Best Buy has toys that create memories today for nostalgia tomorrow. Because toys are more than just playthings; they are sources of endless fun for all ages, and for adults they are bridges to the past. From the moment we grasp our first teddy bear as a child to the many times we nostalgically look back at our favourite childhood playthings, toys are integral to life. Explore some of the newest toys at Best Buy today, that will build memories to last a lifetime, then enter to win one of twelve fantastic toy bundles.

Toys create memories: the foundation of who we are

From the moment we’re born, toys become a part of our world. They are companions, teachers, and sources of comfort. As children, we assign personalities to our toys, embark on imaginary adventures with them, and even confide our deepest secrets to our plush friends.

For me, the stories I created while playing with cars and figurines established a love of storytelling and a love of writing. Remember the toy car that sparked your interest in automobiles? Or the doll that was your inseparable friend during those long summer days? These toys are not just objects; they are the building blocks of our childhood memories. They remind us of simpler times, filled with wonder, curiosity, and unbridled joy. The memories they created helped shape what we can do, what we know about the world—helped shape the adults we have become.

Toy nostalgia is a bridge to bygone days

There is one great scene in the second Tim Allan Santa Clause movie where a boring staff Christmas party is transformed into a fantastic, memorable night for all (in the film and in the theatre watching the film) thanks to a sackful of nostalgic toys like Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots. There is no denying that toys can transport us back to our childhood, evoking a flood of emotions and memories. The scent of an old teddy bear, the familiar tune of a musical toy, or the worn-out pages of a childhood book can stir feelings of nostalgia. You’ll need to draw on some of those memories as you enter this contest.

The new toys that we are giving away in this contest will do for our children what toys did for us. They’ll help them learn about things, help them learn to socialize, etc. Many years from now, the toys you find at Best Buy today will evoke moments of nostalgia for our children. Here are the brands that provided toys for this year’s holiday toy contest. Learn about them, and click on the brand to see some of the best toys and games that 2023 has to offer.

  1. The Play-Doh Kitchen Creations Rising Cake Oven Bakery Playset brings back memories of all the items that I molded with plasticine.

  2. I have a much younger little brother who would love to have something like the VTech watch because he loves trying new games and does sometimes want a device to play on, it’s hard to give young kids something child-friendly, but the watch looks like it might cure his device want! I would love something like this for him and honestly anything from here would be wonderful since I am a college student and I don’t get a lot of money left to spend on personal items or gifts. Good luck everyone and thank you for the opportunity!

  3. I was transported back to my childhood when I checked out the Nerf Elite 2.0 Flipshots Flip-8 Blaster. It reminds me of the fun I had with my Nerf shooter. Mine was very primitive compared to today’s blasters.

  4. I loved playing with my dolls and playing all the board games, especially Monopoly. The Monopoly: L.O.L. Surprise! Edition brings back great memories all rolled into one game. My niece just loves her L.O.L dolls and I know that she would be thrilled with this themed Monopoly game.

  5. The Baby Alive Baby Gotta Bounce Doll brings back memories of a similar doll I used to have, except the one I used to have could be filled with warm water so it felt more real to hold. I believe it was also a a baby alive doll.

  6. The new toy at Best Buy, the VTech Marble Rush Ultimate set, instantly reminds me of the classic sets from my youth. It’s a delightful blend of nostalgia and new-age excitement, creating cherished memories spanning generations.

  8. I loved playing the Hungry Hungry Hippos Board Game growing up. It was for all the marbles and they were flying everywhere.

  9. The Hasbro Hey Furby Action Figure reminds me of my old Furby I had growing up in the 90s. This one looks much new and improved with a lot more to say. I also collected the Furby toys that were in the McDonald’s Happy Meals. I would love to gift my nephew a new and improved Furby this year

  10. Toy Shock Barbie Large Kitchen Set with Accessories has it all! I remember having a homemade play kitchen constructed out of cardboard. I had some old pots and plastic veggies and I would pretend to make dinners. It was a lot of fun.

