Living Lux: comfort is a worthwhile pursuit

0
You know how they say opposites attract? I’d say that’s definitely the case with me and my husband. He grew up Roman Catholic and has a real chip on his shoulder when it comes to doing things the easy way. He believes a dollar saved is a dollar earned (read: he’s frugal), it’s better to skimp on heat and air conditioning when possible and discomfort is not necessarily a bad thing. I disagree wholeheartedly! I like comfort. Is it so wrong to crave a good Downton Abbey binge-watching session on the lap top in 300 thread count sheets?  I think not. In fact, I think as busy moms, surrounding ourselves in comfort is a worthwhile pursuit.

Get Your Sweat On

I love fitness. Please don’t stop reading! I’m not bragging. I’m just setting you up for the heartbreak and disappointment I felt when I had kids and realized there were zero minutes left in the day to work out. You may have come to the same conclusion. So what’s a mom to do? Get creative … fast.

Your Anti-Anxiety Travelling List

I get nervous when we go away. It’s not the idea of having our house robbed or the thought of not having a good time … it’s the packing.

Don’t put yourself last on your list

If you’re like 99.9% of mothers, when you are under the weather you suck it up buttercup and get stuff done! I’m working hard on joining the 0.01% of moms who actually stop and take a time out. I think it makes us better people to put our own names higher up on our list of things to do. In working towards that goal, I have some suggestions.

How to get out of the house (kind of) fast

0
How fast do you get out of the house when you have kids? We all know 45 minutes spent at the front door without ever crossing the threshold is not unheard of. I make a habit of getting everything ready hours before we actually have to be anywhere.  It is a feat of incredible magic and coordination to get out the door without screaming your head off, breaking a sweat or a nail or both. Here are a few suggestions that may help.

You’re about to have a baby! Now what?

Let’s rewind to winter 2008. Me, my beach ball belly and my husband step into a big box baby store full of dreams of tiny yellow onesies. What greets us is aisle upon aisle of plastic, primary-coloured product. Strollers, diapers, breast pumps, soothers, a billion bottles and toys. Within 10 minutes I am drenched in tears, completely overwhelmed and feeling wholly inadequate as a shopper and a soon-to-be mom. Was it the hormones? Of course! But it was also the reality of having way too many options and just not knowing what was needed and what wasn’t. Use my breakdown to your advantage.

Fender Stratocaster American Standard Review

0
Here’s the American Standard Stratocaster electric guitar by Fender. This beauty had the privilege of spending some time in my studio for a little routine check. And what a ride it was! For some rock chords, blues riffs, funky rhythms and lots of modern jazz, this Strat is a versatile, high-end guitar. The American Standard I personally tried is equipped with three single coil pickups, features a black body finish with a classic white pickguard. The sexy curves of this solid body (it has contours that fit the musician’s arms) makes this guitar a gem of modern electric instrument manufacturing. The Stratocaster model, with its two asymmetrical horns continues to be the most imitated guitar body amongst all lesser brands of electric guitars. Thousands of timeless albums feature the tones of this american musical giant. Hendrix, Clapton, Stevie (and many more) used the Strat as their main instrument. We shouldn’t take this lightly!

The good people of iHealth have done the impossible. They’re basically technology magicians, but, you know, without the sparkly shirts. No, this company won’t make the statue of liberty vanish, but maybe your waistline—which is all the more impressive. Intrigued? You should be!!
