As part of E3 2021, Square Enix held an all digital event called Square Enix Presents Summer Showcase. This 40 minute presentation was filled with surprises and gameplay footage at upcoming video games. Here are highlights from today’s showcase!

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

Eidos-Montréal and Square Enix kicked off today’s event with the unveiling of their brand new game, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. The dev team at Eidos-Montréal team are working closely with Marvel Entertainment to provide an original and authentic experience. In this unique spin on the Guardians of the Galaxy, players go on a  journey across the galaxy as Peter Quill as the Guardians unintentionally become the galaxy’s first and last line of defense.

In the game, gamers will need to master Star-Lord’s dynamic combat style and call on the unique abilities of each Guardian. And, as self-proclaimed leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy, you’ll engage in player-choice driven dialogue and interactions between Quill and the Guardians. A Guardians of the Galaxy game wouldn’t be complete without a killer soundtrack and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy doesn’t disappoint. Eidos-Montréal and Square Enix promise that the game will be jam-packed with classic 1980s hits and original tracks.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC and GeForce NOW on October 26, 2021.

A closer look at Life is Strange: True Colors

Next, we got a closer look at the next entry in the Life is Strange series, Life is Strange: True Colors. The presentation gave more insight into the game’s visuals, gameplay, and impact of Alex’s psychic power of Empathy. We got to see how the choices you make and the way you interact with the people of Haven Springs affect the story.

This occurs both through use of Alex’s power during exploration and in story-driven moments with complex decisions, which only using Alex’s power can resolve. The psychic power of Empathy affects every interaction and relationship Alex has in the game. You’ll use it to reveal the secrets of Haven Springs, learn about Alex’s past and the future of her journey to find a place to call home.

Life is Strange: True Colors is coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Stadia on September 10, 2021.

In the game, with parties up to four, you assume the role as a member of a group of warriors known as the sentinels. In addition to weapons wielded in both hands, characters can use the power of their Gideon Coffin to equip two more, allowing for combinations of up to four weapons at once.

The game’s unique visuals are achieved by using a newly developed brushwork style to create a unique fantasy setting with a medieval oil painting aesthetic. Babylon’s Fall is coming to PS5, PS4 and PC. More details to come soon.

  1. Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Nier, Dragon Quest, Marvel’s Avengers, and on. This company never disappoints. The (As)Guardians of the Galaxy will be another hit and I can wait to meet Rocket’s new beard. Gimme, gimme. P.S. The soundtrack better be as good as the MCU entries of they’ll lose a little love from me dang it!

  2. I am glad that the Guardians of the Galaxy game is single-player and that they are attempting to create multi-choice options which will allow some level of control over what the player wants to do and will also offer some replayability to see how the other choice(s) go. It is also really cool that they licensed 80s music to continue the trend of having music like the movies.

I really hope that the dialogue for Final Fantasy origins ends up being way better than what was shown in the trailer. That one guy said “Chaos” like 27 times, to the point where I think it is going to become a meme.

  3. I’ve heard Final Fantasy Origins described as Final Fantasy meets Dark Souls. If that’s the case, my expert advice is to buy stock in Phoenix Downs immediately!

  4. Wasn’t expecting to hear about a Guardians of the Galaxy game to be honest.

I’m really happy that it’ll be a single-player game… especially with the disappointment that the Avengers game brought :(.

I’m also really looking forward to that new Life is Strange entry into the series. The first one really resonated with me; even though I haven’t played the dlc’s or sequel, I’m glad this franchise continues to get new titles.

  5. Guardians of the Galaxy looks amazing!!! I was also excited to see that Final Fantasy 1-6 Collection, I just hope it eventually makes it to Switch.

I’m also curious to see how Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin turns out!

    Thanks Jon!
