After the glitz and gluttony of the holidays, a new year is an opportunity to set things straight and get back into a healthy routine. If you’re looking to improve yourself, there’s no better time to set goals and enhance your life than now. Keeping your new year resolutions, however, can sometimes be easier said than done. The secret to success is making your goals attainable rather than trying to achieve a target that you’ll abandon. Telling yourself you’re going to hit the gym 6 times a week when you’ve spent the last 6 months actively avoiding the area all together isn’t always the right solution. It’s all about having practical ambitions, and from there you can continue to grow.

Luckily for us all, we can now bring fitness right into the comfort of our homes , and Bestbuy.ca has everything you need for your at-home fitness haven. During these cold winter months working out at home can especially get the ball rolling and keep you active for the rest of your year by working out at home.

Smart TVs make streaming a home workout simple

A smart TV has many benefits, whether it’s used to laze around and watch Netflix on all day or to get militant with an intense, sweaty workout, you can use your smart TV to enjoy your new year however you like. But since we’re setting health goals, why not do both the lazing and the sweating? Earn your Netflix binge time by completing a grueling workout before you veg out. If you’re just starting out with your fitness goals and don’t have much equipment, have no fear, you can still achieve your goals.

A smart TV can get Youtube videos streaming into your living room in no time. You don’t need anything other than Smart TV and a body. Just move the coffee table over, lay down your mat and get your fitness on with the guidance of internet fitness buffs. The options are plentiful, but some examples of super easy-to-use Smart TV’s are those made by LG, Samsung, and Sharp.

A couple of my personal favourite Youtube fitness gurus are BeFit and Blogalaties. Both pages have a variety of helpful interactive videos that target specific areas while promoting overall vitality. The best part? You can stream Youtube videos whenever you want to. The beauty of working out at home to a streaming service is that you can create a schedule for yourself that doesn’t rely on when your local Spin classes operate, or what time the gym opens and closes. It’s all in your hands, literally at your fingertips—just pick, press play, and go.

Enhance your existing home gym with simple but exciting devices

You’ve heard this story before, you may have even lived it. You get an elliptical machine, or a treadmill or perhaps a stationary bike. The future looks bright; this will be your new life now. Alas, you use it four times and you start to get bored, each time you stray further away. The machine sits in your garage, basement, or a college student’s bedroom- abandoned and working out at home seems like a lost cause. It happens all the time, and the truth is that it’s not always fun or enticing to get your heart rate up when you’re looking straight into a blank wall in silence.

Enhancing your home gym doesn’t mean you need to get tens of thousands of dollars of gym equipment to make it feel like a Planet Fitness. It’s all about customizing your at-home experience to make it more enjoyable and suitable to your workouts. Something as simple as a pair of Beats by Dre accompanied by your favourite playlist can get you motivated to get moving, and from there you can expand.

Visuals always help, and a simple HD television can bring some colour into your life while you sweat out all your Christmas sins. You can either synch up your television and your headphones, or get the best of both worlds. My personal favourite combo is watching Game of Thrones while listening to Tupac, but everyone is different.

Make your home gym a workout sanctuary

Bigger is always better, and if a simple TV just isn’t cutting it, an HD Projector can make that former blank wall really come alive with your favourite shows or inspirational videos. A projector can make a formerly boring room lively and exciting, and it’s the perfect device to watch music videos or shows on while working out, all you need is an HDMI cord and access to your favourite streaming sites.

Plus, you can easily you can move it anywhere in your house that has a blank wall. So if you’re really trying to become well-rounded this year, hop off the treadmill, find an open space and get on the yoga mat to stream your favourite Yoga Youtube channel

Levelling up never ends, not in your workouts, and not when elevating your at-home workout experience. You can continue amping up your home “gym” with a sound system to get your adrenaline pumping. There’s nothing quite like pumping it up to your favourite electrifying tunes on a speaker system that makes you feel the sound, not just hear it. A system like the Polk Audio 400 Watt sound bar system with a wireless subwoofer can make all your Eye of The Tiger dreams come true and it’s easy to set up and move around.

Use Google Home to keep you motivated

Voice Control devices like Google Home can do much more than just tell you the weather, they can also help you whoop your butt into shape. No, not in the robot-overlord sense, but by simply giving you reminders and keeping your schedule aligned so you stick to your routine. A simple prompt to stretch, or do a 15 minute workout in the morning can change the trajectory of the rest of your day. We may not always want to admit it, but sometimes our robot friends do help keep us accountable.

Working out at home can change your life thanks to technology

Home workouts have taken a whole new meaning in the last few years, especially as the fitness industry grows and more workouts become streamable. You don’t have to go out in the darkness of the morning, or brave the freezing winds, so you have no reason to not achieve your goals this year! No more excuses, especially because all you need to do is roll out of bed and get moving. Getting fit has never been easier.
