At the end of a busy day, true relaxation can be hard to come by. There’s just so much going on it can be hard to switch off, and I know I tend to fall asleep with a crash while reading on my phone instead of relaxing and getting comfortable prior to.
That’s why I was so interested in testing out the HoMedics SoundSpa Slumber Scents and the HoMedics Massage Pro Percussion Cordless Massage. One can ease sore muscles, the other can send you off to sleep with relaxing aromatherapy and relaxing sounds.
What is the HoMedics SoundSpa Slumber Scents machine?
The HoMedics SoundSpa Slumber Scents is an ultrasonic aroma alarm clock diffuser. While that’s quite the label, it’s actually a very simple device to use. Just plug it in and you have an alarm clock, aromatherapy diffuser, and sleep machine, all in one. It also has Bluetooth so it doubles as a speaker you can stream your music to, and you can plug-in via USB.
Using the HoMedics SoundSpa Slumber Scents
I love white noise. I literally cannot sleep with out it, and I always have a fan running in my bedroom so I can block outside noise. The HoMedics SoundSpa Slumber Scents is a great white noise machine, but when you add the aromatherapy component to it, it just works on so many different levels.
Testing the HoMedics SoundSpa Slumber Scents White Noise
There are six white noise sounds built into the HoMedics SoundSpa Slumber Scents: thunder, campfire, zen, ocean, babbling brook, and fan. They play loud enough to block sound, but not so loud they are annoying. I’m partial to fan sounds, but I found myself drawn to the thunder and campfire. The crackle of the campfire is really comforting when trying to sleep.
Using the HoMedics SoundSpa Slumber Scents Aromatherapy
Included with every HoMedics SoundSpa Slumber Scents is a small tester kit of aromatherapy oils. You can choose between lavender and orange, and they are designed to invigorate you or help you relax.
To use aromatherapy you just pop the top off the machine, add water to the fill line, and add a few drops of aromatherapy to the water. Hit the Aroma button and you’ll see the water inside begin to bubble. To make it even more relaxing you can turn on the light and it will light up the water. It rolls through different colours and, along with the water bubbling and emitting a mist, is so relaxing. It’s also bright enough to use a child’s night light if you’d like to.
You can schedule your aromatherapy and use it for 30, 60, or 90 minutes. You can also just turn it on and let it run because it has an auto-off timer. I found four or five drops of lavender was more than enough to fill the area with scent. Even if you don’t want to add the aromatherapy to the water, you can just use the mist to add humidity to the room.
Other features on the HoMedics SoundSpa Slumber Scents
Beyond the amazing sleep machine and aromatherapy mist, the HoMedics SoundSpa Slumber Scents is also an alarm clock and speaker. You can set the alarm to wake you up, or you can set it to begin diffusing scent before you wake up. It’s nice to have more options for waking up than just a loud blast of noise.
What is the HoMedics Massage Pro Percussion Cordless Massager?
Along with the HoMedics SoundSpa Slumber Scents, I got to try out the HoMedics Massage Pro Percussion Cordless Massager. I like to run three or four times per week, and when I do long distance, I often use handheld massagers to try to work the pain out of my calves after. They don’t always work for me, so I was interested in testing out the HoMedics version.
This is a cordless massager, so you just have to charge it up and you don’t have to be tethered to a wall outlet. It takes about 3 1/2 hours to reach a full charge, and while I used it quite a bit, I didn’t drain the battery while I had it. With periodic use it can last several hours before you need to charge it again.
Using the HoMedics Massage Pro Percussion Cordless Massager
There are 5 different speeds and 3 interchangeable massage heads: smooth, ridged, and multi-node. There’s also a front grip so you can hold it steady on your shoulders.
Using a device like this is pretty straight forward. You apply massage to your sore muscles, and it vibrates steadily to loosen up that area. The cordless option is nice because you can take it in the car with you when you’re stuck in traffic, or sit on the couch watching TV while you work out the kinks in your neck.
The massage heads fit on easily, and because they are made from rubber they feel durable. I thought the multi-node head was the best option for deep tissue massage.
The massage is quite strong. Depending on the speed I had it set at, it almost jumps around when it’s working. I found that a few minutes on my sore calf muscles was more than enough to get them to loosen up, and it’s great for shoulders that are tense after sitting on the computer all day.
Overall thoughts on HoMedics Health products
Both HoMedics devices work exactly the way they are supposed to, and both are designed to relax and de-stress you. While the HoMedics Sound Spa Slumber Scents will lull you to sleep or help you relax after a stressful day, the HoMedics Cordless Massager will loosen those tight muscles and ensure you’re not so tense that you can’t sleep.
On their own they work great and I’d use them every day, but put together they make an impressive relaxation system that I’d recommend anyone would try. They are both totally portable too, and you can even find different types of essential oils to help you concentrate or wake you up or take the cordless massager along in the car to help you de-stress in traffic.
You’ll be able to find both the HoMedics SoundSpa Slumber Scents and the HoMedics Massage Pro Percussion Cordless Massager soon on Best Buy.
