Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl
Earlier this year, Nintendo announced that remakes of 2006’s Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl were coming to Nintendo Switch. Until today, we only knew that both games were “coming later this year”. However, that has changed! We now know that we won’t have to wait too much longer. Both Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl launch November 19, 2021 on Switch.
These 2006 Nintendo DS classics are getting a new life on Nintendo Switch that long time and new fans alike will enjoy. The games take place in the Sinnoh region and The Pokémon Company and Nintendo promise that not only will they faithfully recreate the original story but also include new improvements. For example, towns and routes have been reproduced so fans of the original can relive their journey from the Nintendo DS era.
Additionally, there are upgrades to both the graphics and the battle system. The sprite-based worlds from the Nintendo DS are now fully 3D on the Nintendo Switch. Furthermore, “up close and personal” Pokémon battles had been added. Moreover, when you buy Pokémon Brilliant Diamond or Pokémon Shining Pearl you get access to exclusive Pokémon depending on which version of the game you own. Each game has over a dozen exclusive Pokémon with the legendary Dialga (Diamond) and Palkia (Pearl) up for grabs.

It’s funny that these are the first Pokemon games that I didn’t play because I never got a DS and, unfortunately, got a PSP instead and now they’re already getting remade.
I’m interested in how these game are going to scale onto a big tv as opposed to the small handheld DS screen. I think the cities and general areas are more attuned to the smaller screen and I wonder if they will be as visually interesting on a big screen or if they will just seem hyper-simplistic in comparison to Sword and Shield.
I know the original games have a very good reputation with fans of the series and the aforementioned Sword and Shield had some controversy surrounding them, so hopefully these remakes are made and received well!
This is great, my boys favorite growing up and still today. Will give them the heads up on these. I’m sure they will be one of the first to order. Thanks
Great to be able to relive these adventures with new gameplay elements added onto them =)
My only real exposure to the Pokemon in these games has been through Pokemon Go, though I am excited to see what comes of these new remakes.
Thanks Jon, I look forward to seeing more of these games as we get closer to the release date!
