Have you heard about Intel’s new powerful processors that came out this year? Take some time to familiarize yourself with some of the details during Intel gamer days. That’s right, Intel gamer days are here again with great savings on Intel powered laptops and desktop computers that’ll make everything you do go more smoothly: school, work, and especially gaming! Learn some facts about Intel’s new processors, then enter for a chance to win an amazing Intel powered laptop.
Which Intel processor will you choose
Shopping for a laptop isn’t easy for most of us. Part of the problem is that Best Buy has an incredibly large selection. A good first step is to read the Laptop buying guide and narrow down your choices a little. You can also narrow it down by deciding what kind of processor you want: on the Best Buy laptops page you will see a set of facets on the left hand side of the page for processor type. If you want one of the new Intel processors, then you would select one with “Intel” at the beginning. After that, you’ll want to choose the processor that matches your needs and budget. Here is a short primer that should help:
- i5 vs i7 vs i9: this is the first main differentiator for Intel processors where a higher number means better performance and usually a higher price too. If you are doing basic computing tasks (for work or school) and play simple games then an i5 may be perfect for your needs and will likely save you some money. If you want a laptop capable of playing complex games, processing large video files, or other demanding tasks then pay a little extra for a machine with a higher numbered processor.
- 11th gen vs 12th gen: as with most technologies, newer will be faster and more versatile. This is especially true for Intel processors released this year. We discussed the 11th generation processors in last year’s Intel gamer days article. They are still amazing processors, capable of handling the most complex tasks and demanding games very well. This year Intel released a major leap in processor design with the 12th gen processor as we discussed in an article last spring. Read that article and you’ll understand why “11 is good, but 12 is a lot better.” Again, if you want to save money, then last year’s model will be excellent for your needs. If you want maximum flexibility and performance then you’ll be leaning toward the newest models.
- H vs K vs HK: Intel model numbers have a suffix and two of the most important ones for fast laptops are H and K. H means the processor is optimized for high performance in laptops. Most of the fastest laptops have this suffix. The other suffix, K, is especially useful for very serious gamers or computing enthusiasts who want to push their machines to their absolute limits. The K means the processor is unlocked, and can be configured to go beyond the fastest specifications set by the manufacturer: the term for this is overclocking. People who desire an extra edge in gaming, or want to process very demanding computing task will often turn to a K processor.
What questions do you have about Intel processors
Those three points above will likely help most computer buyers but I know they won’t answer all of your questions. Intel actually has a quite a range of processors and it can be confusing. One of the things I hope you get out of Intel gamers days is a little more knowledge that will help you make a more informed decision on your next laptop purchase. Win a laptop during Intel Gamer Days Contest Rules and Regulations
Good Luck
H = high speed learn something new every day ✔️
I just learned that they have the H and K suffix and what they mean.
I learned about H and K
I learned what all the letters stand for on the processor
I learned that “K” means that the CPU is unlocked.
I learned what “H” and “K” stand for, and that Best Buy doesn’t currently carry the Gigabyte Aero 16.
I learned H represents high speed
I learned that the higher the number of processor the better performance will be
I learned what letters H and K mean in relation to processors
I learned that he higher the numbered processor means better performance.
Are all computers still upgradeable?
I wished. Unfortunately not all parts are upgradable to the latest and greatest. For example, if you have 11th gen Intel CPU, I found out that it cannot be upgraded to 12th gen because the 12th gen uses the new LGA 1700 socket while 10th and 11th Gen Intel CPU uses LGA 1200 socket .
I learned that Intel flagship Core i9-12900HK is the fastest mobile chip ever and I want it more than ever in my laptop if I can ever afford one
I learned how the newer intel processor enhances gaming performance.
Leaned what the letter suffix means!
For a basic gamer, who is kind of trying to transition from console gaming to PC gaming, what kind of model would be best to start with? The H, K or HK? I would like something that is on the cheaper end, but wouldn’t leave me at a disadvantage against other gamers.
newer processor
Cooling systems are important.
I now know what the letters at the end of the model numbers mean:) Thanks!
