Great toys hold a special place in our hearts. They create great experiences at the time we play with them. They also leave a treasured memory that we can look back on and smile as we get older. The coolest toys do something a little extra. Really cool toys unite a generation, and sometimes multiple generations. Many of the hottest toys these days are tech toys: robots, drones etc. Which tech toy of 2016 do you think will make the biggest impression in a child’s life, or in your life? bb8Every year new toys are released that have the potential to become a child’s special treasure. Best Buy carries many of these. Best Buy also has the greatest selection of tech toys. Last year I fell in love with the Sphero BB-8 App-enabled  Droid. It’s the kind of toy that will resonate in a person’s memories for decades.

You may find it difficult to decide what the coolest toy is this year. It’s not always easy to predict what will be the best toy in a given year, but really there are no wrong answers. For example, I asked my wife which tech toy she remembers as having been really cool when she was young and her answer, the Fisher Price parking garage (shown below), really surprised me! Note that Best Buy carries a Melissa & Doug version of this parking garage. I too had one of those vintage Fisher Price garages when I was young and played with it incessantly. I hadn’t thought about that toy in many years, but just the mention of it brought back a ton of great memories.

Kids nowadays may not view a parking garage as a tech toy given the options that exist. The prizes in this contest contain many of the best tech toys available in 2016. We have divided the more than $12000 in prizes into 6 toys bundles:

  4. The drones and robotic toys look awesome especially the Sphero BB-8 App-Enabled Droid with Star Wars Force Band, there are many people in my life who would love it!

  5. Withoit a doubt, the best tech toy I received when I was younger was Playskool Maximus! (similar to Major Morgan) It was a handheld device with cards that you inserted in order to ‘play’ the various games. I remember spending HOURS playing that thing but I never realised that I was actually learning the entire time. The ‘games’ were teaching everything from shapes and colours, to spelling and math. It really was such a cool little piece of tech for the time (80’s).

  8. I absolutely LOVE the Osmo Genius Kit! There are quite a few Apps out there that teach kids coding but Osmo makes it a hands-on experience which is such a great way to get kids interested and keep them interested. With the world we live in becoming more and more technology based, this is definitely something that is at the forefront of our minds as parents and Osmo will definitely be making its way into our home once our youngest children (10 months and due in March 2017) are old enough to understand how to use it. Mind you, I can see our eldest (almost 12 years old) getting quite into it too!

  10. I loved my Meccano set to build all kinds of things as a child and I think the Meccano Meccanoid 2.0 Personal Robot building set would make a great impression on children 10 years and older.

  12. I think the Fisher-Price Think & Learn Code-A-Pillar would make a big impression as an educational toy for a child 3-8 years old.

  16. The coolest toy I received as a child was my lego castle. Still have it and now my kids enjoy playing with it. I doubt that many of the tech toys mebtioned in the article will last as long and will quickly be outdated unfortunately. Still fun to play with tho!

  20. The coolest tech toys available are the Drones. How far technology has come is amazing. I know my boys would absolutely love one! Lets face it so would I!!!

  21. The more fun things today are definitely robotic toys, it’s amazing what a kid can do with anything robotic. The coolest toy I ever had was an original Nintendo system. Things have really changed since I was a kid.

  34. The coolest tech toy I received as a kid would have been a ferbie, we’ve certainly come a long way since then.

  35. The coolest tech toy this season is the fisher price code-appillars the paw patrol zoomer dogs. My kids would loves these.

  37. The coolest toy is a remote controlled devices like drones, they are the best. The best toy I received was a sphere.

  39. I think the coolest toy of 2016 is the Razor Power Core E90 Electric Scooter, I would have loved zipping down the streets of my small town on this as a kid!

  41. the best tech toy I got when I was younger was a Shockwave disc man. was the best invention from sliced bread. until now with mp3’s

  42. there are a lot of cool tech toys out this year. the drones are getting pretty cool, affordable and easier to fly.

  44. Coolest toy is the Wowwee coder MIP. My daughter loves to code and I love to encourage it!! Coolest tech toy I got as a kid was Nintendo. Played the crap outta that thing lol

  46. The coolest tech toy when I was a kid was the original Nintendo Entertainment System with duck hunt! Best tech toy of 2016 Best Buy is osmo genius kit! I need one for my kids or two!

  48. I loved the year I got my easy bake oven, but the best was my nes Nintendo, and now look everyone is going nuts over the new mini one.
