking for this toy non-stop. He is constantly reading & learning about Star Wars!
