I’m of the opinion that no one should truly 100% grow-up. I really think people ought to occasionally partake in youthful frivolities, like having candy for breakfast and jumping in mud puddles—and playing with toys and games. That keeps magic weaving its way through our lives, adding a spring to our steps and a sparkle to our eyes. Luckily, Best Buy has a huge selection of toys and games for everyone, so whether you’re one or 100 you can relive a bit of that childhood magic. What’s more, we’re running our annual toy contest! Read on and learn about the magical selection of toys at Best Buy, then enter the contest for a chance to win some for your family. Imagine the magic that your whole family will experience with a fantastic bundle of toys delivered to your home!

Sphero, Anki, and Oculus make learning magical

There is a huge range of STEM and robotics toys available these days, and the best part is, they’re so much fun to use that kids will enjoy learning.

Sphero Bolt robot ball STEM toy
Sphero Bolt makes coding fun to learn

Sphero creates toys like the BOLT robotic ball to teach kids coding through a block-based visual language. Using the Sphero Edu app, you can control the Bolt’s movement and speed, as well as the colour and brightness of the built-in LED lights. Light sensors, infrared sensors, and a magnetic compass provide it with data, so it can be programmed it to change direction if it meets an obstacle.

The Anki Cozmo and Vector robots are home assistants with personality. These diminutive robots are curious, interactive, and capable of learning. Designed with both an IQ and EQ, these robots are smart and endearing. They will become a part of your family as they help you out with weather reports and answering search queries, or play games like Quick Tap and Keep Away.

As a child, I used to dream of travelling to another universe. With virtual reality, that dream comes pretty darn close to true. Using 3D graphics and amazing optics, the Oculus Go headset can transport you to other dimensions. Oculus Go gives you access to over 1,000 virtual reality games, social apps, and 360-degree experiences. Always wanted to visit the moon or walk among dinosaurs? How about stepping into the pages of a comic? Or have you’ve always dreamed of fighting super villains. All of this is possible with the magic of Oculus virtual reality.

Zoom into adventure with ride on toys and race tracks

Ride on toy car
Power Wheels Jeep Wrangler

Maybe you were always a bit of thrill seeker, well, we have toys for that too. Best Buy has a huge selection of ride on cars that are sure to delight any little driver. Choose from authentic scale replicas of vehicles like Jeeps, BMWs, and Maseratis from brands like Best, Kool Karz, and Powerwheels. This sweet rides are each decked out with details like a horn, lights, and music. Most ride on toys are equipped with parental controls too, so you can rest easy as your child zooms about. And perhaps the best thing about ride on toys is they get your kids outside, away for tablets and TVs, enjoying the fresh air.

If you want to keep your racing indoors, Anki also makes the Overdrive, an intelligent battle racing system. Build your track and race solo, AI, or against friends as you control you car through the app. As you race you can unlock weapons and upgrades, and customize your car, plus the app is always being updated, so gameplay is always fresh. That’s the beauty of tech toys; the magic keeps evolving.

For the younger race car enthusiasts, there are Carrera GO!!! racing systems. Kids can race zoom around tracks with themes like Nintendo Mario Kart and Ferrari, both of which are prizes in this contest.

LEGO, Fingerlings, Dollhouses allow us to tap into our imaginations

LEGO, who doesn’t love it? You can recreate iconic scenes from your favourite films or build something truly one-of-a-kind that only you would dream up. Race in the Indy 500 with the LEGO Technic Rally car, casts spells in Hogwarts Great Hall, or explore a galaxy far far away in the Millenium Falcon. There are so many LEGO sets available I’ll leave it to you to find which LEGO set is the most magical to you.

WowWee Fingerlings Hugs
Fingerlings Hugs make a cute companion for kids

Interactive toys, especially those that look like cuddly little creatures, bring the cartoon animal sidekick to life. (My personal favourites were Fizzgig from Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal and Pegasus from Disney’s Hercules). On of the hottest toys this year are the Fingerlings Hugs by WowWee. These lovable, interactive critters can say and do over 40 things, and have extra long arms for hugging and hanging around. Hatchimals too, offer children a chance to have their own animal companion. Children can hatch a mystery animal and nurture it as it learns and grows.

Just as children love caring for animals, so too do they love creating stories and imitating grown ups. Pretend play is an important element in a child’s development and toys like dollhouses and activity tables and playsets are wonderful ways for children to tap into their imaginations

Best Buy has the best selection of toys

As you can see from the above, Best Buy’s toy selection is impressive. Also impressive is Best Buy’s toy contest. Every year at this time we give away thousands of dollars worth of toys.

  1. I’d love this Melissa & Doug Chef’s Wooden Modern Play Kitchen – Cupcake for my great grand daughter… it reminds me when my mum taught kindergarten in our basement years n years ago and the little ones would play house and had a kitchen set like this pretending to make dinner…sure takes me back. I could tell my grandie how her gramma used to have this for her kiddo’s to play with and teach her about her gramma she never met. She’d have so much fun and we could play together and learn.

  2. I have three boys under 7 and Am a single mom, my boys would really love the power wheels jeep, Anki Cosmo Robot, bolt robotic ball – these coding systems have been out of my budget reach. Thanks for letting me try to bring some magic and learning into their lives.

  3. I’d love to get together with my nephews and build the Lego Saturn 5 kit (LEGO Ideas: NASA Apollo Saturn V – 1969 Pieces 21309)! We’re all huge space geeks!

  4. The Power Wheels Jeep Wrangler would be the perfect set of wheels for my nephew until he’s ready to graduate to the real thing!

  5. My son would LOVE a Cozmo Robot. He’s super into science and computers, and he’s learning how to code and build his own electronics. We’re trying to encourage his love of robotics into more than a hobby when he’s older.

