Pokémon Legends

A bold new direction for the Pokémon series

Pokémon Legends: Arceus takes the Pokémon series in a bold new direction by fusing action with RPG elements. The game takes place long before the events of Pokémon Diamond Version and Pokémon Pearl Version in the Sinnoh region. Your journey begins in traditional fashion by letting you pick your first Pokémon partner in either Rowlet, Cyndaquil, or Oshawott.

Your goal is to create and complete the region’s first Pokédex by catching, surveying, and researching the wild Pokémon that live there. To catch wild Pokémon, you’ll have to study their behaviours, sneak up to them and then throw your Poké Ball. Additionally, you can battle wild Pokémon with your ally Pokémon. To provide Trainers with an immersive experience, you’ll seamlessly enter battle by throwing a Poké Ball holding your ally Pokémon near a wild Pokémon.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus launches January 2022

If you’re waiting to get your hands on Pokémon Legends: Arceus, like I am, you’ll be able to do so on January 28, 2022 when it launches on Nintendo Switch. Let me know in the comments section below if you’ll be picking up Pokémon Legends: Arceus and what games you’ll be playing to help pass the time until launch.

  1. Terrific my kids are huge Pokemon fans, I spent a little fortune on games, cards etc as they were growing up and now the grandkids are playing them too. To bad it won’t be available until have Xmas

  2. I like that they are trying something new with this series. Nintendo and the Pokemon Company have largely stuck to the exact same formula for decades, (logically so, considering how popular they are) but it is nice to shake things up, especially after what seemed to be a tipping point with Sword and Shield and the fans of the series.

This change reminds me of what the Yakuza series did with their latest game. It was a brawler for every iteration, then they decided to take it in a new direction by making it a turn-based RPG, and it ended up becoming the most popular game in the franchise, at least in North America.

Hopefully this works out and it encourages Nintendo to add fresher ideas to other games down the line.

  3. Definitely looking more forward to this kind of Pokemon game.

I really like the Action RPG genre – and this new direction makes this game much more accessible.

  4. This is a Pokemon game that I’m really excited to see more of. It feels like it is actually a new idea for the Pokemon franchise.

Thanks Jon, I look forward to seeing what you think of this game as we get closer to the release date.
