Great toys hold a special place in our hearts. They create great experiences at the time we play with them. They also leave a treasured memory that we can look back on and smile as we get older. The coolest toys do something a little extra. Really cool toys unite a generation, and sometimes multiple generations. Many of the hottest toys these days are tech toys: robots, drones etc. Which tech toy of 2016 do you think will make the biggest impression in a child’s life, or in your life? Just tell us what you think the coolest toy of 2016 is and you might win a huge trove of the newest toys from Best Buy.

There are over $12000 in toys available to be won!

bb8Every year new toys are released that have the potential to become a child’s special treasure. Best Buy carries many of these. Best Buy also has the greatest selection of tech toys. Last year I fell in love with the Sphero BB-8 App-enabled  Droid. It’s the kind of toy that will resonate in a person’s memories for decades.

(Four of the new special edition version of this droid are included in this contest’s prizes!)

You may find it difficult to decide what the coolest toy is this year. It’s not always easy to predict what will be the best toy in a given year, but really there are no wrong answers. For example, I asked my wife which tech toy she remembers as having been really cool when she was young and her answer, the Fisher Price parking garage (shown below), really surprised me! Note that Best Buy carries a Melissa & Doug version of this parking garage. I too had one of those vintage Fisher Price garages when I was young and played with it incessantly. I hadn’t thought about that toy in many years, but just the mention of it brought back a ton of great memories.

Kids nowadays may not view a parking garage as a tech toy given the options that exist. The prizes in this contest contain many of the best tech toys available in 2016. We have divided the more than $12000 in prizes into 6 toys bundles:

  4. We tried the spherical BB-8 the other day at west van bb. It was awesome racing it between the rows and spinning around. Can’t wait to give the kids it and watch them…. Major brag right with this toy for Xmas! Lol

  5. The best I ever received was our first ever NES. Coolest thing in the world playing duck hunt wuth the gun that never seemed to actually be on target.

Coolest new thing. Gotta be the NES Classic. Both the kids and the wife are salivating…..

  6. One of the coolest technology toys I received when I was 5 years old. Was the original Nintendo console. I was just amazed when playing it. Having to keep it on to not loose your turn and have to start all over again if it was turned off. Nothing like the classics!

  7. I didn’t get any real tech toys when I was kid.i had a nano pet which a friend gave me after it was not cool anymore.

  8. i think the best tech toy is the Yuneec Typhoon Q500 4K. Wow, it has a 4K camera that records 4K video at 30fps, Full HD video up to 120fps for slow motion playback, and 12MP still images.

  9. I would say the Osmo Genius Kit and the coding addition for the iPad is the best tech toy for 2016 that is available at Best Buy. My sons school is moving forward to have the STEM program. My son has tried it at the store and he loved it. It makes learning fun! Hopefully we will one day afford to purchase this toy.

  11. Best tech toy I ever received as a child was a circuit maker. You could make up electronic circuits to run lights, sounds fans and more. Using real wires and resisters among other electrical material.

  12. For 2016 I believe the best tech toys available for boys 9 and up is the mecca of meccadroids. Although on the costly side, they leave a door to imagination open. From building the instructed bots to designing their own is awesome. Add the ability to program the creations makes for great engineering and computer use. Absolutely love this toy idea.
For younger boys I like the hex bugs collection of build able weapons and contraptions. Both toys leave a world of design open 🙂

  13. I didn’t have a lot of tech toys growing up, but I think my favourite was our Nintendo. Nothing beats good old Mario 🙂

  14. The coolest tech toy would have to BB-8 Droid + Force Band. My 6 year old daughter loves star wars (she already has a light saber lol). I think she would have lots of fun with BB-8

  15. Coding toys all the way! My son is 8 and has been playing some on line coding games. If I/he was to get the coding MIP that would be awesome.