  6. I would really like to have a DJI Mavic 2 Pro Quadcopter Drone, because we live out in the boonies, and I would love to be able to see all the wildlife there is hidden in the bushes. I would be able to enjoy being able to see them without scaring the heck out of them! 🙂

  7. My Grand daughter would love Best Ride On Cars Maserati Ghibli – White – Online Only
Model #: Maserati Ghibli Wht Web Code: 12550925 or any ride on car/truck for that matter but she’s also into playing with board and card games and sometimes puzzles too. She’s 6 years old and pretty easy to please. She doesn’t ask for much (she’s usually looking out for others rather than herself, pretty rare for a 6 year old) so it would give me great pleasure to be able to win her a little something. 🙂 Thank you for the opportunity to try and do so. 🙂

  8. My son has already picked out the Anki Vector Robot. He is such a techie kid and has already said that he would give up all other gifts just to have this one. Unfortunately the cost makes us gun shy.

  9. The toy that I think my children would love the most is the Wonder Workshop Dash Interactive Robot Toy. My daughter is in a coding class at school, and they get to play with Dot and Dash often. She’s always wanted her own Dash to bring home with her, to share and teach her younger brothers about coding. It would definitely be a toy that would get my children to finally play nice together, while learning at the same time.

  10. My son would love the LEGO Jurassic World: Indoraptor Rampage at Lockwood Estate. He loves Jurassic World and I loved Jurassic Park growing up, so this would be awesome to build together.

  11. My Grandson would love the Jurassic Park Jeep ride on toy of course lol he loves to ride his little cars p, it would bring such fun for him

  12. My grandson would love the LEGO Ghostbusters: Firehouse Headquarters as him and I put Legos together and both enjoy it, and we both like Ghostbusters.

  13. The Polar Express Train would be ana big! My ten year old son & I love the film & trains, so this would be wonderful to share. Thanks

  14. I think my kids would love the Power Wheels Jurassic Park Jeep Ride On Toy. They love dinosaurs and my oldest loved watching Jurassic Park with us for the first time. The movies bring back so many memories fro me and I still find myself watching them over and over again.

  15. Any Hatchimals for my little girls , they are so pricey and those girls really want one since 2 years , this would be really magical !!!

  16. the Microgear EC10288 Microgear Radio Controlled RC Co-Axial 4 Channels LAMA V6 Silver Helicopter RTF – Silver would be a good starter kit for the grandkids, to see if they like it or not.

  17. Thank you so much for this contest! We have a brand new grand-daughter who will be 2 months and 1 week old on Christmas. I would get her the Baby Einstein Neighborhood Activity Jumper because I can see her, in just a few months from now, enjoying herself with this

  18. My grandson would love the Celestron SkyProdigy 130 x 650mm Newtonian Reflector Telescope and if I do say so myself I think it would be pretty cool to try out!

  19. The Lego Ghostbusters Firehouse because my daughter loves both versions of the movie and loves to build things, and so do I!

  20. My girls would love the LOL Surprise Pearl Surprise! They spend hours playing with their LOLs as it is I’m sure they’d appreciate some new exclusives! Thanks!!

  21. I would have to say the Anki Vector Robot. It’s a cute little assistant that will hopefully encourage my daughter to ask some robotics-based questions. I would like to get her involved in more STEM related interests. Great first step! The fun factor should disguise the utility of the robot. 😉

  22. The LEGO Ghostbusters: Firehouse Headquarters would be a great gift for my grandson. We watched the old ghostbusters movie together and loved it.

  23. Of course, any one who knows me, knows I would pick the Fingerlings Hugs by WowWee as a gift for myself and oh okay, my nephew too. Love all things pink and huggable. Merry Christmas!

  24. I would love to get the LiteHawk MAX 4WD 1/12 Scale RC 4×4 Rock Racer and the Traxxas Stampede 2WD 1/10 Scale RC Truck for each of my grandsons. They are at the age where they love trucks and are now old enough to enjoy power toys. And I know that grandpa will have fun teaching them to use the controls.

  25. I would enjoy playing with Zoomer Playful Pup with my Grandsons. One of my Grandson’s Daddy is a Veterinarian. The train sets also look like a lot of fun and Lego has always been a favourite of me and my 5 grown children.

  26. So many amazing toys to choose from but I think my two boys would love to have the LiteHawk MAX 4WD 1/12 Scale RC 4×4 Rock Racer. We could take it outside when we are walking trails as a family or camping and they would have so much fun taking turns driving it.

  27. Anki Vector robot all the way! My kids would love to play with an in home assistant, interesting to see what it and they can come up with!

  28. I have to say it was very hard choosing just one amazing learning activity. Our class consists of 6 amazing elementary students ranging from gr. 2 to 7. The challenge we have is them being able to play a group game together and all understanding what the game is all about. You see, most of our students are non verbal autistic downsyndrome children who require different communication tools to guide them during the day. Well I think this game called Learning Crocodile Hop is #eLER9544 is a game that requires no verbal language to play. Roll the dice and see what shape or colour you have to find. It promotes,,, team play,,, colour and shape…. physical activity and encourages laughter.. and so for all these reasons…I SEE THIS GAME SPREADING MAGIC IN THE CLASSROOM TO EVERY STUDENT WHO WANTS TO PLAY. THANK YOU BEST BUY..

    • Meccano Meccanoid 2.0 Personal Robot. My son is 12 and thinks he’s too old for toys but this might be just the thing to reel him back into playtime.

  29. My little one would absolutely love a Power Wheels Jeep Wrangler! He has been begging me to go back to the car dealership because he loves pretending to drive. This kind of gift would make his christmas!