  11. Hasbro’s Clue Board game is always a favourite. I’ve been playing Clue since I was a child, and I still play it

  12. The Toy Shock Barbie Large Kitchen Set with Accessories reminds me of my Little Tikes play kitchen. I remember “making” and serving this 3 layer cake to all of my family. Putting it together was like a puzzle and made me feel excited and proud I could put it all together.

  13. Hasbro’s Clue Board game is always a favourite. I’ve been playing Clue since I was a child, and I still play it with my nieces & nephews

  16. Hasbro Monopoly Mandalorian S2 – English, Multicolor. Growing up playing the original game with family and friends and remembering the good times, they’ve continued to evolve this classic game with different varieties of options.

  17. I can recall the day when I received my first two wheeler bike. I had finally graduated from the three wheeler and now could join my friends in the big boy club. The Droyd Weeler Electric Kids Mini Bike will instill memories for the recipient of this awesome bike.

  18. Toy Shock Barbie Kitchen Set reminds me of my Barbie dolls I had when I was younger. I remember meeting with my friends and dressing the Barbie dolls and spending time together.

  19. The Monopoly Family Board Game from Hasbro. Monopoly is a family favourite to play. I love the newer versions to keep up with the current world we live in.

  20. Hasbro Scrabble gave the family hours of fun and we (the kids) learned some spelling too! I don’t think they could improve on the original. We also played Trivial Pursuit original and baby boomer editions that were lots of fun.

  21. Clue: Dexter Edition Board Game – English reminds me of Clue Board Gamer which is something we used to play when I was younger. I always managed to win which now suspect is very suspicious and less my intellectual prowess.

  22. My dad made me a homemade Karaoke with an old mic, speaker and projector to shine the lyrics on my bedroom wall. This state of art VTech Kidi Super Star Karaoke Machine with Light Show brings back cool memories.

  27. The Hasbro Battleship is fun game of strategy. It reminds me of all the rainy and snowy days we played the game.

  28. The Monopoly Family Board Game from Hasbro reminds me of the Monopoly game I used to play with my siblings. It was a hand me down and so old, we had to make some of the cards by hand and use it.

  29. The new Droyd at Best Buy reminds me of the mini bike my dad had built for me as a kid. My dad passed away soon after my oldest child was born so, unfortunately he was not around to build something like this for his grandkids. It was gas powered so, probably not quite as safe as a Droyd. But, it was fun. I think this would be comparable so my kids can have great times like I did as a kid riding my homemade mini bike. Thank you for the opportunity.

  30. That’s wonderful to hear. Hasbro is one of the largest toy makers in the world, with a history dating back to 1923. They have produced many popular games and toys, such as Monopoly, Transformers, Nerf, My Little Pony, and more. I’m glad you still enjoy playing with them with your little ones.

  33. i wish i had the dryod 200w electric dirtbike as a kid. it would have been so much fun (and so many trips to the er with my daredevil attitude) the one that brings back the most memories is the simple game of risk. many hours spent with my granddad and dad playing this game at sunday supper and hopefully some day i will pass on the tradition to my 3 yo son

  34. The Toy Shock Barbie Large Kitchen Set with Accessories reminds me of the Little Tikes play kitchen. I have a great memories of making and serving plastic meals in that kitchen!

  35. The 3D Doodler reminds me of a mix between the Lite-Brite and Spirograph I played with as a child. Of course, the 3D Doodler is much more advanced but the premise of kids using their imagination to create unique things is still there. I always preferred to make my own Lite-Brite images/patterns instead of using the paper patterns that were included.

  36. Hasbro’s Scrabble. I’ve played that game since I was a kid. It was one of the ways that I learned how to love words. My partner and I play it regularly still. It’s good to see that it’s still being produced and hopefully still teaching kids how to spell and to love words. We love Scattergories too but we don’t have it… yet.