I learned that the 11th gen vs 12th gen: will be faster and more versatile than previous generations. My question is, if I get the previous generation due to budget restraints will I still have a powerful enough machine to handle the sophisticated graphics of todays games. I don’t want to be slowed down by a slower processor and would rather wait and save for the more expensive model.
How can I get the wattage number (TDP) from the model number?
Heat is the enemy of electronics reliability, especially in laptops that have limited options for cooling. More performance generally means more power, which means more heat. How is Intel managing to reduce heat from its, high-performance processors?
One useful thing I learned in this article was the “H” suffix for intel laptop cpu’s. At first I thought it was meant for overclocking but now I know it is meant for optimized for high performance in laptops!
Why are intel i levels always i3, i5, i7, and i9 and not the other numbers?
Newer processor , faster.
About the H, K, and HK suffix since I haven’t kept up with newer gens knowing they can come optimized or be overclocked.
What the differences are between the H and K notations on the new processors. Good to know.
I learned about decoding the chip name by their generation, sku, and suffix.
i have a question as a gamer myself, is it possible to enjoy the benefits of the the intel proccessor and all the stuff thats “under the hood” so to speak even if you dont understand all the product features that make the featured laptops which are all known to be amazing gaming machines? its like asking can you enjoy your brand new car even without understanding whats under the hood and how machenics work. i would love to win any one of these amazing machines myself becuase i had to give up gaming when my machine didnt have the power to play newer games. remember “half life, and mods, frontline force, counter strike, etc games by Steam. i still remember gamers tag names from back then and have had a few of them tattooed on me becuase they have passsed and because “Its More Than Just A Game!” w0000h00000 flank em watch your 6 go go .
I just learned what h and k is and how the newer processors are faster
I learned what the H stands for I had already known about K from looking into desktop PC components.
I learned about the suffix letters.. Never knew about that. The HK model indicators are really useful to know.. I had no idea!
What kind of power consumption can we expect from i5 to 7 or 11thgen to 12th?
do the reboot characters live in every processor? or was it just one specific special one?
and also- why wasn’t hexadecimal more beautiful?
ig-1000kirk
What can I do if my processor is overheating?
How do you know it is overheating? Make sure fan on CPU is still rotating. If not try using compressed air to clean up the dust built up or replace the CPU fan
I posted with #BbyIntelgamerdaysContest on Twitter. My channel is @FabioMarangon12, with “Feb” as nickname.
J’ai appris que i5 est bon, mais pour de meilleures performances et une meilleure vitesse, i7 et i9 sont meilleurs.

What I want to ask is: is there any tutorial by official Intel platforms that teach us how to safely overclock our CPU? I know there are a lot of them around the web, but since it is described as a potentially dangerous practice I would like to refer to reliable sources.
Higher proccessor needed for gaming
I learned so much about processors that I never knew about before. Intel model numbers have a suffix and two of the most important ones for fast laptops are H and K. H means the processor is optimized for high performance in laptops. The K means the processor is unlocked. My next gaming laptop will have a HK Intel Processor!!!!!!
How are intel processors different the new Apple processors?
Learned the higher the numbered processor, the better performance. Usually just that of the version.
What’s the most important aspect when shopping around for a gamer? My kids are but I am not and do not know what to look for.
I first saw the suffix H and K described here. The speed of going beyond is incredible.
I learned i5 is good but for better performance and speed i7 and i9 are better. Good to know for us gamers.
That’s generally the case, that higher numbers are better. However, it’s better to look up benchmark comparisons for the CPUs themselves before deciding on one. For example, Intel were still making I7 CPUs two years ago and they still are today aswell. And so an I5 CPU from today will in general be better than an I7 from a few years ago just because chips get more efficient as new tech is implemented.
That being said, it’s better to use the model number as a frame of reference (like the 8700k) which also increase as new products are released, as opposed to i5 or i7.
The difference between H and K notations on the new processors. Good to know!!!
I learned the difference between 11th and 12th generations as it pertains to performance and speed of the processor.
To me H and K were just letters of the alphabet. Now I know what they really means to an Intel processor.
I learned the H means high speed
I learned that Intel model numbers have a suffix and two of the most important ones for fast laptops are H and K… And that my old laptop is in need of an upgrade!
